After some time I remembered this video, wanted to know more about him so I tried to find it but while trying to find this video, I watched other videos of him and got distracted so I didn't get to watch it that time either. Now, after watching offline TV videos, after watching his streams, after finding the way he acted in the Fed situation etc. I knew him more and loved him more. Man, the amount of similarities in your story and mine are weird. Not the whole Asian part, but the college thing is almost identical. Learned Flash in high school, wanted to make games, went to college for CS and found I couldn't do it, switched to a 4 year general education degree. Even have the same stupid dream where I'm failing a class and I just don't care. Was actually late for work this morning because I was dreaming I had a test to fail today. Oh, and I learned magic in high school. Not really for the social aspect but just because I wanted to haha. Thanks for telling your story Toast!

Man, I'm 2 years older than you, but I have lived in kingston ontario all my life, crazy shock in the middle realizing we grew up in the same city. I might've met you, i probably know people who knew you as a kid, we may have gone to the same highschool. Crazy.
I also have that reoccurring nightmare too. Failing class. Some of it is imaginary, others post traumatic stress - -'. Happy to hear your story and it's inspiring.
he said “people in malaysia speaks.. malaysian” malaySIAN so i highly doubt he mingled with the local much. went to international schools too so he probably lived in an expat bubble.
7:30 In polish we also use word rubber (it's more like tiny rubber) to descibe that thing (eraser) literally in polish a word *gumka* which means eraser translates into tiny rubber
6:40 Regarding the 12 inches to a foot, that has to do with how imperial units were made with division into halves, thirds, and quarters in mind. American units are based around the number 12, whereas SI units are based off the number 10 (which is troublesome to divide by 3). Canadian construction workers sometimes use American units because sometimes you do need to think in terms of "I need to use a third or a quarter of materials" as opposed to "I need to scale up or down by an order of magnitude". Also notice that time measurements are based around the numbers 12 and 60 (which allows division by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6).
The vlog of Godzilla was pretty fun. Its my first time watching this and I gotta say thank you for sharing your story, you have been through a lot and still achieve suscess, im happy for you, keep it up and go beyound! :)
When he started talking about learning magic tricks to socialize, him going to UWaterloo suddenly made a lot of sense. That's the majority of the Math and Engineering faculties.
7:40 now I can't stop imagining toast asking someone for an eraser like " hey I made a mistake and didn't have rubber, do u got one I can borrow" and just being looked at as a response
20:30 same dude!!! I’ve graduated this year (thankfully) and I’ve already had that same dream/nightmare twice. And the day after, you feel soooo burned out as if I went through it again It’s so weird because every time feels so real
Honestly I started crying when Toast was talking about his university experience because I can relate SO MUCH. I just finished my first year at the same uni: University of Waterloo and I failed a course (but performed well on the other 9 courses this year), and this was because I failed the final because I had a splitting headache and cramps and the course had a rule where if u fail the final u fail the course even tho I had a 90 average in the course before the final. I don’t think I can continue the next 3 years in the program that I’m in so I have to decide if I want to settle for a three year degree instead and then move to a different uni to pursue my dream career of teaching in high school. I’m scared of what’s to come and I don’t know what to do
You can do it, teachers college isn’t hard to get into in Canada. And they look at your best grades for your teachables anyway. Just make sure that you have enough courses for at least TWO subjects that you can teach. Because most teachers colleges require 2 teachables (meaning 2 subjects to reach). And you just need 70% minimum in your required courses for teachers college. But obviously higher grades make you more competitive but teachers college isn’t hard to get into. What will help your application if you have lower grades (must be above 70% cutoff tho) is to have a strong supplementary application!! This means you must do volunteer work or jobs where you work with kids and high schoolers! You can ask your high school teachers to volunteer during their classes. You can tutor students in a subject for cheap and keep a log of it + their contact info. I don’t attend Waterloo but I think Waterloo probably has those facilitated support learning groups where upper years will run in person sessions (or online via zoom) where they lead help sessions. It’s really easy though because you don’t actually teach the first years, you just give them sample questions and guide them through it so they can do it by themselves. You can also volunteer or work at summer or day camps where you are around kids in a leadership position. And I believe there’s online volunteer tutor programs in Ontario that you can google. If you volunteer a lot and have relevant work experience then you will have no trouble getting in!! And who cares if you failed the final just retake the course but MAKE sure the average of the two courses is over 70%. But Honestly even if it’s not a 70%, all hope is not lost. Because for example, if you want to teach high school biology - they can just look at your best 12 biology courses. So there’s always time to improve with your upper year courses.
Late to the party, but so proud of Toast. So much of his story is similar to people I know and aspects of growing up myself. But I am glad he had the bravery to make a career for himself and not just follow along to the typical options provided by school and what people tell you life is about.

After finding about him through among us, I started watching him more and more and I remember this video was recommended to me when I first started watching his videos. Something came up and I couldn't watch it that time. So I'm really glad that I watched this now, the timing made this really special to me. You are a precious human being Toast, I am really happy that I found about you, I think you are amazing, love you a lot!
Wow! I just understand after watch this videoo, its explain why your mandarin is so goood!! You grow up in penang.. i thought you grow up in north america before, so i got confused why your mandarin's pronouncation is so good! A lot of asian here (the one who born in China and grow up in another part of asia) didn't understand mandarin anymore. Glad you make 'draw my life' video!
That was really nice getting to know you better like this. I feel warm and fuzzy inside :D
The recurring nightmare part got me, I myself cannot get over failing to open the biology book for at least a second
I had nightmares of being late to school or exam after I finished graduating elementary.
I do not look forward to high school graduation :|
So because of growing up in many different countries toast had to learn many different types of English?
Including his BRITISH ACCENT
@@fuvet Lmao
Theres only one type of english? His teachers just had different accents so he pronounced some words with a British/Australian/American accent. Also spelling would be hard because American teachers would tell you to spell colour as “color” and everyone else would tell you that it’s spelt colour
@@Neon-ws8er still English, but different groups of people use different accents and much different vocabulary. I would argue that you could call them different types of english
@@Neon-ws8er i think more than just the accents and pronunciation there’s also like the rubber eraser thing possibly what the person was talking about.
“now i wasn’t a mistake, i was a happy accident” that’s what i have to tell myself every day too 🥲
Americans: three
Toast: tree
English people: free
11:35 moms are great, and we don't understand their love in a young age and that sucks.
"Idiot, Malaysia's not a country." -Michael
The one thing that made me feel better after his mom story was the chat...
POGCHAMP MOM
4:54 Malaysia's signature language is Malaysian
I lost it
Seeing Toast draw this himself makes me so happy. I know it's cool to have an artist do the Draw my life video but Toast doing it made me feel more connected to him somehow. Love this guy❤
Man, I'm 2 years older than you, but I have lived in kingston ontario all my life, crazy shock in the middle realizing we grew up in the same city. I might've met you, i probably know people who knew you as a kid, we may have gone to the same highschool. Crazy.
Same here. I always thought he looked familiar.
This is one of the only draw my life’s that I have been genuinely interested in and watched all the way thru🍞
8:40 as a french canadian for me too that number is one of the hardest I can pronounce in english not just asian related I think
23:50 when you realize Toast predicted Rise of Shadows (the tongue is an eye)
But this video was made after the release of Rise of Shadows :/
@@evo683 yes but this stream was from like 4 months ago
I also have that reoccurring nightmare too. Failing class. Some of it is imaginary, others post traumatic stress - -'. Happy to hear your story and it's inspiring.
Omg I didn’t know Toast lived in Malaysia. I wonder if he knows even a little bit of Malay..
Or understand the language it would be better
he said “people in malaysia speaks.. malaysian” malaySIAN so i highly doubt he mingled with the local much.
went to international schools too so he probably lived in an expat bubble.
7:30
In polish we also use word rubber (it's more like tiny rubber) to descibe that thing (eraser)
literally in polish a word *gumka* which means eraser translates into tiny rubber
I feel special understanding toast
Dam someone went to school
The vlog of Godzilla was pretty fun. Its my first time watching this and I gotta say thank you for sharing your story, you have been through a lot and still achieve suscess, im happy for you, keep it up and go beyound! :)
“this is america ‘aych’ in my area” 😂🤦🏻♂️
As a Taiwanese myself it’s freakin amazing to watch you and see your story
Why? Are Taiwanese people known for failing? Or are you Taiwanese and have failed but blame it on your race?
Fiche Chips uhhh who said anything about failing?
@@Marethewz Why is being Taiwanese yourself even related to your enjoyment of watching his story is the point...
Fiche Chips well that’s not what your previous comment was about lol, you were straight up insulting me or the Taiwanese people
Fiche Chips and it’s because Toast is also Taiwanese that I feel joy
It’s like seeing a famous person and knowing he’s from your country
When he started talking about learning magic tricks to socialize, him going to UWaterloo suddenly made a lot of sense. That's the majority of the Math and Engineering faculties.
At 4:45 someone in chat said “stop speaking anime”
7:40 now I can't stop imagining toast asking someone for an eraser like " hey I made a mistake and didn't have rubber, do u got one I can borrow" and just being looked at as a response
the beginning makes me realise how much i miss hanging out with friends lmao
20:30 same dude!!! I’ve graduated this year (thankfully) and I’ve already had that same dream/nightmare twice. And the day after, you feel soooo burned out as if I went through it again
It’s so weird because every time feels so real
I am a Malaysian here..... Never thought you lived here before.... I can prove that the eraser story is true... I'm still calling it rubber....
I’m scared of what’s to come and I don’t know what to do
I hope you'll get through it. Be strong!
Is toasts old videos getting recommended now cos TH-cam doesn’t want to give him anymore money for among us
No
firstly i did not liked poki but now i know how she admire her good friends
I cried at 11:32 love u toast u my favorite streamer
Late to the party, but so proud of Toast. So much of his story is similar to people I know and aspects of growing up myself. But I am glad he had the bravery to make a career for himself and not just follow along to the typical options provided by school and what people tell you life is about.
Proud to say that i have been your fan since Hearthstone.
Toast.. I wanted to say I am also having the same dreams sometime. I got the same degree in loo graduated in 2013. Been a fan of you since HS times, I only know you and amaz were in the same school made me felt like we are really close. Anyway, after my graduation I flew back to Hong Kong and now working in one of the biggest bank in the world as a team lead. If I could ever go back in time and tell myself, everything will be just fine, and even better than you expected. (Almost cried btw, thank you toast, somehow such a random relief after like 7 years.. by one of my fav streamers, big thx!)
this could be the redemption for HBO
