I think this sort of video shows something that gets overlooked by a lot of fans: NBA players are really good at defense, just offenses are so much better. The reason teams routinely score 100 by the end of the 3rd quarter isn't because players can't guard, it's that players can really shoot a lot better than ever.
You're right but it's also a lot to do with the rules favouring the offense. What these guys are doing in this clip is incredibly impressive in the modern game because they have to rely on maximum agility and minimum physical contact. When you can't barely touch people it's gonna result in high scoring, also makes lockdown defense all the more impressive when it happens.
Exactly but there’s more to it. It’s been talked about before but rules changes and looser rules on what’s traveling/0 step and so on, have lead to more moves being legal and more offence because of it. Can’t defend someone properly when they do a step back 3 but with 4 steps and no travel call. Or when they eurostep with 5 steps. The list goes on.
@@PingachuS Oh man don't even get me started on travelling. Seeing guys take 5 steps on the way to a layup is simply not fun to watch. Not to mention they probably also get fouled on the way from the slightest touch, rewarding them for this play. I hate the gather step but at least it should be enforced, you can't defend someone when they take 4 or 5 steps without dribbling.
@@Ebonyinvasionpart2 Nah, @allstar4065 has a very good point. At that level, both sides of the floor are exhausting. Dude WILL be gassed putting this much effort on both sides.
6:24 Kevin Love had that "mom who lifts the car off her trapped child" type of adrenaline going. Never seen him move his feet like that before or since
i remember watching that game and thinking, well, stuck against Steph out on an island, sucks to be Kevin Love... damn, he's playing some nice defence, though... daaaaaaamn that's not a good shot that Steph had to hoist. it might still go in, though... nope
most underrated channel, most underrated type of highlights. more DEFENSE vids please! Next vid: Chasedown blocks but they get increasingly more chasier lol
0:16 This is why I get so mad about Ben Simmons seeming to not want to play. If he just had a set shot and kept the athleticism with that defense, I would wish he were on the Bulls 😡
As I got older, it was the more I respected on ball defense. It’s nothing like it. As a youngin, all I cared about was stats and scoring, but these guys truly are the unsung heroes. This way of ball truly wins games. I just wish there wasn’t so many politics when it came to basketball now. This is real ball. This is what makes you love the game and want to have fun. Finally a video that doesn’t just only show blocks or steals but actual perimeter defense.

Right!
Defense is harder than offense. Perhaps that's why.

it’s literally harder to get stops especially at that level

Exactly
It's also more on spacing. With spaced offense defenses are ought to run every play. Clamps are only possible on isolations.

The will to play defense. The execution from great preparation. All was very evident from the players in this vid. Great stuff
Isn’t crazy how good some of these “bad defenders” are when they actually try to
fr everyone has some kind of good defense they just don't play it
Being a good defender is more about stamina and hustle than anything. If you wanna play defense to “conserve your energy”, you WILL get cooked.

Kobe was so cold
it’s insane that if Ben Simmons health/career didn’t collapse he would be in his prime right now and be the most valuable defender in the league
Wasted potential, for me he has higher ceiling (skill wise) than Magic.
1:04 I'll never get tired of saying this: it's criminal that Jrue Holiday does not have a DPOY to his name.
On god
It's criminal more guards don't in general, they have a harder job than bigs especially in the 3pt era.
