People think this is a bug but maybe devs put it there intentionally to see who will discover it and when.
@@berryesseenAs someone who worked in software quality assurance, this wasn't intentional.
Intentional bugs don't break the "spirit" of the game. For example, Nadeo kept bug slides but not Uber bugs or Ramstein (idk how it's spelled) bugs in TM2020.
I think even speed slides are a bug as that's not how physics works, therefore, defies a user's expectations of game mechanics. The results are due to a logical error in the code that isn't "spirit breaking", likely a similar or same code to the bug slide as they're both to do with increasing speed under sharp steering angles relative to and dependant upon your ground-speed
@@zaclaplant3001 there are so many things in the real world that defy the expectations of us humans. But they are still the reality. Quantum physics, black holes, etc. all don’t make any sense. So, I don’t buy your explanation. The game devs could have coded it like that intentionally. After all, the whole game is a design. There are no wrong physics and correct physics.
I don't actually think the camera breaks. I think the game detects the car getting massive speed and does a "cinematic mode" showing the beginning of when the car gets speed and the end, the finish. Though, I could be wrong as this is the only video of this bug I've seen. Need more data points.

Rattlery held the normal way WR on 08 before this was discovered, so he went full gigachad and decided to just adapt and use the bug to retake his WR
Feels like the game saves the state the stadium car is in when it switches, and when you switch back to it while also in the state it is in, it maybe multiplies it, classic trackmania physics.

Probably bug sliding gives you multiplier to side speed and the switch block saves last state of a car probably for the reason like ice tires but you get multiplied side speed when you are going very fast instead of burnoutand boom, you got shot across the map

Could be also some clipping into the block when the switch happens. After all: uber-bug happens when you hit railing and it's the rsulting physics of bouncing from it that get messed up. So maybe the switch to stadium car puts part of your hitbox slightly into the ground and game tries to calculate your movement as if you hit the surface?
Hey, another one of my maps! Thanks for playing Wirtual! It's a shame, since it's my most rushed map, but it's fun nonetheless! I found some properties that setup the bug fairly consistently, even for a PFBX map.
It turns out the bug doesn't appear to activate if the rally car is in anyother gear than first gear, but once it's initalised, it doesn't matter how fast you are afterwards.
In my map, using the Editor Route plugin, for a fraction of a second, my car was moving faster than the speed of light, 1.4 billion kmh. I've never seen this in the game before, even with an uber, so I think something really weird is going on there. And the replay bugged when I was trying to make my video on it, so it's got this goofy ass looking end camera!
I would assume, the burn out state is saved on the car between the car swap points - this then also makes the game think that that specific car is at the gate position rather than continuously moving forwards. When switching back, the game realises that the car suddenly moved a large distance and in turn applies the appropriate speed.
This could potentially be tested by having multiple such setups at varying lengths (though I don't have Trackmania installed atm, so someone else has to test it).
Or you could just install it and do it yourself
i think its a problem of hitbox mix. i made a longer comment on tekkys video to explain my idea if u wanna check out what i mean
i think you could actually be right , cause playing my map (the first one of the video) you can see there is a checkpoint right on the rally car switch portal , and sometimes after beating the map when crossing the checkpoint it would say -700 speed for some reason

Nadeo should have known that car switching in the middle of a run could cause issues. And this doesn't even seem difficult to pull off, so it's much more OP than regular uber bug.
"Luckily" it's seems a bit more situational. Or at least that was my reaction until someone posted a new WR with an official map. Absolutely do not envy the Devs

This kind of emergent gameplay is exactly what I love about speedrunning and videogames in general, no matter how well a developer might try to limit what players can do, they will always find ways to exploit mechanics and oversights to either gain an advantage or just show off something cool.

@@user-bt8xr5si9y because it really just trashes world records from people spending 100+ hours on perfecting it, without having to be skilled or something ... you just need lucky rng and that kinda destroys it for me. its not like a uber bug or bug slide that is difficult to pull off, its just rng based

You literally cannot control an uber in any way at all, you just have to get lucky.
So how exactly is this more RNG based than a uber?
Also now that this bug is known maps created from now on can work with that knowledge to prevent this. It has also happened countless times throughout Trackmanias history that bugs or cuts have significantly reduced WR times so how is this any different than it has been the 27 times before?
@@user-bt8xr5si9y a uber is something not anybody can do - while this new bug leads to the point where a brand new player could hop in and just press the drift button to perform that bug and beat the world record. thats just dumb.
Will point out that this bug is in a variety of games with switching mechanics and object inputs. I just can’t explain what the leaderboards are going to do about it.
If it can affect normal maps, I assume it will be patched out. At some point you have to put your foot down and say "This is a racing game, but the players do everything they can to avoid driving the car and we have to limit it somewhere"

the normal uberbug works because when you grass slide at high speeds you are really just getting little "ticks" in the direction you are facing, it is not a fluid movement, when you collide with a wall during the time these "ticks" occur, and the game increases your speed, my guess is that the same "ticks" happen at low speed, and the wall in this case is the stadium car gate, at least this is my theory

This is so crazy that I randomly clicked on a video a while back of someone who did this and it happened to be Tekky's video. I was stunned and thought his video was awesome. To see it later on Wirtual's channel makes me feel like I am missing a ton from the amazing TM community.

@wirtual i dont know if you read comments, but on the first grassmap in the campaign, the number 3 or 4 record also does something inexplicable, and then also doesnt bugslide if i remember correctly. He drives over the penaltygrass in the beginning too, maybe theres something there too. Greetings from sao tome en principe
If I had to guess why, by holding the keys at the first gate, something about that car's physics is being stored away that probably shouldn't be, and actively applied as you keep driving, resulting in some scaled up crazy force vector that gets applied once you swap back, notice how the car literally flip out and the wheels are immediately off the ground. The speed you suddenly get is likely the solution the game comes up with after resolving that first portion, you should try transforming mid-air to see if it gets any weirder than that. Also does the distance you get thrown, change based on how far you drive before transforming back?
Seems like assuming it's due to the drift state, if the Devs choose to fix it, they will most likely only need to check if the car model is changed, then if that's true, then reset the burnout and potentially add a small delay just in case.

I think it's because the wheels change position when switching car which in drift is interpreted as a dramatic change in speed. The devs accounted for it for one car switch but not two.
I hope this doesn't get patched, but instead maps would be created with this in mind.
From what it looks like tho, this seems too much of a gamebreaking bug to not be patched. I mean, you can basically do this bug on any map that has 2 car switch gates and they all probably have a strat.
I’m certain it will, unlike a Uber bug which is super specific on where it can be used and where it can bring you, this bug feels way to versatile and easy to pull off to be left in the game.
They have already said they will patch it. So better play it now before its too late!
i think this bug might be caused by the game adding the acceleration over and over to the stadium car but you are in the rally car and when you go through second gate it applies all the acceleration at once but i am not sure
I think what happens is when you do a burnout in the switch the car is just building up speed because it is trying to go forward and when you switch back to the stadium car it give all the speed at once sending you flying

1:28: 800km/h is approx mach .8, that in 0.001s gives us an accelleration of 222km/s2, equivalent to approx. 22k gs, so the driver of that car should be soup by the finish.
At 4:10 i calculated over 27k gs
The Kacky possibilities with the Uberswap, just imagine a map when u have to connect Uberswap into a regular Uber into the finish

I have a feeling the reason this happens is because you're in the burnout state and once you swap back through the other gate it gives you max grip which sends you flying due to the technical speed you're going at? But that's just a guess from someone who can barely drive straight on 2020 (after seeing the second map I'm not sure what's going on anymore lmao

I figured it would just swap the models/physics of the car back to default every time you changed vehicle types. But I guess it's actually saving your car state and reverting back at each swap? I have no idea why it would work like that.
maybe its the hitbox change making the game think the car is in the road. so the game forces the car out of the block and if done correctly u get a boost. and with the uberbug inputs u somehow force the car in the block aswell. if u then countersteer the force may be misscalculated by the game?
There's a fun map called flippy whippy that uses this bug but requires insane speed in the right direction. Give it a shot!

I've been doing this for a while and you can easily tell if you got it id the car makes a weird sound consistently. Your wheels are stuck in burnout mode and once released you have an uberbug effect. It's pretty much same concept.
do we know if it also works for ring switches?
Make this flick the last floor on deep dip 2. Just like how on the first one you had to get enough speed riding around the top floor before sending it.
Seeing the rally car like trailer or whatever you call it where the cars are all steering sharply and leaning makes me wish they had made two wheeling advantageous for the rally car so you had to do that for ever corner

So is there someone in Nadeo who found this bug, told no one, and decided to set up 08 of the season as a seemingly non 08 map. But in reality it was all planned so that players would use this bug ????
No WAY this totally controllable and overseeable mechaninc of switching between three car models and physics mid-run would've caused a technical error :D
Looks like someone forgot to reset the stadium car properties in the code when the switch happens. Then when you switch back they compound and yeet you with insane speed. Wild honestly.

If you go frame by frame with the period and comma keys at 2:08, you can see that just before you hit the ramp, you are at 988 speed. At 1:15 with frame by frame, you hit 991 speed just before you hit the ramp. You can definitely hit max speed with this. At 3:26 with frame by frame, this is most likely a visual bug as a result of this bug, the speedometer shows you going 6501 speed.
I don't think it is a visual bug, but something really weird happening. Using the editor route plugin, in the editor, on Switchbugging, the maximum speed was 1.4 billion, which isn't a typical value in this game.

Havent played a trackmania in ages but i have maybe an idea why the bug is happening .. you switch while drifting through the gate ... the game remembers this location and saves it you switch back in another gate game knows now that you was drifting at a totaly different place a moment ago and bug magic happens ... or i could be totaly wrong =D

would it make sence that the game is seeing your car on place, but the next frame with the same car it is in another place, there for you must be sliding?
Is this position miscalculation, like being in a drift while changing car locks a position data but when you go back to stadium car is basically teleport the car from the previous rally gate and give you max speed

I'd assume that when you do this, the car thinks you effectively drifted/bugslid the distance between the two switch gates, giving you the entirety of the acceleration of that distance in an instant.
