Correct. The reason why Curry, Young, and Lillard are able to hit from 35+ with consistency is that, in addition to having great release mechanics, they transfer power from their legs through their fingertips very quickly. As you pointed out, the forward motion of their release starts at their face or lower to transfer the power forward more efficiently.
The video isn’t wrong but what you said is wrong. Curry is known for not using his legs to produce power for his shot and is all in his arm. Steph has the most unconditional shooting form in history as it breaks all the basics shooting mechanics we were taught in school. He’s just different, an anomaly
Steph doesn’t jump high enough on his shots as most of his power comes from his arms. This was said in an older video talking about his jumpshot. It’s the reason he can shoot deep threes without jumping too high. Steph produced his upper body strength when he got to davidson and then the league so he didn’t have to rely on his legs. Unlike russ, whenever he shot a deep shot, the higher he would jump.
@@easymoneyrad Thanks! I don't want to be misunderstood. I'm not saying Steph is a propelling off two feet to generate power. He doesn't. He's not a two motion shooter like Westbrook. What I'm saying is that the transfer of power from his legs through his release point is much faster, enabling him to shoot further. I've been experimenting with his shooting form for about 5 years now, and I was surprised how much further, [effortlessly] and accurately I could shoot by adopting his form. And yes, I believe this made more possible due to Steph being a guide hand "thumb" shooter. Trae Young is probably a better example of the power transfer I mentioned due to being a smaller guard than Steph, but with similar range.
I tried 2 of your tips which are : to raise the body at the same time with the ball and to make a one motion jump shot. It make me feel that my shots are smoother. Thanks a lot.
@@topping38 May be u want to try this experiment. 1. Hold the ball as if shooting. 2. Raise your hand high, straightening your elbow. 3. Lower your knees. 4. Push upward with your legs, not hands. 5. Release the ball with wrist movement, fingers pointing to the hoop. 6. Let your leg momentum propel the ball. 7. Jump upward, not forward. Practice, and you'll find that leg drive provides sufficient power for a smooth, arcing shot."
"This video accurately explains the proper shooting technique in basketball. When shooting, relying solely on arm strength leads to inconsistent accuracy. True shooting power comes from the knees, which lower and spring upward in sync with the guiding hand. A balanced foot foundation, proper knee bend, and vertical jump generate shooting power, complemented by consistent hand movement toward the hoop. The hand guides the ball while the knees provide the spring-like propulsion. The ideal shooting form maintains consistent hand movement toward the rim until release, with a high arc, typically aligning with the eyebrow. Engaging video! Thanks to the creator."
@DanielBellBasketball "I love your video! Your research on shooting techniques really shines through. As someone who's also studied shooting, I appreciate your approach. Many players rely solely on arm strength, neglecting fundamental shooting stances. Others focus on long-range shots while struggling with close-range consistency. Perhaps they're misled by highlight reels of professional NBA players without appreciating the players' rigorous training. Keep creating, friend! Share your knowledge with me and everyone. Stay motivated, healthy, and successful!"
I was JUST talking to my best players tonight about this during practice. I am looking for some drill to help them learn this. Any ideas? They look just like yours. Trying to explain a constant velocity without acceleration through different stages (winding up like a spring) was really hard for them to understand.
The best thing that helped me to be more fluid is to, when shooting, focus on the ball, feeling the ball, what is the speed and the acceleration of it. but if you are going to try to teach that to someone i guess i whould say something like to never drecrese the speed of the ball, i really dont know any drill to improve fluidity, but i hope that this can help you a little bit
great video like always! I have a question about my fluidity and set point: I have a low setpoint that is lower than Curry's because I am young but I have alot of strength and I want to keep that set point for long range, for my midrange shots do you reccomend instead of being fluid, stopping at the setpoint then shooting? I dont have strength for a three pointer without my low set point but I have too much strengthh for mid range. Thanks for everything!
i have something similar too, what i do is not change my jumpshoot but change the power or speed of the shot, so in the mid range i shoot the ball way more freely and loose, in other words, with less power, after doing this i noticed how easy was to hit the mid-range shots, i hope this can help you!

okay, thanks for correcting me bro
a great cue is to think like the ball is raising your body in the air and then release it as you jump in one fluid motion
Thank you, this helped a lot, I was in a bit of a shooting slump, this allowed me to shoot better. ❤

I think you should not only make your shotting fluid, but also your english 😂 Great video brother❤
English isn’t most people’s first language
Coming from the person who just said "shoTTing". Yea i dont think thats much of an insult
