    I draw maps from a young age only with Bic pens by moderating the pressure, but now that some of my friends are interested in D&D I wold like to start making a detailed and accurate map.

    Interesting. I would say my largest time consumer is deciding what to draw and where to put it. So a 30hr map easily 50% is my waffling and being creative. The next biggest time water would be time on details ie. Individual trees or the mt. Technique. Simplifying technique and reusing a previous compass rose design would save some time. But for me not the majority of my time. Thanks for another great video.

    One of THE best and fastest ways to get super satisfying maps in super fast fashion for me has been using Wonderdraft. I have a HUGE world map which is super detailed and I made the progress like 5 times faster than doing in by hand, even though I had 0 experience with graphical design, using programs like Photoshop etc., and drew it all using a mouse with a bit lower sensitivity.
    And it has a black and white theme which is awesome for these super fast under an hour maps. It elevate terrain features create just the best coastlines and naming regions and drawing mountains and forests has never been faster. Best 20$ I ever spent!

  • @shinmalestat9272
    @shinmalestat9272 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, you're only challenging yourself to redraw a map you already made?
    Youre not quickly making a new map from scratch?
    I feel quite mislead by the title.
    But I did like your video on map making sites and I used Azgar's map generator to make a map that I liked.
    Then I downloaded Touch Blocker to be able to lock my tablet screen so that I could put a paper over it to trace the shape. From there Ive filled in and added details.
    The longest part of the process seem to be two things, putting in the geographic details and deciding national boundaries and how the former affects the latter.

    • @WASD20
      @WASD20  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never really do national boundaries on my maps.

    • @shinmalestat9272
      @shinmalestat9272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WASD20 But working from scratch the majority of the work time I think comes from deciding the geography of the land. And its worse the more you think about the way that rivers flow, how the mountain ranges form and how thick of forest you can have at higher elevations.
      Or Im overthinking things. lol
      But I definitely need to add nation boundaries for the sake of the nations themselves. I see most fantasy maps simply add the name of the nation through the territory and then leaves space between there and the next territory, whatever it may be.
      Although geological features form natural boundaries as well. The more harsh it is to cross a geological feature the less likely a nation is to try to claim land on the other side. Then add in your level of magic and adjust accordingly.

    • @WASD20
      @WASD20  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Deciding where things go is certainly time. Consuming. In the case of Ezora, I did a rough sketch on a separate sheet of paper before I ever laid pen to paper. Probably took me about one hour to for the land masses and make decisions.
      As for national boundaries, the thing you need to remember is that for most of history they have been very imprecise. Drawing a line for a border really commits you to a society that is quite advanced and has borders that everyone can agree on. In most times and places in history, borders have been a bit more loose, and a large bit of text across the region is a better representation of that.
      Still, I have seen fantasy maps with national borders. So it’s do-able.
