Wondering what are the attachments at either end of the ma string? Do they enhance the strings sound? And i notice that sometimes sitar players appear to apply something to their fingers as they play. Just wondering what that is and what its used for. Thanks for an amazing rendition of Yaman.
Thanks for tuning in DU. Sitar players apply a coconut oil to their fingers to help glide over the strings when they play. They pluck the string with a metal pick attached to the finger. It's called a mizrab.
I expected more as he is a son of a good Sitarist Pt.Shashi Mohan ji Bhatt. Keeping in view his performance I can only say that it was not a performance by a person who uses prefix Pandit/Ustad otherwise it is a good performance. I failed to observe Kharaj, Laraj, Gammuck, even ZAMZAMA he avoided which need to be a part of his performance. But Tabla I found more impressive it was really like a Ustad like Ustad Hidayatulla Khan Sahab, Ustad Dayamali sahab even at some point it reminded me Pt.Samta Prasad ji of Banaras. Please don't take other wise I gave my understanding which may also be not acceptable to person concern as I am just a listener not a player. I just commented what I felt after listening.

What's happening at 36:28?
He is saying he is getting into a certain fast (drut) composition.
He says "ek bandish suniye, bahut sundar hai" in hindi. It means "please listen to this bandish (composition), it is very beautiful"
.
I wish Krishna would tune his sitar better. Its hard to enjoy when its so out of tune.
