How is the twisting of the button rod accounted for? When the helical motion is started, there is no torque. But as the button starts to cut, some of the rotary motion between the chuck and button is taken up by twist. Does the linear motion at start account for this? Also, seems like a lot of extra length in that rod. Wouldn't it be better to have as short of a rod as possible?
The Precihole pull broaching / button rifler uses two axis interpolation technology that pulls the rod and rotates it precisely with servo controls. We precisely control the motion of the button within the barrel, both pull and rotation. The button does not cut material, it forms the grooves. There is no metal cutting. The button rod is EXTREMELY hard so it does not twist when pulling the button through the barrel. All the heat generating during the forming process is absorbed by the special oil we recommend for button rifling process. The extra length of the button is to account for various lengths of barrels in that caliber. Usually for popular calibers, there are 7-8 different lengths Ordering a button for each length doesn't make sense.
