  • What's Interesting Wednesday. The Trangie Truck and Tractor Festival.
This video is of the tractor pull competition which consists of the contender being chained to a sled. As the sled is dragged forward the wheels on the back operate a winch that moves a large sliding platform forward. On the platform is placed some large concrete blocks. As the blocks move forward the weight is transferred over the sled and so increasing friction until either the tractor spins wheels or stalls. There is a measurement scale along the side of the sled so an accurate comparison can be made as to how much the tractor can pull - it's not the distance the tractor has travelled. In the early rounds some tractors are able to pull the sled until the platform is all the way forward without the tractor spinning wheels or stalling. In this case extra concrete blocks will be added to the platform in following rounds of competition.
This appears to be a Chamberlain 9G tractor, which I think is about the same vintage as the Chamberlain Countryman 6. If it is, then it has slightly less power than the Super 70 or Countryman 6 and so to have got into the 2nd round is pretty impressive. With its narrow tyres, especially when compared to the competition, it is not surprising that it ends up in wheel spin.
On the weekend 19-20th August 2023 Trangie held its Truck and Tractor Festival. The festival is held every two years so the next one should be in August 2025. With over 200 semi-trailer prime movers on display, plus a bunch of old tractors, the town population more than doubles as attendees travel from far and wide. This is a quintessential quirky country town festival and if you are within cooee it's more than worth the time and effort to get to. We were in Collie, heading to Nyngan, when we stumbled across the flyer, but did a detour down to Trangie the next day. We hope to be able to get to it again in 2025.

What's Interesting Wednesday. I have a bunch of videos of stationary and traction steam engines, old railmotors, modern trains that happen to show up whilst waiting for steam trains, old tractors, and just 'stuff' that interests me and so might interest you. I've therefore decided that Wednesday will be the day reserved for interesting stuff that isn't steam trains.
