    If I knew about this I would’ve bought it I mean I still can but I got the android head unit and it messes with my AC I have very little control of it here and there it turns on/off by itself rapidly

    Looks dope going to look into it. My only fault i found was fitment with these aftermarket units. Its always sunk in but i think you had add washers to even it out and go flush with the dash. Funny enough i live in Toronto. Appreciate the video. One question though, is the OEM back up cam not compatible with the unit?

    • @AC_metro

      Yeah, my top right side was a mm or 2 sunk in. I just put a washer between the radio bracket and the factory mounting hole and now it satisfies my ocd. Lol

    Congratulations bro 👏....I got the same headunit from another seller in aliexpress and man that was the worst experience I install the unit in my car the AC and audio didn't work no matter how many time I tried to contact the seller then he send a other cables with new canbus but the AC work only from the headunit buttons and not from the screen and the blutooth audio and handsfree mic when talking over the phone was worst... at the end I hate the unit and replace it with the OEM.

      I had the same AC issues, and still have. Only from the screen they work. Also the temp buttons (left and right) won't work. As the right buttons for the telephone won't work.
      The front and read heating buttons are changed the other way around. Does you @my2is have the same issues? @alialwehedi, where do you live? I'm from the netherlands hand facing this issues. I red an article that this had to do with the region (america, europe or japan). Don't know if there are differences?
      What software / apk do you use / Which can, mcu or system and carsettings version is installed? The information you can see if you go to the about section.
      Maybe i can try an other version of these to figure out what the (my) problem is.

    I ended up buying this. Any chance that you know what color the reverse trigger wire for the back up camera is?
    There's nothing labeled as a reverse trigger. I did see a video that said the camera reverse trigger wire is "usually" the 3rd wire next to the red hot wire on the main black plug. However, that wire in this unit is connected to the Canbus module and I definitely don't want to cut it to test it. Lol

    • @AC_metro
      @AC_metro ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Update: it is the 3rd wire on the black plug - it's brown. Don't cut it because it's connected to the Can bus module. Just tap into it. This brown wire is the reverse trigger wire and will tell the radio to display the backup camera

    • @AC_metro
      @AC_metro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @edps cupcake no, I have an aftermarket back up camera. The radio description said it came with a backup camera, but when it arrived there was no backup camera. When I reached out to the company they said they were out of promotional backup cameras and they credited my PayPal for $18.
      I then went on Amazon and bought a standalone backup camera that works outstanding.

      @@AC_metro - I ordered this head unit and it arrived today. The back up camera connector that comes with the unit has 1 yellow and 1 black wire coming out of the plug that go straight into the yellow rca plug. There are also 2 additional short yellow wires coming out of the same plug, attached to different pins. What are they used for?

    • @AC_metro
      @AC_metro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonbarrier3115 I believe those are for vehicles with factory back up cameras. My Lexus IS250 only had the basic radio - no back up camera so I can't say for sure. I only installed an aftermarket back up camera.
      If your Lexus doesn't have a factory screen and back up camera those wires won't be used. Are you planning to do an aftermarket back up camera?

    • @jasonbarrier3115
      @jasonbarrier3115 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AC_metro - Yes, I don’t have factory NAV. so I also purchased the aftermarket Boyo VTL 17IRTJ license plate mount backup camera, because I wanted the active parking lines. My head unit did come with the “free gift” camera from AliExpress, but that one doesn’t have active parking lines. To clarify my question, the head unit came with several cables and connectors. I started just counting the pins of each connector, as someone suggested, and plugging the appropriate connectors into the back of the unit. At this point I haven’t removed the OEM radio. One of the cables that came with the new head unit is the one I am describing, white molex connector on one end, that plugs into the back of the head unit. Coming out of the back of the molex connector are the yellow and black wires that go into the yellow (female), RCA plug. On each side of that yellow and black wire, there are single yellow wires. They are both probably 1” in length. They current don’t connect to anything, just straight wires coming out of the connector. This would be so much easier if I could send photos! Thanks

    nice mod.
    About the audio, the reason why people think its lacking is because you lose the Lexus Audio tuning which is programmed in the old unit. You lose even more if its Mark Levinson tuned.

  • @jasonbarrier3115
    @jasonbarrier3115 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Great to hear you are thinking of doing a part 2 to this video. I've learned a lot so far. Here's a couple other questions I have, (1) One of the things I like about this unit over others are the physical buttons around the screen. I don't believe you used any of the physical buttons in the original video, but assume they work well, with no lag? I think one of the reviews of the product on AliExpress mentioned the physical button quality may not be as good as the OEM unit. What is your opinion on that? (2) It appears the physical buttons light up when selected? A review I read about the other head unit you mentioned (without buttons on the sides), mentioned the buttons work, but don't light up when selected so it is hard to tell what buttons have been depressed. I'm hoping that isn't the case with this unit. (3) What seems to be unique about this unit is the bottom OEC radio stays installed. Trying to think through that, I assume that means it is the OEM radio volume that serves as the "master" volume for the car, rather than the volume on this unit, or am I not understanding that correctly? If the OEM bottom radio remains installed and functioning, what "mode" does it need to be in, for the new unit to operate?

    • @AC_metro
      @AC_metro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) I, too, like the factory look of this head unit. The physical buttons work fine with no lag. However, as I mentioned in another comment on this video, my physical temp down button doesn't work for the driver's side - yes, it really bothers me. I can only lower the temp for the driver's from the radio screen through the climate control app. All other physical buttons are fine except for a couple that have a little squeak to them when depressing them. I tried a little silicon spray on the worst one, but it did not help. All other buttons feel fine and are quiet.
      2) The physical buttons on both sides of the screen do not have any selection indicator lights, but the climate control buttons do. However, even though the climate control lights have an orange selection indicator, they are near impossible to see during the day. I haven't tinted my Lexus yet, just fyi. At night or early morning, I can see them okay. All physical buttons on the radio do have backlighting, but they're not as bright as the factory backlit buttons.
      3) This aftermarket head unit becomes the primary control for all infotainment functions. The OEM CD changer unit below this aftermarket radio takes a back seat to this radio. Instead of the factory radio being controlled by the OEM CD changer interface (i.e., modes such as radio, Aux, etc.), this aftermarket radio controls everything, including the CD changer. Pressing the different modes on the OEM CD changer doesn't seem to do anything.
      Some of the physical buttons on the OEM CD changer do work with certain apps. For example: when playing CDs, you can press the physical Track button to skip to the next song, or the physical Tune button to move to the next CD. However, the physical mode buttons don't really seem to do anything. You must either choose what you want to do on the radio screen OR press MODE on the steering wheel. Pressing MODE on the steering wheel cycles through the modes, but it moves fast and doesn't give you much time to view what MODE selection is currently ready to choose. So if I'm pressing MODE on the steering wheel and I'm trying to read which mode is currently listed in the cycle, it doesn't stay up long enough when you're trying to focus on driving. It then disappears and you have to start all over. If you try to cycle quickly, you end up passing the MODE you want a few times. Best just to select it on the radio screen.
      As far as the factory volume control goes, here's the issue. It is not in sync with the steering wheel volume. It seems the factory volume control knob has been relegated to a mere "GAIN" control. You have to either set your volume control knob at one point and leave it, then turn the music up/down with the steering wheel volume. OR, set your steering wheel volume at one point and leave it, then use only the factory volume control knob to turn music up/down. One or the other. Its hard to explain.
      It's not an intuitive radio, but for trying to retrofit an Android tablet into a vehicle with integrated radio and climate controls, it does work once you get the hang of it. Most friends or family members borrowing your Lexus would probably be lost with this unit.

    I almost bought this one but instead got the 10 inch without the side buttons for AC. Question: do you live in a hot climate? I live in Texas and i noticed in the summer it LAGS and crashes. So I’m wondering if it’s due to the CPU overheating during the summer months. Thanks.

Mine came with the Mark Levinson 13 speaker system / amp…wondering if it’ll have any compatibility issues with the that amp. I love the sound quality I have now and wouldn’t want it to drop in quality once I install this unit. Thanks in advance for replying to everyone! You’re such a big help!

    Btw, thanks for making this video. Love the look of this unit over all the other ones I've seen - it's also more symmetrical. I'm partial to physical hvac controls because I like to adjust them on the go. Don't really like the thought of searching for them on the screen. The screen overlay I'm not crazy about because it looks like a cheap Android device instead of a vehicle interface, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. However, I would be interested in what other vehicle style launchers are available for purchase. I think I've found the head unit I want thanks!
    Btw, I'm very versed in Android and owners of any of these Android based head units would be wise to NOT install apps that access personal information such as financial info.

      Did you ever end up getting one? I wonder if you're able to install EQ apps such as Dolby Atmos or otherwise from XDA Forums or likewise. Plus it be interesting to know if ROMs exist for these units, as there is a likely chance of head units with the same Chipset. Im just afraid to loose out on the audio quality of the original headunit as lots of these use cheap DACs and so Id love to hear your feedback!

      @@georgekallely7103 Unless you can get a passcode from the seller, you cannot install other ROM's or other root tools simply because the developer mode is locked preventing anyone from toggling USB debugging. With that said, the built in DSP is more than sufficient enough and has plenty of room for personal sound. I'm just uploading a closer look video and it may answer any questions you may have.

    • @AC_metro
      @AC_metro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I didn't have a screen in my '13 IS250. It does work plug and play, but there are no instructions and it has a mass of wires with very few labeled.
      However, if you count your pins in the many plugs that come with this radio, you'll be able to figure which plugs go where. There are only 2 plugs that can go into the same spot but they are both RCA plugs. Use the one with the most RCA connectors. All the other plugs can only fit into one female. Again count your pins because it would be possible to (force) a smaller plug into a larger female input.

    • @AC_metro

      @@MahatmaGhandiJi with RAM, always go with the most you want to spend - then get the next model up. I got the 6GB RAM / 32 GB storage model. It's always better to spend just a tad bit more and get more RAM. Storage space is user dependent, but RAM should always be the focus of any electronics - the more the better.
      As far as any issues, just look through the rest of the comments and see all the other comments I've made on this video - probably a dozen comments.
      Overall, the radio isn't intuitive, but once you get used to the aftermarket setup, it's an outstanding radio. The quirks of this radio are far outweighed by the features that this radio offers.

      @@plecebomc I, too, will be doing a comprehensive review of this radio on a different YT channel, not the one I'm commenting with.
      After having the radio for about 2 weeks, I do find it rather quirky in some respects.
      AM/FM: has 2 FM bands with a total of 36 radio presets. There is no AM that I can find. The steering wheel controls for the radio are backwards. The volume is fine, but when you want to cycle through your presets, the down button on the steering wheel makes it move forward through your presets. If you press the up button it will go backwards through your presets. It's just kinda weird. *More on this backwards movement later.
      IPOD INTERFACE: It took a long time to find a way for this radio to play my iPod nano. There's no USB interface that works with the iPod despite having 2 USB inputs. The only way I can get the iPod to play is through the 3.5 mm headphone jack. I used the 3.5mm headphone jack in the center console of the Lexus IS250. I then have to go to the pre-installed app called "Original Car." Along the bottom (3rd icon I believe) there is an icon that looks like something plugging into a square. Select that and you can now listen to your iPod through the head unit.
      CD CHANGER: It plays CDs through the CD changer but the radio interface is wonky as well. Again, you have to go to the pre-installed app called Original Car. The second icon on the bottom is a CD. Select that and you can play your CDs from the factory installed CD changer. The real wonky thing about the app called Original Car, is that you CAN'T exit out of the app until you select the "Back" button. Selecting Home or trying to swipe away the app won't work for some reason. All CD changer controls work on the steering wheel, the CD changer itself and on the screen.
      BLUETOOTH: Slow to connect and even slower to pair. However, once paired and connected, it stays connected. In order to use the BT feature and listen to music on your phone, you'll need to select the Bluetooth app icon and then along the bottom is an icon that looks like headphones around a phone. That's how you listen to music on your phone.
      CLIMATE CONTROLS: The climate control app is pre-installed on the radio - looks like a fan (depending on your theme that you use). One quirk is that as soon as you start the car, the climate control app pops up - rather odd. This happens whether your climate control is on or off from the start. You can select how long it stays up from 8, 6 or 4 seconds. You can also set it to stay on screen until you close the screen. Some of the on screen selections are backwards. For example, when I select the actual physical rear defroster button, the front windshield defroster selection lights up on the screen. Same for the actual physical button for the front windshield defroster - the rear defroster lights up on the radio screen in the Climate Control app. My physical down button for the driver temp control doesn't work - it really irks me but I can use the on screen control to lower the temperature of the climate control.
      *EXTRA MUSIC APPS: I downloaded Pandora and Sirius XM from the Play store. I have to use my mobile hotspot to get them to work but they work great. *One thing that irks me is that the steering wheel controls are backwards for the music apps. When I want to skip a song on Pandora or Sirius XM, I have to select the down button on the steering wheel instead of the up button.
      LIGHTING: The back lit buttons are pretty close in color to the factory green, but they're not as bright as the factory back lit buttons. Also the physical Climate Control button selections light up orange and are fairly easy to be seen in the dark, but impossible to see during the day. With certain on-screen climate control selections being backwards, as I previously mentioned, this can be confusing while driving and trying to make on screen climate control changes on the fly. Usually I just double tap the physical button and just be done with it. Certain physical buttons have a squeak to them, like the fan control and drive side temp control. I must also note that when driving in the dark, the screen can be pretty bright. What I do once I'm satisfied with my selection, for example the radio, I swipe down from the top and select "Screensaver". This displays a black background and a simple digital clock in the middle of the screen. Very nice touch.
      PHONE: pressing the phone button on the steering wheel will activate the phone app. It's a standard fare interface. The voice quality coming through the speakers is about a five out of 10 despite this Lexus IS 250 having the best factory sound system I've ever heard. (I managed a car audio shop years ago)
      BACK UP CAMERA: The Radio has an input for both factory and aftermarket backup cameras. I do not have a factory back up camera. My radio did not come with a backup camera despite it saying that it did. Once I installed the backup camera, the picture was gray and had several windows within the screen - I thought my radio was broken. I discovered that I needed to go into the backup camera settings and change the video output to NTSC. In order for the radio to recognize the aftermarket backup camera, the brown wire (3rd wire) on the only black plug, needs to be tapped and connected to with the after market camera power wire. Without tapping this wire the radio will not know that your reverse lights are on. I do not know how the factory backup camera would work with the system, but there is an input for a factory backup camera.
      COOL STUFF: I set a setting that allows me to press the original talk button on the steering wheel and Google will assist just like a tablet. This is really cool when I have a question or want to go to a destination without touching the screen. I absolutely love this!!!
      LIKES:
      -Factory look and fit
      -Google assistant
      -Music sounds amazing EXCEPT for CDs
      -Amazing screen
      -Basically an Android tablet in your car
      -Snappy interface and smooth performance - I have the 6GB RAM / 32 GB storage version
      -Backup camera interface
      -Customizable
      DISLIKES:
      -Proprietary Original Car app. This app is very wonky and there are many selections in the app that do not work. Unfortunately the Original Car app is needed to listen to the CD changer and any iPods or MP3 players. There are sound settings within the original car app but they do not work. For this reason, there is an obvious sound difference between music listened through the original car app than every other music app on this radio. The sound quality for CDs is just flat with no bass.
      -My temp down button ( - ) does not work on the driver's side
      -Some squeaky physical buttons
      -Back lighting not as bright as factory
      **MUST KNOW / UPDATES**
      -Google Play store must be updated along with the apps just like any other Android tablet; The Play store app is an uncertified version; The PlayStore app also recognized an app that was trying to exceed its permissions so I uninstalled that app; The radio requires a code to access Developer Options.
      -The head unit itself can be updated. I've only had it about two or three weeks and I've already updated the head unit software version twice. You need to go into SETTINGS > ABOUT and find version updates. ***IMPORTANT*** the Lexus IS will shut off accessory mode in 20 minutes. So either start your vehicle and install your updates or do the install shortly after pressing the accessory button. You do NOT want to be in the middle of the radio updating and have the car turn off. Similar things have been known to brick Android tablets - meaning make them useless as a brick; Downloading the updates will automatically continue the next time there is a data connection. So there is no need to stay in the car to finish downloading the updates. Download speeds depend on your connection - WiFi is faster than mobile hotspot.
      There's more I'll describe in my video but these are the basics that I think most users will want to interface with. I'm a few days away from installing a portable DVD player into the glove box. Once I have that done, I'll release my video review.

    • @AC_metro
      @AC_metro ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It works but with some quirks.
      You need to be in the preinstalled app called Original Car to listen to your CDs in your CD changer. Once in that app, along the bottom of the screen, you'll need to select the CD icon. I've mentioned in another comment how I do not like this app because its not intuitive, and many onscreen selections don't work or don't work right.
      The only things this app is good for is for listening to your CDs and your iPod or MP3 player. Unfortunately, you need the app in order to listen to thise things. Once you get the hang of it, you'll enjoy the radio for the most part.

    Thank you for the awesome video!!!
    One thing I’m not clear on: Does this unit support CarPlay by default (built-in), or does it require additional hardware?
    For example, my current Android unit requires a CarLinkit USB dongle/adapter to add CarPlay support. It works well enough, but the USB adapter itself loses connection to the Android AutoKit app sometimes.
    I am interested in a unit that does not require that extra physical USB adapter. I am also OK with plugging my iPhone in to the USB port for a more solid or responsive connection if that’s required, based on your explanation of the wireless CarPlay lag.

    • @my2is
      @my2is  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @pablohuwczaczi4121
      @pablohuwczaczi4121 ปีที่แล้ว

      @edps cupcake i found a new opinion on aliexpress, where a guy has mark levinson and oem navy: "Nice and bright, big screen compared to factory nav unit. Reflective, so not so great during the day. Audio is much worse than mark levinson unit i have and can not use the original amp. Camera is higher res and very nice, but pain in the a** to install if you have one from factory - had to modify it to fit original place. If you somehow connect the original one it would be low res. GPS antenna is very weak, so it's best to install it inside the center speaker on the dash(next to it, under the cover). Menus are a bit confusing in the beginning, some buttons on the steering wheel have switched functions. Instalation is easier if you don't have the factory nav unit. Android works great (i got 6gb)-very fast and no lags. Starts immediately if you don't set it to shut off. seller and support are great - asked them multiple questions and were very kind every time. Shipped extremely fast - came in 3 days for China to Bulgaria. Seller is 5 stars-highly recommend."

    • @nexus2lexus
      @nexus2lexus ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used the usb ports to connect a flash drive so I can transfer digital music to the radio.
      The GPS antenna you need for your GPS app, just like your phone needs a GPS antenna.
      The other flat piece, I believe, is for a sim card. If you have a MiFi device or a SIM card for a tablet, you can install the SIM card into this piece.
      This way, your radio has data access anytime and you can listen to the Pandora app, Sirius XM app, use Google assistant, etc. without having to turn anything else on such as a MiFi or mobile hotspot.

Reach the pick or hanger deep inside the vent and grab the thick pivot section in the middle of the sides. Pull until that side of the vent pops free then repeat on the other vent. This keeps anyone from pulling or pushing on the fragile vent slots

      Tape your wire sections together to help keep the install easier and cleaner. Count the pins on each connector and compare it to the ones on the back of the factory lower control unit.
      There will be some connectors that aren't used. Just as long as all the factory lower control unit plugs have their own connector, don't worry about the extra connectors from the Android radio. If i remember correctly, there is one plug on the back of the factory lower control unit that 2 connectors can go into - one from the car or one from the Android radio. Use the one from the car.

    2) Any seatbelt error light? I have a Canadian model 2011 IS250 AWD
    3) Is the volume of the radio and Bluetooth music the same?

    • @AC_metro

      My experience:
      1) Radio does quiet down when the Nav (Google Maps) alerts you to a turn, etc. However, you will need to mess with the settings in both the radio and Google Maps to get it just right like a factory install.
      2) No errors. The radio and its interface is only a receiver. It cannot interfere with the factory safety system.
      3) As long as your volume on your phone is up, the Bluetooth volume is the same. This goes for any BT receiver, speaker, etc.
      4) The in call speaker volume is just okay. It's not as clear or loud as the radio - I'd say 5 out of 10 for clarity. I find that when I'm on the phone, I have to turn the call volume up. When i hang up, I have to turn the volume down for the radio or it will be too loud. *IMPORTANT* I have not checked my actual phone volume when I'm in calls. *Refer to #3
      5) There is a built in microphone just to the top left of the screen, but it's not as good as the separate mic. I found that the call receiver needed me to talk loudly with the built in mic.

      Netflix app is weird. Be sure to install the Netflix apk for your region. You'll also need to install the correct Netflix apk for the version of android this unit is based on. I've been rooting and ROMing Androids for at least a decade

    Completely off topic but that rearview mirror looks great. Couple of questions…
    1) is it always digital? Or can you switch it to a normal mirror.
    2) Where does the video from the dashcam go?
    3) How has it held up? Any malfunctions bugs etc.
    4) where can I buy it?
    5) Rate your experience with having this 1-10

      Not the video uploader, but I should be able to answer your questions since I've owned something similar
      1. Turn it off and the screen reflection will act like a mirror. However, it's darker than a normal mirror since the screen is black.
      2. It should go into a SD card inserted in it. Not sure if these later ones have built-in storage or phone connectivity.
      3. I do not own this product so I can't tell.
      4. Most likely ebay motors. Very good place to shop for car parts. Check it out.
      5. Again, I do not have this product so I can't.
      Have a great day. I think I should get one too😊

      Try looking in the file manager app installed on the radio. Then look under everything that says .apk.
      Apkd folders are app folders.
