only ever got involved in a bit of weather struck years ago which is pretty straight forward ,remember my dad who did a lot in the 50/s round the east end had the "frenchman" an old kitchen knife ha ha , but i suppose most of the the old pointing tools back then for more intricate pointing were all home made out of necessity
Hello. I'm practicing some tuck pointing at home. You mentioned you had done some pointing around curves. What do you use to give you a straight edge round curves, it's easy for the straight run but not so obvious for curves? I've bought a flexible ruler to try but will see.
Any mature lime putty from a lime supplier mixed with silver sand, unfortunately i cant give you the ratios but if you experiment a bit you wil find the one that works.
I’m not far from the Red Mason I was thinking of going on a coarse he offers but how often do you do tuck pointing , every 15 years won’t cut it ...shame that’s how skills don’t get passed on . 🍷 enjoy
The Bellota handles look good Andy . The Bellota broad heel and Philadelphia trowels are excellent . th-cam.com/video/jWA0JDWe-QU/w-d-xo.html don’t know if you’ve seen that video but the trowel he calls a copy and not the genuine article is in fact a Bellota one piece forged trowel you can see the acorn stamp on the trowel .

My mate Mick's Uncle was a bricklayer in the 50s and they used to put 6inch nails on the railway track so the train would turn them into line pins
you can get them in france, similar to travis perkins out there
Thanks for the information.. I did buy a tuck iron and frenchman from speedex, cost enough haha will definitely give your mate a go 👍
What did you think of the frenchman? Ive heard people say the Speedex ones aren't that good.
