  • My review of the new Ruger Wrangler .22 revolver. For the money, this is an excellent little gun and a lot of fun to shoot.

I just purchased mine on sale for $169. What drew my attention is the fact that this revolver is very similar to the Ruger Bearcat that I had in the late 60's and early 70's. It was a bit lighter in weight but very accurate and easy to handle.

I like to watch these smaller channel reviews because I know some company didn't give them money for a good review or offer them the gun for half price etc. Thank you for the review!

Excellent point. I've come to rely on Reddit and discussion boards more after shooting some guns (thank goodness not buying) that a big-box reviewer said good things about.

Bought one a couple weeks ago. Still waiting to take it to the range. My last 22lr handgun was an EAA Bountyhunter. It was a good dependable handgun. It cost the same as the Wrangler.

I just ordered one from my local gun shop. They didn't have it in stock but will be there Monday. I have to start the background check then I have to wait 10 days after that. The one that they are selling at the sale price is the grey one or silver, whatever color you wanna call it. The black looks really good. I didn't see one at the shop since they didn't have any but from your video and other videos it looks great in black.
The Rough Rider I almost bought a couple years ago and never got around to it but now that this is out I'm glad.
Mine was sale price of $189 plus tax. I like the Single Six but at the $500 plus price I didn't want to spend that much. I prefer rifles over handguns and I can see spending $500 or more on a rifle but not a handgun. I'm just not motivated to pay a lot for a handgun but on a rifle I am. I have one other hand gun which is an ATI 22LR in the style of a 1911. I forgot how much it was I think like $229 or so.

The Wrangler is made of the same materials as the Heritage. It's got a Zinc Grip frame and Aluminum frame. I love how everyone calls this a "budget" gun but the Heritage is "cheap" 🤣.
The single six is more expensive because it's a much higher quality firearm and it comes with the 22 Magnum cylinder. I love Ruger but this is a cheaply made firearm no different from a Heritage.
Edit My Rough Riders have been perfect for several years now. They also have the 4 Colt click which is nice to hear Everytime you pull the hammer back. Hopefully your enjoying your Wrangler.

The grips look like the stock blackhawk grips, but a little smaller.
The free wheeling cylinder bothers me a bit, the rough rider doesn't do that. Imagine having to line it up year after year, every time you ectract a case. Ugh. Maybe it'd get to be habit so you wouldn't notice. Hopefully.
The rough rider is fun, accurate and reliable in my case. I really think people are comparing them too harshly. The only thing I wish was different for the rr is the cylinder bolt is a stamped part. It seems to work fine, though. And if it did wear out, the part is easy to replace.
The rr is available in many different versions, mine has a wooden grip carved to resemble snake skin, it actually is pretty attractive.
The rr frame is solid. Some people make a mountain out of a molehill about the frame. The casting is stronger than necessary and keeps the price down.
The ruger action allows safe carry of 6 loaded cylinders, a big plus. The traditional rr action can allow safe carry of 6 loaded cylinders, but only if you use the hammer block safety (which is why it has the safety, I think). Tha safety is very conveniant to use for your thumb, is not ugly, and isn't there just for the lawyers (like the completely unnecessary safety on lever guns). It's there, from what I see, to allow all six cylinders to be used.
Both guns are worthwhile and different enough to coexist, I think.

I picked up one this Sunday was at a sale price that I could not pass on. Hope to get out this Sunday to try it out. At $169 I can throw it in my backpack in the trunk and not worry.

Ruger had a special package out that I just bought yesterday for $249 which is now the list price on Ruger.com for just the gun. They combined the Silver Carakote color with the wood grips instead of the normal checkered synthetic on the website and they threw in a Slim Jim type Ruger holster with leather strip gun retainer (goes around the trigger from the holster) which is listed at $29 plus shipping. However unlike the one listed there, this one has the stitching go all the way across the bottom instead of having the open bottom on the website. Very nice Ruger holster that form fits the Wrangler. I could not pass up the deal and had to go to 3 different outlets listing it before I found one that had 3 sets. Naturally I did not take the display one and they were happy to get me one still in the box unopened from the back storage area. Since right now it is almost impossible to find any pistols or revolvers for sale around here except Heritage single 6s, I felt lucky to have found this deal on line through this chain sporting goods store within 1/2 hour of me. I've bought and loved Rugers since I was 21 and in fact still have the classic 3-screw 1972 .357Mag/.38Sp Single Six Blackhawk I bought the year after I returned from Vietnam.

No offense but if you have never fired a rough rider you aren't in a position to compare the two other than visually. I own three rough riders and never had a problem with anyone of them. I will eventually purchase a Ruger but I think the company must have been losing a lot of business to the rough rider that forced them to make a budget friendly gun.

    • @FactsDominate
      @FactsDominate 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have 2 Wranglers and a Rough Rider and yes the Wrangler feels and looks like a much better gun than the Rough Rider. The "Paint Job" on the Rough Rider (on my gun) was sloppy and gave me the indication that the surface below it was lumpy. My Rough Rider was no where near the "Point Of Aim" but the Wranglers were both on the spot. I had the Rough Rider for 8 months prior to buying the Wranglers and spent a lot of time on the range trying to like it. I think that if I had bought a shorter barrel (I have the 6.5) I would have liked a much better. Any way after I bought the Wranglers I was going to retire the Rough Rider but instead I decided to strip it and give it an antique look. Once I started the project I noted that the Rider wasn't as bad underneath as the paint made it look. It really started to look really good and feel good. I was also starting to like the longer barrel. I still prefer the Wranglers but I decided not to retired my Rough Rider and bought an attractive holster for it. I may even modify the sight (the heck with the warranty) to get it on spot. So whenever I decide to do a little 22 LR range time the Rough Rider comes with me along with it's "brothers from another mother" the Wranglers since I don't have to hide it from my range buddies.

Wrangler still not in stores around here so I gave up and bought the Ruff Ryder.
Quite happy with it, functions well and no worries about scratching it up.
Kind of like getting a mutt from the pound instead of waiting for a pedigree
from a breeder. My Heritage has cocomobolo grips out of the box BUT the
Wrangler's plastic grips can be replaced by Single-Six grips which add $50-75
to your 'budget' Ruger. That's assuming grips more available than the Wrangler.
7:42 RR has zinc alloy? Really?? Wonder why their website calls it aluminum alloy.
