She can sing; just because she doesn’t sound like Beyoncé doesn’t mean she can’t sing there’s different voices for a reason; I’m hoping she gets the confidence needed because she is talented

LeToya Luckett may be the only person to ever get kicked out of an extremely successful group & go on to have a #1 album, sell a million records, have a hit song, another top 20 album, and have great success as an actress. She isn’t just talented; she’s the definition of a survivor.

In the words of Julia Robert's character in "Pretty Woman";; "When people start to tear u down enough, u'll believe it." LaToya is a force to be reckoned with. She has a natural voice; it doesn't feel forced or pre-recorded. The more she starts to believe in herself again, the confidence with start to return. I wish her nothing but the best. I'll say this: It's easy to become an icon if everybody is clearing your path and supporting you the whole way. To establish your own path in the aftermath of a very public breakup shows what Letoya is truly made of. I keep hearing her say she struggles with confidence. Her whole career screams confidence. To step out of the shadow of DC and Beyonce and stand unapologetically in your own multi-faceted talent and truth is truly remarkable. I am a fan. I am also a Houstonian. If you're from Houston, you know how to call a thing a thing. Yes, Beyonce is talented. LeToya is beyond talented. She is an inspiration to anyone who has faced rejection and kept going anyway. I can relate on a smaller scale. I was a singer. I went to performing arts schools all my life, auditioned and got in every time.
When people are constantly telling you to “sing like this”, “sing this, not that”, “you should be singing this kind of music”. And you’re getting it from every angle, the adults in your life, teachers, the other kids. It dampens your passion. My passion was GONE by the time I was 18. Now i only sing for my close friends and family.

Oh God, as someone who was a choral singer from 2nd grade all the way till college, I GET IT. I can sing, but I can't SANG. And that's ok, we're not all meant to.
The amount of times you get singled out and corrected tho😑... and it doesn't come from a bad place, but that doesn't mean it isn't sometimes embarrassing or hurtful. Even more so when you're really trying and still not quite getting it.
We were high school students competing with college students cuz my teacher pushed us THAT hard. But Jfc were we GOOD lol
One day I realized it was about more than just my vocal ability. I can read music... that's an accomplishment! I know how to count my notes, I know how to site read, I know how to count sing, I can listen to a song a few times and not only pick out my part (2nd soprano/ 1st alto. I used to be a 1st soprano), I learn the words very quickly.

It did humble her which was great for her craft development, but I think what she was saying (and a lot of the other members have spoken about) is that she felt like she was being told and treated like she wasn’t as talented or had no talent. They used Beyoncé as the standard of what a good singer was and anyone who didn’t sound like her or could do the things that she could with her voice weren’t as talented. When any singer will tell you ppls voices are built different and not everyone starts on the same starting point, some ppl are just more naturally gifted singers or learn faster or have put in more hours of training, that’s why it’s not fair to compare. Because by breaking someone’s self esteem you guarantee that they’ll never reach their fullest potential, because they’ll stop trying all together. And that’s where the anxiety and depression comes in. No one wants to be mediocre, but a voice like Whitney or Aretha or whomever isn’t just an overnight thing. It takes years!!! Of dedication and consistency. Singing is the epitome of trusting the process.

@Elize Kelly yes Beyonce said in an interview that when they finally got Michelle she was happy bc now everyone could sing. Implying that the ones before couldn't. Yall don't sit here and act like Beyonce wasn't a mean girl back in the day. Glad she grew out of that. I think her dad made her a mean girl probably would say bitchy stuff to her behind the other girls back. She was brainwashed by him back in the day

I felt what Latoya was saying 💯 Anyone who’s a vocalist can understand what she’s talking about. Comparison and lack of confidence in your voice are things you really have to work on, because it will give you anxiety and make you feel defeated. Everyone’s voices are different. Some ppl are belters, some are good at their head voice, some their chest voice and then there’s those who are solid all the way around. Don’t compare yourself to others in anything, comparison is the stealer of joy. And NEVER ever let ppl make you doubt yourself. Hold on to your confidence!! All the members in Destiny’s Child talk about how their confidence was diminished while being in the group. Not because Beyoncé was talented, but because they were being told and treated like they weren’t talented.

It’s crazy how I stumbled upon this comment and the reply …it’s something how I stumbled upon the video itself. I haven’t sang in years due to the lack of confidence experienced from others even family members ..the comparisons can be critical without them even knowing the damage they are doing and the negative seeds they are planting. I’ll be 42 Nov 15th and still haven’t gained my confidence back. This was really encouraging understanding that I am not the only one who’s experienced this. Ty for sharing your thoughts . This response was really good ❤

@@angelamarie222 I’m so sorry to hear that. I encourage you to keep singing!!. Your voice is a gift from God, and there’s purpose behind it. As a vocalist one thing that’s helped me a lot with my confidence and comparison is taking away the pressure of trying to be the best or a legend. You don’t have to be Whitney or Mariah to be a good singer, you don’t have to strive to be legendary. As long as your progressing everyday and love what you do that’s good enough. Comparing yourself to legends or trying to be the next best thing is soo tiring and will cause you to look at others to compare where you’re at. But focusing solely on how your voice compares to only your voice, I guarantee you’ll see how much you love your voice and wouldn’t change it for some else’s.

I love how much they've all grown from the acrimony of their youth. Letoya's saying those commendable things about Beyoncé in her interview just goes to show how much they've matured from the teenagers who bitterly split to adult women who've forgiven each other. I love this for them. ♥

Letoya has a beautiful voice. I always felt Michelle was her replacement based on looks and voice. Letoya tone is just more brighter then Michelle’s but they both can sing. I just wanna say, all singers don’t have to sound the same to be able to singer. That’s why in choirs you have different sections. Beyoncé don’t sound like Mariah, does that mean Beyoncé can’t sing? Mariah don’t sound like Whitney? Does that mean Mariah can’t sing? We should celebrate different singers for their ability and not be quick to compare. All the women I’ve said on here can sing and have different voices and different skill set.

I seen several interviews where Beyoncé said something to the effect of “Now we ALL can sing lead” after LeToya left the group. That shows the attitude of her which she probably inherited from her father who made her feel like she was better than the other members because he managed the group. Had all the girls been treated equally from the very beginning, the outcome of all of their careers would’ve been different. I can only imagine how stressful it must’ve been being in that group. Everything was designed for her to succeed and only her. Everyone else had to kiss her and her family’s ass. Unbelievable. And we’ll never truly know what went on in the group because a lot of them are afraid of the backlash they’ll receive.

Did you watch all of that interview... You're taking what Beyonce said out of context.... Let me educate you on what was actually said. Beyonce said that earlier in the group because she had the stronger voice her father and the label wanted her to sing lead. She also talks about how miserable she was because when everybody else was chilling out and going to the movies she had to be in the studio singing and practicing because she was the lead singer. She then went on to say that when the group had years in the business and had gained a lot of commercial success everyone was finally able to sing lead because basically they had made it. What she said had nothing to do with LeToya specifically.
