Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that Shadow of the Erdtree uploads are moving back to 1 vid every other day. I did 2 vids every other day up to this point, but now that we’re fairly far into the playthrough I’m reducing it back to my regular rate. Just FYI! By the way, we are probably looking at 17-18 parts total. I stopped at 16 just before what I theorize is the “final stretch” lol - so I’ll be able to do any last minute errands that people suggest. But I’d say I completed something like 90-95% of the content in the game up to that point!
I haven't finished the vid yet so you may figure this out, but try and pressing R2 after using ur ash (L2). Many weapons have a follow up to their ash of war.
"YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME, YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME, I'M TOUCHING GRACE!!!" John was SO real for that lol. The tone shift with the dev messages on the ground being all "It waits inside, don't let it see you, you can't get away, you can't touch it," etc. and then the message that Torrent was too scared to show up was AWESOME. If it was a horror game it'd be like ok, whatever, but this being a game that wants you go rush in and beat stuff up fearlessly made it so scary lmao.
Tbh I was kinda hoping that it was more difficult!! John only died like 3 times lol so I’d say that’s pretty easy for him! I did enjoy the last boss fight though!!! They were sooo elegant in their moves! 🥰
Midra and the divine beast dancing lion were the best boss fights imo. It wasn’t just another big guy in a suit of armor with a sword. It was fresh, different and original.
The buildup to the Abyss was so good, with the atmosphere, and the comments, and the horse being scared. Like a gothic novel with the haunted manor with ghosts, the unexplainable rain. I feel bad about how the Midra fight glitches, but you still won 🎉.
The Abyssal Woods is one of my favorite places because of the atmosphere, but it's sad they didn't do more with it. More items, an outside boss etc would have been great additions I think.
@@bludgeon1081 The biggest disappointment I think are the finger ruins. For such a big and foreboding looking place both are just landfill of nothingness but a place to do an admittedly major side quest.
Yeah I simultaneously loved it and was disappointed by it. Like you said, needed some more items and enemy varieties (enough damn rats already). I get the emptiness is for the atmosphere of isolation but I think they went a bit too overboard especially for a space that huge
@@marcopaolo1643when I first went to them and got to the center I was getting so nervous that some alien monstrosity would rise up from the ground, but no it's just a talisman. One of the eeriest environments they've ever made but also totally wasted
You mentioned in the vid if you get healed from appraising messages. The person who wrote the message gets healed if they're playing the game at the time of the appraisal!
When John says stuff like "seek rump", I'm genuinely amused! I love this stab of horror we're getting from Elden Ring~ This is great and hope they do more of this in the future.
In Rollo's defence... Midra does not appear to be an Omen. I doubt they had classes on Frenzied Flame avatars at Omenkiller school, or wherever they qualify from. ...Now I'm imagining a lecture hall filled with aspiring Omenkillers, all wearing that armour while taking notes. 😂
The "Omen Killers" are Horned Warriors, similar to the Divine Bird Warriors and Divine Beast Warriors, all Hornsent, whose Crucible-aligned features Morgott and Mohg were "cursed" with from birth, Marika didn't like the Hornsent to put it lightly, and saw the "Omen" Twins as a curse on her. Her only perfect son with Godfrey, Godwyn died on the NotBK, the first demigod known publicly to die (Godwyn's soul died at the same time as Ranni's original statuesque red-haired body, splitting the Cursemark of Death in half).
I've been so excited to see you take on Midras! He's probably my favorite elden ring boss design. The way the designers seemed to have made his movements inspired by the movements of a flame (of course) it's just *chefs kiss*. Great job fighting him too!!
John, you know the ‘omen killers’ you’ve been complaining about in the video? They’re hornset warriors - the ‘omen’ of the Shadow Realm. Just thought you should know.
John you can equip any weapon at any time you just won't get the full usefulness out of it if you don't match stats, you can even test out their built in ash of war.
Definitely one of my favorite areas of the DLC! So spooky… if you’re riding Torrent from the initial starting grace, you’re violently knocked off as though Torrent died. Scared the shit out of me. I think the messages are poking fun at the rain, because I don’t thiiiiiiink it’s supposed to have any weather in this area. So it seems to me like those few areas are coded incorrectly? I could totally be wrong tho.
You see people stuck on some of these bosses for several hours because they're doing it "unga bunga 1v1 me smash jump r2 until dead." and then you see someone like John take a few attempts while using all tools available to them and finish a fight in significantly less time. I enjoy this gameplay much more.
if ya haven't gotten to it yet, for the area you're trying to get to at 1:54:07, go to the three-path site of grace and go through the big gate/archway-- once you're through there from what I remember you hug your left and keep going that a way and should find yourself in that area soon enough
Good job on the Midra boss fight and all (the legend CONTINUES with John dying right after the boss does and getting the W anyway 😤), but John you really should've had Gale in your party for this part! It unlocks alternate dialogue with Midra that you would've found really cool I think. Ah well. Maybe you can get it on your next playthrough. SPOILERS BELOW Gale shouts "IT'S BOMBIN TIME" and blows up and you CAN'T talk him out of it, the end 😞
John you've been calling these HORNED WARRIOR Omen killer for like 5 videos now, and no they are not Omen killers. they are completely different enemy they called HORNED WARRIOR.

John don't kill my beloved madness sheep! Only the rams attack and there's very few of them. Imo they overdid it with the dev messages. A couple wouldve sufficed but they put like 20 lol kinda ruined the creepiness factor for me
Also you can use the rememberences to the finger crone for some cool weapons unique to the bosses you kill👍. EDIT: one of the main issues with Mimic Tear is THAT can happen at the end of the fight. Didnt that happen when you fought Margit too?
I killed this guy first try super fast so, I didn't get to experience the extra stuff you and other TH-camrs are going through. I love watching your videos to see what I missed man! If I didn't have my bull*hit build I'm sure I'd be struggling like you but I wanted to have fun and not struggle through what the director himself was hard for being hard's sake because I'm smart and like enjoying games.

I actually have no problem with the bosses in the dlc or the difficulty. My main criticism is that some areas are kinda empty like Abyssal Woods.

Madness is a status effect, rather than a damage type. Its resistance is governed by your Focus stat.
Mimic tear saved you a few hours off this boss. Nice job mimic!
By the way John you are one handing your weapon so you do less dmg.

To dodge the big explosion during phase transition, you sprint away from him then jump before the explosion for maximum distance.
Just a tip. Finish all the quest first before you burn the tree. I heard you get locked out of them if you burn it.
