    You can uncheck "randomize" (or whatever the exact term is), then click on the specific stamp you want. You are right about the free version being very limiting.

    I just can't justify the subscription price when Wondercraft is one time. If it was one time price I would use it for sure, I like the style

      It's $25 a year. That is 3 trips to a fast food restaurant to put it in perspective. They need money to continue to pay employees to continue adding content.

      @@zachtrout9103 That's right. But on the other hand, how do wonderdraft sustain itself? i've been waiting for inkarnate to update for long, and then wonderdraft pops up and suddenly inkarnate updates short afther. ( Maybe i'm little off about the time thing). I don't know, seems they didn't payed too much atention until somebody who can take they customers apeared.

      Alex Ander inkarnate is on a web browser while wonderdraft isn't. This makes total difference because you are essentially renting a space in the cloud when you use inkarnate. That's why it's subscription based.

      They chose the subscription model, which is questionable for what they offer, so now they need to accept that some people will not obtain their product because of it.

    Hey, guys no bullshit, time stamp 3:31 (I don't know how to like make that a link), that's my map.. Well I mean a map I commissioned of my home-brew world. That is where my group of players are right now, in Washburn hills heading SouthEast. I designed the very, very, very rough 1st draft then had it commissioned. Not only do I use it as VTT, I had it printed out onto parchment and have a printed map that we will frame at the end of this section of the campaign. That's so crazy to be watching this, and see my world. .
    Edit: btw that is not the whole map, it's cropped a bit. This is so cool... I know I am way more excited about this than I should be

    I've been using them for a couple of months. As a do it yourself ref it is nice to have detailed maps waiting on my Roll20 account for each weeks session. I am able to use their clone and enlarge map section features to create language, cultural, political, terrain, and detailed regional blowups using the same base campaign map. I find the tiny yearly price well worth it. If, as is likely in two years or so something better comes along, I can move to that and not have waisted the price of a lifetime enrolment.

    I was searching for a Mapping tool for my new Campaign and found Dungeon Fog, Wonderdraft and Inkarnate. After sampling Dungeon Fog I found that the vector drawing did not fit with my image of organic hand drawn maps. So I went and bought Wonderdraft which is very good and fast for what it does - regional and global maps. I also tried to make some isometric style Villages with it, but the Number of assets and the focus on global maps made it's use limited at the moment. Today I took another look at Inkarnate then and found out about the extensive library that enables 2D and Isometric style Maps on all scales. I subscribed to the pro version and I am looking forward to some more non-isometric city assets to use in top down 2D style.

    A great video. I personally use Inkarnate over Wonderdraft. $25 for a year is pennies if you consider how much time you're using it versus the cost. The pro model also allows exclusive rights to all maps made using the software, so maps made with Inkarnate pro can be published as official campaigns or in other official works (such as fantasy fiction for me). Wonderdraft's one-off payment system is great, but it appears to me as though the quality of the software you're getting is lacking in comparison, particularly with regards to texture quality, procedural generation, and art assets for stamping. Wonderdraft is a great 'budget' option and I do still highly rate it, but Inkarnate edges it out for me just slightly due to the quality of resources and QoL systems involved.
    However, I am *very* excited from Project Deios. While the art style they appear to be employing for the map looks a little more, uh... cartoony which is a little more unfortunate for me, the vector-based procedural generation tools and community collaboration aspects they appear to be focusing on I think will probably will me over versus Inkarnate.

      The issue people have is that there is a better alternative out there with wonderdraft that does basically what this does but better at a flat price that may be higher than a year round subscription of inkarnate, but after 2 years of subscription it's almost twice as expensive. It's an unnesesary amount spended for something that isn't even as good as it's competetors. If you save your wonderdraft maps to a cloud, which you should do to anything you want to keep around long term, you will always have access to them as well.

    My two cents: Both Wonderdraft and Inkarnate are good programs, but both are limited in similar ways (a.k.a. there are only so many assets). What you're investing in is the kind of product you want for the future. Inkarnate is a subscription, but based on features they're adding, they're trying to become a one stop shop for all map types (regional, world, dungeon). Wonderdraft is specialized and now is accompanied by dungeondraft (both purchases are seperate). Neither is better, but both have different draw backs. Ultimately however, they're nothing wrong with buying both and taking their assets for personal use. TBH I usually make the basis of a map in these programs and then use something more robust to 'remake' the map and give me more control.

    • @jomormont
      @jomormont 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you use that is more 'robust' to remake the map?

  • @HappyMrGhost
    @HappyMrGhost 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It comes down to the assets, if you need a lot of assets and can't create them yourself, go for Inkarnate. If you own or create your own asset packs, go for Wonderdraft as it's the better software. I personally chose Wonderdraft for world maps, and Inkarnate for regional & battle maps due to the assets. But looking into Dungeondraft for battle maps. Inkarnates assets are what's keeping me there for now because good quality assets are really difficult to find, especially if you need a commercial licence.

    I'm not sure of you'll see this, but I need some advice.
    I've always done my maps with good ol' paper and pencil. Recently I've found myself wishing I had my maps readily available digitally. I'm thinking to make them vectors so I can scale as needed for different uses. Is this a good idea? If so, is Illustrator a good choice? I'm not really familiar with digital tools, but I've got hand-drawn maps that could be traced. Any help is appreciated.

      I don’t really have much experience with illustrator, but it definitely could work. For me I just make them high res in photoshop. This obviously doesn’t allow me unlimited zooming, but enough that I am totally satisfied with it.

    Inkarnate is a good choice for people like me who have hopped onto a Chromebook for a majority of their work. Wonderdraft and even Project Deios look cool as hell, but I don't want to have to use the Linux aspect of my CB, I'm not that strong with it.

    I've got a question: If you reach a higher level you get a higher proficieny bonus. But if you level up, does you get a new pb or does it get added to it?
    So if I would go from level 3 with a pb of 2 to level 4 with a pb of 3. Does my pf become 5 (2+3) or 3 (because that is what I get when I reach level 4)

      Have you read their terms of service lately? I checked, and they seem reasonable. But I’m not a lawyer. not sure if they’ve changed them recently due to a lot of the criticism they faced over this. Go to your account settings and opt in for v1.0, then give it a day or so to flip you over. I'd recommend against making maps before or during the switch because some of the assets disappear (or I'm just blind)

  • @CasparLapthorne
    @CasparLapthorne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Almost exactly a year later and they've drastically limited what's possible in the free version. Rather than simply adding pro-exclusive content they've clearly purposefully removed very basic features as well as the nicest looking assets from the free version. I'd estimate a 10th of the texture options are now available and pretty much all of the landmark stamps are really unattractive in comparison to what used to be available. Whatsmore you can't even see a simple grid without paying for a subscription. So now it costs $5 a month just to have a set of perpendicular lines over the top of your map while you're working on it. The path tool has also been removed and you can't even upload your own assets to compensate for the changes they've made. In short, Inkarnate has aged like milk and it's such a shame considering how good it used to be.

    • @CasparLapthorne
      @CasparLapthorne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Falcon Instead I just payed $20 for Wonderdraft which is a one time payment and it’s just as versatile if not more so than Inkarnate. Far better landmass tools, great options for external assets, and it’s cheaper than a year of Inkarnate to have it forever. Pay less for a better product is always better than supporting something that actively declines in quality and charges you for the “privilege” of using it for more than a year.

    • @CasparLapthorne
      @CasparLapthorne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Falcon I’ve used the paid version of Inkarnate. The assumption you made was based on no evidence whatsoever. I don’t understand the need for your passive aggression and in all honesty it was more so facts that opinion. Inkarnate DID remove most if not all of the useful features from the free version. It is far more expensive compared to its competitors unless you only ever plan on making maps for 1 month. And the install process for Wonderdraft is simple. 1 payment, 1 account, free updates, unlimited downloads, no need for internet connection to use. And if you REALLY wanted you could literally use all the assets from Inkarnate IN Wonderdraft so it makes it entirely obsolete 😂 I never said that people didn’t have a choice to make but rather informing people that right now Inkarnate has become one of the worse options for map making because of the reasons I outlined. Not my personal opinion on its functionality but rather an explanation of how it simply got worse and worse overtime while competitors made better alternatives.

  • @connors7078

    Why are people so stingy these days. $25 for a YEAR of anything is fantastic value. Holy crap. I was actually here to ask how easy it is to layer features. For eg, have buildings on different layer or du you duplicate? And for hex lines for eg. Once on are they easily removed?
