    While you certainly have to trim away a fair amount of the internal plastic to make the battery fit within the Ally, I think you made an error in snipping off that plastic square directly to the right of the memory module. It was unnecessary as the battery would still fit if you'd left it untouched. In fact, the raised elevation of that plastic would have helped in ensuring the battery does not come into contact with the ram. I suggest you compensate for that by placing 2 pieces of double sided tape of 4mm thickness to the left and lower right of the ram to help maintain a gap between the battery and the ram.

    This is the first video i have seen where you dont have to rewire the connector and stack the batterys. I will be doing this too. Good video.

      @hartomethod I have a steam deck oled as well, and that has good battery life for a pc handheld. How does the battery stack up to the oled in your opinion?

    The thing is, with some of the games I play, for the amount of time that I play them, I have to leave my Rog plugged in anyway. The Rog's power cable is just long enough, with a power adapter, to stretch from the wall outlet, to my bed, so that I can game on my bed at night. Working on Handheld PC's with this formfactor though, that's the future of Custom PC building. I seriously wouldn't be surprised if Handheld PC's didn't kill of Desktop Gaming PC's at some point in the future, once mobile GPU's and APU's get as powerful as mid range, independent GPU's. I will also say that the Rog is so much easier to mod than the Steam Deck, much easier. Your a braver man than I am though. While I have added a 4TB NVME to my own Rog, I wouldn't dream of messing around with the battery. Far as the outlets are concerned, I would imagine that it's possible to buy a USB C power bank that will charge the device. I know that I had one that worked on my Steam Deck, 5,000Mah (ish), but I also know that it won't fully charge this device, because of the difference in wattages. With all this said, I have not played a game on my Desk Top PC since the 64GB Steam Deck came out.

      I know quite a few people that have their ally docked for 90% of the usage. I personally have it docked to a 48inch smart 4k tv and play only on the tv. If i take it anywhere, I'm looking through stores for game sales or trying to get something working right.

    • @cadderley100
      @cadderley100 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Hydemaintenanceman How does the Rog perform on a large TV like that, both when it comes to productivity tasks and gaming? The reason why I am asking, is because I need a 2nd new PC this year. My desktop is starting to fail. The choice is between repairing my PC, which will cost about £300, buying a 2nd Rog, which will cost about £450, or buying an entirely new PC, with completely up to date guts, which will cost about £700. I am trying to decide which option represents the best deal. Even though I have one Rog now, I am considering getting a 2nd Rog, with a Dock, which has NVME support, and a USB C Adapter for 2 2280 NVME's, for a total of 3 2280 4TB NVME's simultaneously connected to the Rog, aand using the setup as a productivity / gaming system, and multimedia storage system. At that point, it will have access to 16GB of space, if I put a 4TB 2280 NVME in each available drive bay. I honestly don't know which option to take. Adding 3 4TB NVME's will add an additional £600 to the Rog.

      @cadderley100 that is a question that is only answerable by another question...
      What kind of performance are you hoping for?
      Im running the original ssd with a 2tb ssd with Heatsink. An external dual fan dock running on its own power for added cooling (a must or overheat) and extra power output charging random things. The ally is connected directly to a J5create model jcd3198 dual 4k dock. The power is a J5create 185w gan charger. My tv is a Hisense 43r6e with basic 4k 60. Smart tv on the lower end of smart lol.
      Gaming: runs most games at 1440p, 26-55fps with low settings. The tv doesn't like the lower resolution much and can strain the pc a bit if using afmf and trying to push 720p at maximum settings with supersampling at native. It isn't native because the tv won't reduce to match signal, and there lies my problem, and the question. what tv will you use with what dock with what settings?
      It can be great for most pc needs, but requires figuring out what setup works for the ally, and in return, works for you. Most times I don't remember I'm on a pc while gaming. Can I run Java scripts and do windows stuff while having a little light gaming in between? Yes. Does it meet the minimum requirements? Yes but barely 😅.
      I would suggest modification to the case and cooling system if you plan on using as a dedicated pc. I would forget that it has built in controls and get a wireless mouse, keyboard( fosmon small wireless one) and an Xbox one controller. Keep it in desktop mode. Only use the stock controls if need. Have mostly everything set to start after startup and only if you open it yourself, do to the system having armory crate, windows and so much more booting at the same time(might be able to change that) causing a slow start and system errors like screen cooler inversion. I would suggest getting what you can afford for what you plan on doing. If you want something that is powerful and small and don't mind a bit of modding, then I'd say get another ally. I've had my ally for over a year running 4k and 1080p with minimum problems other than an occasional 75c-98c temperature spikes.

      @cadderley100 the only problem with the Z1E, 16gb memory...
      Really drags the system down until you figure out the proper system settings and system memory configurations.
