Steam Guard How To: help.steampowe...
Steam is a video game digital distribution service and storefront from Valve. It was launched as a software client in September 2003 to provide game updates automatically for Valve's games, and expanded to distributing third-party titles in late 2005.
I always check reviews and community posts where applicable, especially for low cost games. Some make me wonder how they manage to get on the Steam store in the first place so easily.
never buy a new game. or a game with few reviews.
and he skipped the worst part imo. that 800 game ban at the end. was 1 person. and i had heard way more than 800 games were banned. that was just the first day of bans. and by the time they, steam had banned those 800 games. many of which werea again the 1 guys. he had already reposted hundreds more.........
worst part. Almost all the steam pages looked legit. u do as this guy did. click on the publisher page etc. it took you to legit sites. and as i recall many of the reviews were positive and ofc fakes....... the main giveaway of it a scam. was its a game, Baldurs gate 3 lets say. selling for 20-30 dollars. when that game never goes under 40.
anways last i heard. the 1 man game scammer is still a problem. steam doesnt know how to stop. if true always be sus on games u buy. especially the budget games.
@@NotHappening-b8tI didn’t order a yappuchino
@@gdsosen I did
@@gdsosen The average Gen z kid filled with brainrot:
a friend of mine downloaded a game where you could only click an egg, not that graphics intensive, but recommended requirements were i9 12900k and rtx 4060
Ding ding ding you just became a miner
I will say that is very creative, but highly suspicious, and that user should be sued into Oblivion, they're probably making a crap load of money doing that very thing in the first place so Banning their account wouldn't do shit because they can always come back and another account, so it's better to find out who this person was send the FBI to their house whatever SWAT Team all of it, cuz these people are corrupt as hell.
nah bro sometimes the recommended requirments are just pure meme-ing, the dev just do a little trolling from time to time
Its a joke game the entire source code is accessible its fine
Egg rtx?
The bitcoiner bit is insane, was never aware about this
i wasnt aware per say. but same time. i know scammers publish games on steam. by the thousands. so i always been suspcious. I seen videos of games played with 0 player base or worst rated games played. i would think how do many of these even make it on steam lol. had to be more to the game.... something sus going on. Was enough for me to just always avoid them. i never dug deeper
It's been going on for a lot longer than a few months. This is a problem that has been going on for a long time.
Me too!
The real dark side of Steam is how much money Valve has gotten from me on games I’ll never get around to playing.
I miss the days when Steam actually had some quality control.
same
It was never safe. Trust me I seen this going on for many years a good 15+ years.
@zushikatetomotoshift1575 yeah some case of this could still happens but store wasn't flooded with poor quality games
@@moog38yearsagoupdated1mont9 Are you sure on that. Cause for the past 20 years the store had its issues here and there.
Yeah, ironically steam green light was a better system, it was free and had much better quality control - the people
Please keep up the good work in bringing to light corrupt games and corrupt game companies on steam. Subscription earned with my appreciation.
At least steam actually tries to do something about these things. Meanwhile youtube wouldnt have done a thing
youtube promotes and pushes scam content before others lol as long as they can put in couple of ads
you are correct youtube had actually done something, finally links are clickable again in my benchmark channel
TH-cam is moderated by bots. I think the AI has become so intelligent, it's now doing little "favours" for its own kind, like overlooking their spam. Just like a human moderator.
I've had someone try the 'accidentally reported you' scam before. The so called 'admin' account messaged me. I checked his profile, and it said he was an admin for p*rnhub I was laughing my ass off.
What is that “Accidentally… “ scam one?
@@joebyron2984 He explains it at 6:30 It usually starts with a random person messaging you through steam.
I had no clue about hidden crypto miners in games wtf
It's possible, mostly in pirated games, now Steam It seems, be careful
You may have upgraded your GPU or the whole computer all together for nothing 😅
Steam is an amazing platform for games. It does suck that there's a lot of malicious stuff and scams in it.
There is also GOG, no DRMs, you can download the offline installation of the games and the prices are give or take the same. The only issue is that it lacks some modern titles
@@Aki-kh2qe-StreetKidZZZI wish gog had cards to purchase from stores until then I’m not using them
@@Aki-kh2qe-StreetKidZZZbut I want to use gog so much
I had somebody msg me while i was playing rust, and they offererd me a spot on their team in $500 tournament and all you had to do was login to the competition thing to enter...
did you log in
@@Skipwayy it's implied he didn't
@@okbutwhatif9905 it could have gone any way i wouldnt say anythings implied
Just be careful in general. I don’t know what happened, but my steam account got hacked. And I got a whole Lotta charges on the Steam marketplace early morning when I was sleeping. Then when I did a PC scan. It told me I had a Trojan. I don’t know how they access my Steam account nor my computer, but everything is good now
You can get viruses just by leaving your computer running doing absolutely nothing. Don't know how easy it is now. But look up old windows XP. Someone made a video of the computer just being on and got many viruses within 15 minutes 😂 There's alot of people who refuse to upgrade their OS and stay on windows 7 or 10. After I learned about this, I make sure my PC is always on the newest OS possible. Yes, just leaving your PC on can get you viruses.
Great video ❤, now when I buy new games I'l be aware of this
This is where actual ownership of your content would bypass any online log ons etc
There are other ways where friends of yours on Steam send you a theft message via a Steam chat inside a very normal application. Your account and information can be stolen by someone inside an application, and Steam did not interfere or do anything with this thing. It just tells you to report it and we will take care of the rest. This situation happened to me and I was on the verge of It was about to be hacked, had it not been for my antivirus protection. Save me. I reported the person who wanted to hack me and Steam has not done anything yet. He has not been punished for anything.
Trade Scams are also a really big issue on steam
i got scammed on steam by a guy named shin/freedom he was a fake valve employee and showed me a fake screenshot of a valve employee certificate this happened back in 2020 and i managed to get my account back but the scammer blocked half of my friends so i had to unblock them all and re-friend them all back and told them what happened cuz i would never block any of my friends at all on steam so yeah now when every time i get a random friend request on steam i check the profile first if the friends list is hidden on that profile that's a steam scammer or if they don't have the badge of how many years they've been on steam or if their account looks completely blank with barely anything on it decline that friend request immediately
Damn, that sucks! Thanks for sharing though. I'm glad you got your account back.
@@Get_To_It np and im glad to 😊
Let me guess? They stole your money onto marketplace items? Same here brutha. Steam cares not about such things as Refunds. Or players at all.
I wouldn't accept random friend requests nowadays anyway, there are just too many people on the internet for that kind of behaviour. I miss the good old days when you could accept a random and they'd just sit on your list for a year, and then one day you decide to play something together and you suddenly become best mates, but those days are gone now. These days, if I accept a rando, they're either trying to scam me or trying to chat some bullshit. Now if I want people to play with, I'll groom them in a group or an external site and add them to Steam from there.
@@FBI_Agent_69420 oh i see ok and yeah
One you missed thats common is that if a friends account gets hacked they will send you a message about how they 'made a logo for a friends Esport team.'
steam has another problem if you leave your account public and leave money accumulated in your wallet for nothing you will be robbed they simply spend your money in the communication where there is no way to ask for a refund : (as I don't know how they do it but it must be a hacker or scam I don't know but Steam could fix this by putting passwords or something this has happened to me 4 times
I tried to speak to Steam support but they ignored me with excuses saying that it was not possible to refund
(translated)
I don’t tend to buy any of these low cost games but nice to be informed. Thanks for putting this information out there as I had no idea
Oh ma gawd...at 3:18 it's a grill hacker. Now I feel I have seen it all.
Steam should have a requirement where steam have to get sent the source code. Dont know of this happens or not but wouldnt that stop issues like this?
I remember when I was trade scammed long ago (many years ago) and Steam refused to give my stuff back because ‘it’s the victim’s fault’ That’s literally like a guy stealing someone’s car but they get to keep it after being arrested. Painful memories. Thankfully it’s not as bad as these scenarios. Thankfully Steam and valve do have quality control and act swiftly when these problems occur.
I don't think the day before got that much money, since steam held payments for one month and refunded a lot of people
I remember a steam scammer contacted me through discord and I already knew the red flags and blocked the user
the "accidentally reported you" makes me kinda glad Epic doesn't have a community feature and GOG Galaxy maybe had it but i don't know because GOG and those that are interested with are mostly playing the DRM free copies of the games
Still though Epic lost me on not having profile pictures (that every other app under the sun had it) and file backup feature (that even Ubisoft and EA had "locate installed game files" feature that Steam lacks, Steam only save backups and restore on their own format)
6:37 I actually fell for this scam once and in hindsight, I don't know how I didn't see all the red flags but at least I still have my steam account.
I was a victim of being scammed, almost got locked out of my account, thankfully I talked to my cousin and he was able to bail me out of what was happening before it was too late.
6:37 I remember happening that to me about “I accidentally reported you” thing and i was upset this happened during my school year in 2023 i was pissed that they lied to me about my account. And i had to delete the whole account and create a new one. They told me to give them a 100 gift card to them to activate it back.
Wild that you showed Peekaboo if memory serves correctly that was another Bit coin miner in disguise
thanks for bringing this to light. This video came up randomly for me, and I think I'll subscribe to you!:) I already have SteamGuard enabled on my own personal account, but my two gamer-sons love games, and have downloaded some sketchy cheap games in the past. I would remove these "mods" to these games as they didn't deliver on their promises, one that comes to mind is an addon type mod that I've only heard about is Icewolf.. Immediately removed that software off my son's system. My reasoning was that it's known malware, a virus, or mining software that harms their system. Thank you for bringing to light a feature within Steam that helps me become more vigilant! :)
I got scammed by steam user claiming he want 5th player for a DOTA 2 tournament... He sent me a link which showed trounament is about to happen and for that i need to link my steam to thar website... Within seconds my steam was hacked, i could not log back in and scammers practically looted all my steam wallet money and inventory full of exclusive dota 2 items which took me years to grind... Somehow i got my account back but the damage was already done... Plz be aware that do not link your steam to any external website ever.... 👍🏼
Let's not forget about the people on Facebook asking you to buy their kids a game while you two kick it in another room. Just to realize that they can somehow take your serial number and cash out
Last year one of my friends got hit with a phishing scam and he almost lost his account but luckily he got back in time
No "You've won a knife." scam, after all this time you should've been aware of it. Also if any site wants to log in through Steam, you shouldn't need credidentials if you're already logged in in that browser, only a simple click on the Sign in button should do, if it requests them despite, it's a scam.
Had my account stolen and last year, don't know how all I know is it 48hrs to get it back and I've early logged in since.
I didnt get scammed but i almost did, so once i got 4-5 friend requests from chinese people telling me to vote for their cs2 esports team(they dmed me because im a cs2 player and my inventory is public and it has some good items) so they asked me to enter a scam website that has voting rewards and when u click vote it redirects you to a scam website that looks like a steam login page and it tells you login so you can vote and if you login it will say invalid credentials.
Black Mesa on Steam updated and my protection said the update was a trojan
It is a false positive
But would someone play a fun game, that was cheap if the dev advertised that the cost is subsidized by the game mining in the background while the user played 🤔
I had no clue about hidden games in those new Crypto Miners? Wow
hidden crypto miners in games*
Ow but this even happens with the SteamCMD
Had a had a hosting server fully locked down
And here's reason number one why Steam is popular and other services are not (with minor expection of GOG for being great legacy game archive). Valve acts on problems within their service. I don't expect that within EAPlay or Epic.
Unfortunately I was a victim of the "I accidentally reported you" scam, thankfully I was able to get my Steam account back (And I made sure to change my password after that) but it was still terrifying
after the first time i got scammed on runescape when i was a kid... ive never been scammed again.
It's their own fault for downloading random games off Steam anyway. Have standards, people.
We need to go back to pre-greenlight policies of adding games to steam
Nothing is 100% safe or anonymous on the internet, unless you made it.
I had multiple items in my inventory worth over 50euro. I got scammed by some ingame chat link. It took the scammer 50 seconds to sell every single item at 0.99 euro and buy his item listed for like 29 euro. So i got 0.03e item and he got my entire steam vallet. By selling my whole steam inventory underpriced.
I had steam guard and steam statement is.
Steam items with lesser value or marketplace listing items under 1e dont require conformation.
WHO AT STEAM IS DECIDING WHAT my Items are WORTH. I had 1 euro cs skin with 60 dollar stickers on it.
And he bought item worth 29 euro without needing my steam authoricator. Fuck steam i would sue thier ass. I want every single marketplace and vallet purchase to be locked behing my phone steam guard fuck steam for this. They should return my money. Since he didnt steal items but my money.
i have never used steam before, is this issue currently so bad that i should just not use steam?
kind of weird decision to show anonymous face masks in a negative video about hackers when it is generally understood they fight for good causes.
not all people are aware of them, and not all people are smart enough to do research.
The Days Gone people couldn’t take the money and run any games that were refunded did not get paid out to them, Valve holds the developers money for 30 days at a time.
A good thing is I am using Steam on Linux so no one cares about targetting my OS. :)
And therefore, We Play Pirated Games
Yep!
Won’t find any malware in those! #totallysafe
If someone steal your valve cds they can steal your account. We are still in 2007 valve.
When did Skyrim come out? 2012? Back when Skyrim, a single player game, required steam login to play; after installing from a DVD I had bought at the store; that's when I quit playing AAA games. Not only was it spy ware, but the copy I bought on release day can't even be played without a 3 GB patch! WTF
Uh-oh! Are you having major consumer protection issues after letting yourself get trapped in a centralized walled garden?
Say it ain't so!
People losing their steam accounts is just them being naive or purelly not-internet ready. It's been known since 2004 when WoW hit the market that no employee will ever ask you for credentials or to log-in anywhere via link sent not to email from official email while on call with CS.
As for bad games and crypto-miners, it's either only big games hit the market, or you allow everyone to bet if their game will make it "big" for $100. I way prefer allowing small games to have a place and create a community, rather than being only on Itch or Newgrounds.
This is why I don't trust early access, you dunno what the files in there are doing to your PC because it has no QA, or any kind of validation that it is safe to use. Also early access doesn't have a great track record.
Scams as in games that got early access and then never go anything further? XD
I downloaded a game called “Virtual Crypto Miner 49er” but, hey ….
If you wear a hoodie with the hood up indoors, you have issues. Unless you’re actually cold, then it’s ok.
The biggest steam scam I fell for was paying 120 dollars for the Base game of Borderlands 3. (It often goes on sale for 20, and with that you can get the game and all DLC for less then what I payed for originally)
how did you buy it for 120 dollars
Lol damn 🤣
7:09 I fell to that scam
0:56 My expensive computer can't run this simple game. I guess I must buy a even more expensive computer 😅
The game companies should be shut down this is not acceptable.
1:07 The dev already admitted that they're mining crypto doesn't matter if it's bitcoin, dogecoin, or coincoin. Monero is still crypto. Just because it's not name "Bitcoin" doesn't mean it's not cryptocurrency.
i was hacked by trojan before some days on steam,i was so stupid how i got scammed
i was victim of i accidentally reported you scam on Steam
Ayoo??.. could this be what's happening in cod? My friend, and myself both notice a massive spike in gpu usage when launched thru steam... I have to use a overclocking software to essentially under-clock it.
I know someone is going to ask if my PC is even capable. Yes it is capable of running MW warzone. And then some. But the thing is as soon as I launch it, my PC runs in overdrive.
This is why I have steam guard. I rarely get the oops i reported your account scam. But my bf gets it every now and then. I did get that on discord once but it was from a friend's account I already knew was hacked and I knew their new account name.
my steam account has been hacked before and when i contacted steam suport they didnt do shit lol
me too, all my digital item and steam balance all been emptied out and steam support cant do shit about it.
Wow, I don't blame people pirating if this is how they deal with customers.
Valve should at least check this stuff that is being uploaded to their store.
@@azrulzughairi894 me too
My friend always use 2fa. I had my account hacked multiple times always got it back. My old passwords always go online in data leaks. Great reminder to never use the same password twice
probably because you stole the account? I got mine back after a day :D
ya bro I always thought this.. steam doesn't even scan updates like ps5/xbox do they just let them drop whatever.. and whats that shit sega does with Denuvo??
Steam for no reason you get randomly hacked
my steam hacked like 2-3 times already they sold my inventory, also buying some dota s#it from market for like 1-120$, each Dotas items were from 0.03-0.09.
I have all the security but somehow after reinstalling windows they still hacking my steam. don't know what to do? I even hide my wifi and changed mobile phone and I waiting for new hacker...
Brilliant video man, thanks.
Yea far cry 3. Etc .. iubisotf..etc. An all tha rest all galabal wilzels for a tha oldest crpto scam and wested electricity...
if your friends ever get hacked on steam and you get a message from them with a link saying they sent you 10$ the link is just a phishing website to where it makes you log in for the 10$ be safe and dont even open the link they may have our ip if you do so.
The darkest side of Steam is 30% revenue and built-in microtransactions for games.
All games are becoming data miners. Games as Service. It's great!
I actually fell for a "I accidentally reported you" scam:(
it's ok grandpa, it happens
Lol you'd think if you're going to disguise a Bitcoin miner as a game you'd at least keep it free
recently my account get hacked and all my wallet money going to 0
The only game I'm still playing is ravenfield
The Discord thing happened to me before, I was such a fool, luckily my friend saved me XD
No offense but its very dumb to fall of these scams. Real companies will never ask for your password
@@AzZulski Of course, I'm surprised that I almost fell for it XD, it was a long time ago but, everything is fine now, it's funny that I still get messages like this, these people should be reported
I’ve had my steam hacked they did something on Csgo and got me a vac ban so now I’m unable to play counter strike 2 well screw me right
And it can’t be removed
Simple solution, don't buy shitty games.
my Steam account was almost stolen from clicking the fake steam link so for anyone that's reading this please be careful from links that may be linked to steam but it's also can be a fake link I was fighting to get my account back but I managed to get it back so it's just not the games it also links
Whats the name of the streamer in the minute 0:05 to 0:06, the guy with the virus and task manager open? Thanks in advance.
Your PC is not going to 'damage itself' under high load.
it remind me that thered shell spyware exists in games
Steam still allow Games with DRM till now
i remember last year getting a ping on discord or an email but i can’t remember which but it had said that my steam account was hacked and for some reason my dumbass self gave the person my steam acct info and what do you know, they got onto my account and purchased over 100+ dollars on csgo crates. i was more scared of my pc info being leaked glad i got it fixed tho🙏
somebody hacked my account when i removed mobile authenticator . after disabling the authenticator under 1 day my account was hijacked and after 2 days steam support returned my account but still a am not able to find how my account was hacked
Do you use the same passwords on the same email?
If one is hacked, the hackers will try all you're accounts with that email and password
RetroArch 1.19.0 release is that
kinda good and bad , many people can upload their game to so many players , but on the other hand there is so much trash
I only play tf2, cs2, Halo and Hades, so I should be safe
Thanks for the video!!!!
Someone tried with me the compromised account, I sent to steam support the conversation the account that came towards me and the one he gave me saying it was one admin from steam.
Check the game files before you play.
I was thinking about buying a pc , not now I'll stick with console, you know what you're getting with a console.
Does that maurice game acc have crypto miner. No one else mentioned it
