And this was 2 years before Phoenix nights. Not only did that rip off 'The Club' sketch but a lot of the cast from Phoenix Nights accused Peter Kay of not giving the cast writing credits, as a lot of it was ad libbed. It makes sense as Max and Paddy was nowhere near as funny as Phoenix Nights.
That was good.👍🏻 17.52. Bobs monologue I swear it’s a Chinese accent. I loved these guys back in t’ day. The surrealist comedy, especially coz they’re from the north and I get there references, made me laugh today and I’ll definitely be watching more of these episodes. Cheers 👍🏻

I saw it back in '99 and thought it was hit and miss. Returning to it now, my opinion hasn't changed at all. There's an 'Oh, that'll do' attitude that comes across in quite a few sketches, making it seem half-baked and slapdash. Props to Vic and Bob trying to do something different (it's certainly much darker than The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer), but I'm baffled as to why so many people seem to think this ranks among their best work.
