This was voted by our Patreons into the diamond tier so unfortunately as of right now itll be bonus content for our diamond patrons 😄 we can’t do exclusive tiers for every drama we watch so this is our system. $5 tiers get 1 show a week, gold gets 2, diamond gets 3, ruby gets 4 plus other perks. We don’t fully decide what show goes where we leave them up to a vote

Oh yea she did forget to mention that WangYiBo and XiaoZhan were not allowed to contact each other publicly anymore. Since that time they are almost never in the same space or stage, they can't even look at each other. It's really sad because they rlly were the BEST bros before the crisis. Something that I think is very important to note as an avid A03 user (I don't ship real people), is that it is simply an archive completely run on donations. You CAN write whatever you want on there, BUT fics supposed to be clearly tagged and marked if they contain any sensitive or morally unacceptable behavior. To read that material, you have to actively seek it out. All the original fans who reported the fic actually just brought it to the attention of the masses when it would have just been fine if they hadn't said anything. AO3 has very few rules intentionally because it is supposed to be a place where anyone can write anything, and although I do not agree with writing about illegal or inappropriate age gaps in a positive light, there are contexts where writing about them can allow for people to vent or represent their stories that they do not see in media. I feel like reporting the site did no good whatsoever because the true fault is on the reader who clicked on the fic anyway even after reading the tags first. Idk but I feel like if an author tags "inappropriate age gap" or "illegal relationship" and you read it and get mad that it contains an inappropriate age gap or illegal relationship then you need to get off the site entirely. If no tags were warning the readers of the content, then reporting the fic to the site could actually work because that one of the most important guidelines for AO3: do NOT mis-tag fics.

Well I think if you write about real people, don’t forget that they are real. There is a line which shouldn’t be crossed. This kind of fanfics are just disgusting and disrespectful towards the actual people. Some writers completely disregard the fact that those are real people with feelings.

It's not like people know them, they're basically just using their names to write whatever they want. If you don't agree with writing about real people than you shouldn't read the fanfic: most of Ao3 fanfic (that I've read at least) are well tagged so people shouldn't read anything that would make them uncomfortable.

My best friend was one of the "I am a commoner, I hate Xiao" people who doesn't even use AO3. It was like a politically correct thing at the time that if you don't hate him or diss him, you are a bad one. I cannot do this not just because I watched Untamed and liked him but also because I knew he was absolutely innocent of this. I am still proud that I never followed the "mainstream" canceling him during 227 because a grown-up should have critical thinking skills and think independently.

What happened to Xiao Zhan literally brought tears to my eyes, he did not deserve any of it. He was at the peak of his career💔
His comeback live performance was gave me goosebumps! You could see how nervous he was and im soo glad that he was able go bounce back and gain his popularity once again.
I still sometimes watch that live performance.❤
At that time, i was a lil mad about how his co-actors were not coming to his defence but i guess given how the netizens react, that was the right move. But a sweet friendship was ruined, a mans career was temporarily on a stand still, many companies lost money, many ppl lost their source of comfort and freedom and many ppl left with broken hearts. No body gained anything from this meaningless incident.
I can’t speak much about his acting career as I’ve only watched him act in the untamed and haven’t watched any of his other series or movies but the man’s got insane talent when it comes to singing, i absolutely love his singing❤❤❤

Wang Yibo is reserved not just with girls but also with kids or any other guys. He takes a lot of time to become comfortable with someone. Even when he met Xiao Zhan, they were quiet and very reserved. Although Xiao Zhan is also kind of reserved but his personality is sweet and kind. Wang Yibo can come off as savage, which might make him appear rude, but he really loves his personal space. He's quite close with Xiao Zhan after 'The Untamed.' anyway what happened Back than was a past & was pretty unfortunate but karma is real. Now both of them are respectable & top-tier actor in China and popular worldwide & extremely loved by their fans.

This whole incident is so ridiculous. Why the poor guy had to suffer? What's wrong with people? China is really anti-LGBTQ+ community, that's why you'll rarely see any explicit BL or even a single gay celebrity. Xiao Zhan is a very kind and talented actor; he wasn't recognized by people back then, but that doesn't mean he was the worst actor because he's not. Yes, Wang Yibo's personality is a contrast to Xiao Zhan's, but that's who he is, and his fans love him for it. Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan were very close, and many clips from behind the scenes made people wonder why Yibo is sweet to Xiao Zhan but rude to others, which he wasn't. It's just his cold personality; no one can do anything about it. He doesn't speak much, but with Xiao, he was a non-stop talker. So I do understand the shippers, and you know what? They are not allowed to work together after this incident, no public appearance together. And the most overwhelming thing is there are still millions of fans supporting them even after 6 years (as YiZhan), their ship name. That's the impact of them & "The Untamed" on people is.

The people who wanted Xiao zhan to talk about the impact of that on marginalized community are delusional because he lives in China, you want him to say sorry to something is censored by the government and it would cost him his livelyhood ... Writing a fanfic that resembles the actor you want or you imagine the character would be like for me is fine but CHANGE THE NAME. Do not used the real actor's name. 😤

Honestly for me the controversy help remove the toxic fans in his fandom and have only the most loyal ones remain. On top of that he got the sane general public on his side. A lot of casuals in Weibo are saying the way these marginalized group treated him is insane. Many who aren't even his fans started supporting him becuase of it. His selling power is insane! Majority of his fandom are 30+ years old so they are working professionals who can afford to buy & sold out even the most expensive things he sell. It's crazy! I think in the end... it work out for him well.

I just want to elaborate that of all fanfiction platforms AO3 is by far the most organized one. It has system, it has rules, it has legal protection team and its a very good safe place for self expression. And fanfiction from AO3 is known to be mostly of very good quality, we're talking about MASTERPIECE level works. If Wattpad is mostly for less experienced writers and just writing down your fantasies, AO3 is like next level. Of course, still a lot of poorly written stuff, but generally is more "professional".
Also, all unapropriate stuff should be tagged and have warnings, so you have to CHOOSE to read it yourself, no one is making you read it.

To be honest, the only problem I had was the fans didn’t report the artist they didn’t report it to the creator of the website, the CEO, the people who are control, they reported it to the Chinese government. People don’t understand that AO three is somebody’s career. It can be someplace where they can get their financial income, communities for people who feel like they are not supported by the people around them. This place was so big and it’s still big all over the world but it’s been a removed from a big chunk of the world and that’s what people got mad off of. I don’t understand why they, they implanted the idol into the situation but still I partially think it was the fans who reported it fault because if they just left it alone, if they didn’t like it and just you know, reported it to the people who can particularly remove the fanfic this situation would be over an instant.

It’s also „interesting“ to watch his video where he talks about the hardships during filming the untamed. Hardly getting any sleep, injuries, allergic reaction to the „rain“, his eyes are often bloodshot, because of the „rain“ and his co-actors telling him to eat, because he didn’t really eat and lost a lot of weight and he wasn’t „heavy“ to begin with.

I have to push back on one comment made in this video: "It's a fanfic. [...] its delusional." That statement, along with the previous and post statements, really undermines fanfiction as a whole. Yes, there is some really out there, really crappy fanfics available online, but that is not the majority. I've read and written many a fanfic before, and I can tell you that there are some seriously talented writers out there with some wonderfully executed storylines. I'm not here to argue the efficacy or morality of shipping real people in fanfics, I'm a "It is, what it is." type of person and can disconnect the real world implications because its FICTION, but I draw the line at people saying that its just shit writing across the board. Fanfiction is just like any other medium, any other art, it has its pro's and con's. But, to dismiss it entirely, based on anecdotal incidences of "fanfics gone wrong" (like the Twilight fanfic "Masters of the Universe" ie. 50 Shades of Gray) is to belittle a lot of real work and talent, the world over.
Side Bar: The implication that fanfiction is "not real media" is insulting as hell.

Ok, guys, I don't usually comment on your vids (I can't remember if I ever actually have and I haven't even finished watching), but I just wanted to warn you that the way you guys keep talking about A03 and fanfics in general, is gonna have a lot of people pissed at you.
A03 is a creative writing platform that millions of people worldwide use daily. The site follows few but strict guidelines and some authors do and have been reported and removed/banned from the site for not following those guidelines. One of those very important rules is "Tagging", basically the author is responsible for ensuring that whatever controversial content that MIGHT be included in their story is properly "tagged" at the very start so people don't get a nasty shock when they read. For example, if a story could potentially contain underage relationships, abusive relationships, SA, violence, child abuse, murder, illegal activities, etc....Then the author is responsible for letting the readers know at the very, very start so they can CHOOSE whether to read or not. It's not supposed to be a shock and if you don't support what's written, you can just not read it. It is a place where many, many authors (myself included) go to practice their writing and storytelling skills.
The people who use the site go there to find escape, comfort and release from all the shit humans go through on the daily. True, there are a lot of very shit stories, poorly written and terrible to try to get through all the confusion that it creates (and, yes, there are THOUSANDS of stories about relationships with minors that also exist on the platform, this fanfic was not unique in any sense, unfortunately).....But there are also wonderful stories, golden gems that people even print out, bind and make a hard copy book version to keep in their libraries.
Yes, there are amazing fanfics and writers on there too.
I understand that you might not be familiar with the platform, but it's a matter of respect, please don't make generalised statements like "fanfics can't be taken seriously" or that "all fanfics are confusing in nature" or even "there is no moderation of the site", because it isn't true and it comes off as ignorance.
It would be like saying content creators and TH-cam reactors do not have or cannot have real jobs. Which is incorrect since doing the things you guys do takes a lot of work sometimes. It's the same for fanfic writers.
    YiZhan forever ❤

As a Chinese person and part of the "marginalized community" experienced 227 firsthand, I've seen countless videos both from China and from outside China talking about this, and the opinion is so polarized. Even this year on the 27th of February, Chinese netizens would still see videos about "we will never forget 227" and people would still feel uncomfortable being around fans of Xiao Zhan. It's a totally opposite reaction to like western media covering the topic.
The reason why, I feel, is because of cultural differences.
In China, well, in East Asian culture, fandom is completely different from the Western concept of fandom. Fandoms especially of idols, are organized communities with lots and lots of profit in them. In my experience, western fandoms are mainly about the person they like. If you like a singer, go to their concerts, buy their albums, recommend them to your friends, and that's it. In East Asian fandom, however, fan build their identity on their idols, they build their life around their idol, and no matter what people say, the reality is that idols regulate the fandom.
Well, probably not the idol personally, but their agency.
A lot of the "big fans" in an East Asian fan group are in charge of organizing the fans. They order normal fans to purchase merch, go to event, vote on polls, build positive image for the idol... and so on. The big fans are in direct contact with the agency, and the agency have the power and right to control the fandom. It's not an opinion, it's the reality. Some of the "big fans" are even paid by the agency to organize the fandom. There are so so SO much profit to be made in a fandom.
Idol, then, in this case, is not himself, but a product of both the agency and the fandom.
We, as the "commoners against Xiao Zhan", know that he himself is probably full on innocent, has nothing to do with anything, probably didn't even have a say in the matter. But he himself is not what's being targeted. It's the agency, it's his fans.
In Chinese fan culture, there's no separation between fanbase and their idol, it's simply the reality. Xiao Zhan and his agency profit and benefit on their fans and others who simply are interested in their work. He got his most fame from a danmei (BL) adaptation, yet the second they got the money, they wanted to separate him from the image, and that's why "big fans" organized attacks on AO3 and lofter. They don't want him to get typecast, they want him to be mainstream. And in China, main stream male actor can't be seen as anywhere close to LGBTQ+ community.
(Sorry for my grammar and weird wording and rambling, English is not my first language)

but that's still sad tho. I'm actually very happy the actor didn't commit suicide or harm himself. finding yourself hated on an intensive level for something other people did can mess up your mentality. And although that I agree that the site shouldn't be shut down, I still thing shutting down the fanfic itself is reasonable. Acting in an lgbtq drama doesn't give the right to others to write about you in messed up stories especially since it's a sensitive topic in China. And if the Chinese citizens have such power when uniting against an idol, why don't they do the same against the government, the one that actually messed it all up

The authors aren't actual writers they're probably in high school and shit. It's not that serious, it only is if your treat it like it's actual literature. If it was published, fine. That's questionable, report the publisher. but it's not. It's supposed to only be in web, and just in web. Most people who read fanfic understand that some of the things there are unhinged.

1:04:27 I don’t think the „marginalized group“ had any right to complain. I get they found people there, they could relate and all that, but solely rely on one or two sites on the internet? And quite obviously they were lying also, they didn’t just have those two sites, they quite obviously were able to Organise themselves without those two sites. They didn’t need those sites to come together and form a hategroup.
And forcing him to apologize, he was literally the only victim in this whole situation, and still not be satisfied? All of that just made the lgbtq community worse in the eye of the public, they didn’t do themselves a favor with this.
On top of all that, Zhao and Wang are even forbidden to interact with eachother, especially in public. They were so close and now the company forced them to ignore eachother. It’s just disgusting.

And I don't mean the boy love to the brotherly love, I mean the way every single characters was depicted. I just don't get the same vibe as the novel.
