  • Pleasanton residents are experiencing an infestation of voles in their backyard. They tried to remove them, but a recent law prevents the use of any poison. Now, they're asking the city for help.

Equal parts of baking soda and flour mix will take care of it. It’s not poison.

Voles? voles live outside and don't bother humans or pets..
If it was rats I'd say the most effective and humane thing to do would be get a pet jack Russel dog, poison is cruel.
The question I have is why all of a sudden so many voles?
The wildlife coming in to eat them is just what would happen in nature and I'm sure that the house is built on land that was recently green land?
If you put a length of brown hemp rope in the pool fixed at either end the voles will climb out and not die in there...they probably fall in fleeing from being eaten...
I'd rather have voles than snakes, if you had a small terrier dog or jack Russel dog all rodents will divert away from the boundary of your yard..
Just have to remember that wildlife has rights too..

It sounds like they live on the edge of town and it sounds like they should get a dog that likes to hunt and also yeah, owl boxes do help. It sound pretty ignorant of them to not understand how poison goes up the food chain. It’s hard to have empathy for homeowners who have zero care for wildlife. If they did a little bit more research, they would know that there are other things they could do besides just use poison. Sounds like they’re lazy rich people.

Seems like they are complaining about the predators! That's why you aren't supposed to use poison and kill all of God's creatures. Seem like entitled snowflakes. If you want to live next to nature YOU have to adjust, not the animals. Get a terrier, it will go crazy catching them.

You are wrong. Gophers are invasive and can be found in some of the most urbanized areas around SF Bay.

Populations spike about every 5 years. Start trapping immediately when you seen small, half dollar-sized holes left open. 7 holes can become 20 in a couple of days. Most companies won’t set traps but there’s maybe one or two guys. One is me. Very difficult to get them all but some is better than none.
