I just got my SL2 and I love it!
I got mine and I am starting out into the photography field as a hobby ... and to tell you the truth about it ... I DIG IT ALOT ... ITS GREAT specially as a beginner and its small and light weight too I enjoy it so much

i just bought the SL-2. It was this or the Nikon D5600. This one was just so much more camera. Yes, the Dual Pixel AF is great. I hope to start putting up content on TH-cam soon as this is the vlogger's Camera. Great job here.
What an informative review! I am definitely interested in picking up this camera! I'm currently using the Sony RX100 but the lack of a mic input is bumming me out. It's great for vlogging, but I think I can step up my game a little with this little gem. Thank you so much!

when Andrew told you the SL2 was worth trying out, you laughed... I knew you were thinking, "how could a guy with that higher-end camera think that the SL2 was worth a try?". Well I've just ordered one, and I'm quite encouraged by how the image looks in your footage taken by the SL2.
Totally agree! The sensor is actually really good and the usability of the camera is awesome. A true traveling camera.

This is a really great camera. I just picked one up yesterday in the kit form and also got a Rode Video Mic for it. The only 2 drawbacks are that the mic cable interferes with rotating the screen and that the SD card is on the bottom. I primarily leave it setup to record my YT videos, which means I have to remove it from the tripod to get the SD card out
Totally! That's why I still prefer my 80D instead! The SL2 makes a great portable camera for when you need to travel light!

I just bought the SL2 w/kit lens + Pro-100 printer bundle for $750, which comes to $400 after the $350 MIR for my 8 year old daughter.
I think she’ll love it as it’s much smaller and lighter than my 80D that she’s currently borrowing.

I bought the bundle from Focus Camera. It arrived 4 days after order and they mail the invoice separately which you'll need for the MIR, which Canon sends in the form of an AmEx prepaid card about 2 months after submission.
This is the third printer bundle rebate I've purchased for Canon gear. 😁

Great review. You really put this through its paces in real life situations. This is going to be my first DSLR as a result. I’ll be doing some vlogging and other video for my channel and also taking pics. Question: in addition to the kit lens that is included, is there one additional lens you would recommend getting with the camera as I slowly build up my equipment. Can’t believe you only have 1k subs by the way; that will change very very soon.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it. For vlog, the best lens to pair with the SL2 would be the 10-18STM. For the sit down interview style shots, get the 24mm f2.8 STM pancake. Those two lenses are all you need to start a youtube channel. If you need something with a little more zoom range then the 18-135STM is really great too.
still relevant. last week, i used it on a paid gig as the "a cam" due to the wonderful dual pixel af. footage was clean. interviewee looked great and was in FOCUS! shot duel sound to a zoom f4 and then back to the sl2's audio in. this way i have two pro mics (boom and lav), access to a headphone jack to monitor and i employed the safety track as a backup. less than $400 during the holiday sale. i'm pleased.
Agreed! A great lens makes all the difference. Long ago I put my first L lens (Canon's original 24-70mm) on my Xsi. Yowser! I was hooked.

I’m just trying to learn all I can. My primary goal is to make better videos for family events. I currently use Canon g7x. There are alot of videos out there about gear but not much about how to make better videos.

Got mine 30 minutes ago. Small, light and many functions. Too soon to judge but feel really cheap compared to my old DSLR's. Buttons are in very different places. Lot's of plastic, but Fiberglas reinforced and the buttons feel a bit spongy. I am not sure how strong these are, but I am a big fan of Canon. At the end of the day, it is about the insides and what it can do.
i used it for a year now and its still in perfect condition soo it may be plastic and stuff but its durable !

I have been into photography since 1964 shooting with all types of cameras, lenses and film. Moved into video in 1992 then digital Canon and Sony in 1998 as a published digital photog in 1998. My prediction was that eventual video cams would take over analog AND digital still work. I traded my 40D for a Canon M50 - and have been super disappointed. I sent the M50 back to Canon and replaced it with a Canon SL2 believe it or not. That gear with a Tamron 18-400 is a delight. Whether amateur or Pro - it is hard to argue the difference in capability and quality with more expensive cameras. Whether vblogger or garage shooter - this is all I need to spend to get quality images and MP4 video segments.

Love the review ! I used to think M lenses were limited , but using M cameras with adapters opens up M native, Ef-s and Ef lens adaptability... more options actually
Stupid point or question: when you had the 1,700 lens on it, why didn't you demonstrate it? I'm dubious about buying an expensive body, even though I loved what I saw of the a6500. I love going "Ooooo..." whenever you use it. But in 2 years or less, it will be a 1,000 doorstop. The video blew me away just in 1080. LOVED it's low light capacity. But there goes another grand for the lens...that you'd have to adapt if you switched out later. :( I have nothing now, so I can go either way. I'd like lots of options. Not with Sony, sounds like

Review was greate, kinda wish there was a little more focus on the video and getting to see what it looked like in more lightings, like see its best. and also maybe a label on screen of it saying when it's through the SL2 cause i couldn't tell if it was 2 cameras or 2 SL2's during the video testing haha
