The reason we made this video (again) is because people still constantly ask me this question. Hopefully this is a more complete answer, obviously there will be people with different experiences, also we're in Canada so our prices for everything are different. No manufacturer makes a perfect truck, that's why we build our own.
What gets me are the die hard ford fans, even after they spend alot of money fixing problems like there spark plugs or exhaust manifold studs. They just dont get it. If they had a GM they would not spend as much money.
Huh I thought exhaust manifold bolts snapping was a gm thing, but the spark plug stuff is very true a ford thing but only on the Triton engines anything above 2010 is just a pain in the but to work on unless u have all the diagnostic computers
I loved my triton 5.4!!!! Every time my dad would refuse to go oustide and play catch with me i could always count on it to throw me a spark plug or two.
Martin Taylor I wouldn't ever want to buy a top trim level vehicle. All those components fail eventually and cost a small fortune to replace. Plus everything that has to be removed to replace the parts!
You ain't liein my wife and I owned an 04 dodge grand caravan with power sliding doors and power lift gate. DID NOT USE THE POWERED OPTION. I didn't want to work on or replace the motors. We just bought a '12 grand Caravan with the power sliding doors STILL don't use the power option because of that. Just more shit to break.i also own a 95 f250 with the 351w and do all the work on both vehicles myself.
@@pontiacGXPfan somewhat, I have to Chrysler credit for their engineering back in the 30's to the mid 70's. They were 30 years ahead of the others just in intake pulses (talking about the ram intakes). It wasn't until the 80's that everyone of the other manufacturers decided to start tuning their intakes (which is what a ram intake is).
I lost a friend because that.. I swapped my 5.3 engine by my self...bo big deal...and my friend thought I was a mechanic because that...than he asked me to swap his 2002 1f50 ...the one the blows spark plugs and I said...take it to a shop buddy...he hasn't call me ever since...I decided to block his number just in case
blueoval250 yes a far statement and also more patience to replace those rear main oil seals shortly after their pre delivery inspection. That was a good one (90-94 explorers and aerostars).
@@mlez7197 u should of explained to him u couldnt even if u wanted to due to the specialty tools of it being a different brand instead of saying take it to a shop buddy LOOOOL that sounds hella rude to talk to a friend like that u probably came off wrong ya dummy
I worked at Ford years ago, they would expect us to put tires on expensive rims with a broken tire machine. And old ladies on a budget we're the target for upsells.
Got a company vehicle F-150 company bought it brand new 2018 since day one motor has a ticking noise like valve dash start warping took it to the dealer haven't heard anything from them yet! Pos!......
When I was going to buy my first truck, I put a lot of time and research into it. I talked to owners of various trucks, researched complaints online, looked at recalls, resell value, etc. This was a several month process. At the end of the day, I ended up with a ranking system based on reliability (this was for the 2015 model year). First was the Tundra followed by Silverado, with the F-150 and Ram very close (Ram coming in at 4). This was not based on the diesel models, just the gas. I ended up with a Toyota Tundra. I have 140k miles on it with zero issues. I do my own maintenance and plan on owning that thing until it falls apart. For comparison, my former boss just traded in his F-150 that had a little over 100k miles on it. His oil pump had just gone bad, and there were other things going wrong where they were going to have to pull the motor. When riding in it, the truck felt like it hadn't aged well. My Tundra drives like the day I got it. Everything is tight, no leaks, and the interior is holding up great.
the electronics will fail you long before the mechanical stuff will. sell it and get something with no computers, something that would run after an EMP went off. those are the best trucks right there.
I remember working on V8 engines in the 70s and 80s. There was enough room for a family of four under the hood. Now any vehicle today you have to completely disassemble it to replace a five dollar part.
Yeah, I've worked in some older stuff that has too much room, to the point where you almost have to climb in to work on stuff. A lot better than too little room, but still fairly annoying.
2014 Ford Explorer. Internal water pump that runs off timing chain, so when my water pump failed spectacularly (totally seized) it dumped all the coolant right into the crank case; hydrolock = motor destroyed. Dealer stated "I won't say its a design flaw, but when the water pump completely fails, you have no chance to save it." $8400 US for new motor.
Let me guess, a 3.5l V6? The one in my 2009 Flex did that. Rapid coolant loss and luckily we got it shut down before it caused serious problems. But the next oil change after the water pump was replaced, found water in the oil. Buh bye Flex. Traded that thing in before it ate its bearings and threw a CEL from the head gaskets that were likely blown. And you know Ford knows about this issue, because the F150 that gets the 3.7l version of that same V6, has an external water pump. You can change the F150's waterpump in a couple hours. The inboard waterpump on the same motor in the Flex, is an 11 hour job by the book.
Two of the most stupid design flaws I have seen, internal water pump and two thread spark plug holes. I wish I could get paid to be such a screw up. I would be a billionaire by now!
I myself am obviously a Ford fan, that being said i have a lot of respect for how knowledgeable and capable you are and can totally understand why you wouldnt like any of the newer vehicles. However, just like you said in the end of this video it is not to the point where most manufactures are this way so you cant really avoid it anymore. Great video. Love the channel. I always learn a ton and find it very interesting
Agreed, it's part of the corporate plan to own the parts companies that are selling your replacement parts- like deBoss said, instead of replacing a 35$ driveshaft bearing, Ford's welded it on the $500 driveshaft assembly, which must be replaced as a Unit . Winner- Ford+( the parts Co it owns) Looser -You, forced to cough up the extra $$ to fix a built-in flaw. Who's the smart one now ?
Stephen DeHart I went to a HD dealer like a dummy to get a fuel Petcock to adapt to my Gravely lawn tractor tank. Ho Lee F**! A BMW one was way less and worked better.
@@aaronhumphrey2009 difference is parts are marked up a ton so they aren't losing any money there. and with the people that buy the $1800 ones from them, they're doin alright. Parts markup is ridiculous. Shops charge you list price on parts. and look what they pay for it. It's crazy they make so much on a part you just paid them $80 or more per hour to install that also was delivered witihin a couple hours!! not a bad deal there lol
He’s spot on with everything he says. I have a 2013 f150 with a 3.5 eco boost. It’s surprisingly not over complicated. The truck seems to be somewhat easy to work on but a lot of what you’d think is a part that should be easily available is something even a dealership has to order
The 3.5 and 2.7 ecoboost have a lot of aftermarket support. And fun fact the 2.7 qnd 3.5 block is made up of the same casting material as the 6.7 powerstroke engine. But all in all i think hes talking about the triton era because the 5.0 and the ecoboost lineup are pretty reliable in my experience.
@@tylergano1246 yeah ive seen 3.5s make north of 650 crank hp and the 2.7 make north of 580hp on e85 and meth injection. Anything more like bigger turbos and more boost youll want to build the trans and motor for sure, its still a v6 lol.
New trucks suck ass now a days, Ford, GM, Dodge it don't matter they all suck in their own way. Square body F250 / K/20. The gold standard of a era were trucks just worked.
Me too i have 14 and will buy another one blown engines and all..you look on the road and see which are the work trucks you may see a Toyota or a ram at a jobsite but not loaded up hauling a trailer with cement or pavers/scaffolding as for Ram pulling cars down the road..these guys have to $pend mega bucks to haul..i think that most remove the beds because it to heavy with the cars..just saying i just cut in a 5th wheel hitch and hookup and roll..i have 3- 6.0 and have only replaced injectors oil changes ever 6k miles..of course egr delete

@Youll Never Know none believe it or not i was always worried about the plugs in the 5.4 and the head bolts in the 6.0..but none of my truck's had those issues the 6.0 was the egr & oil coolers & the 5.4 with 400k original transmission the shitty roller/fake rocker bearing didnt even blow the piston just stopped bought a used 5.4 for $800.00 changed all gaskets add $250 & 2 days later on the road and gas mileage is now 15mpg..crazy i was getting 10..i also have 2 more f150 98' 00' i usually buy them new and do PM'S myself regularly..believe me Toyotas and Nissans are really nice looking trucks but if they are on a jobsite those guys that own them are either the boss the owners or guys that parkk them way down the street so they dont get any dirt on them..i think they wax the rubber..they get almost undressed to drive the home..i dont call that a truck..now i like Internationals but not a daily driver and if i was over the road id get a freightliner but as for WORK TRUCKS ITS FORD ALL THE WAY ! & My kids drive them as well..probably because i bought them..rams have terrible turning radius & GMC's fall apart now I've owned a 2007 Escalade ESV AWD with 20" best ride ever also 2 mini coppers also BMW full Service was the best..but when they put some sort of traction controls they ruined it it counter steered the car h it was out of my control anyway..we also have a LEXUS and i guess if your an old fart that doesn't drive it works but not for us im fixin that pos feels like daily it has 67k miles and the dealership just wants to screw me..hoping i can get lemon law if that still exists
Ford guy as well here - being that his biggest points were how shit the 5.4, 6.0, & 6.4 are, I'd also agree. My '93 with a 302 has given me no big issues other than stuff that happens to any 27/8 year old truck, and my 2014 5.0 hasn't given me any issues at all.
I had a good one at work..( I work at a municipal fleet shop) 2010 F450.. right tail light was out.. turns out it was the BCM not sending a signal.. replaced the BCM, no core charge so it got thrown out.. then the truck wouldn't start!! Found out that the TRUCK needs to be programmed to the BCM (NOT the other way around!) Ended up having to flat bed the truck to the dealer to get the TRUCK reflashed.. all for a tail light!
This is common in all products these days. Corporate greed is killing us! I find all kinds of products at the curb on trash night that usually only need one part to work again, but that part+labor costs more than a new product. Being able to fabricate my own parts, I save a bundle. I took a picture of at least a dozen things I found in the trash that I fixed and totalled up their value. I spent a total of fifty dollars fixing what would have cost me at least 700-900 dollars worth of common household items like shop vacs and power washers.
Even the radios are subsidy locked. You can't go get a junkyard Sync module and radio from another vehicle and just plug it in. You need to take it to the dealer so they can activate it and charge you 2 hours shop time for a 15 minute job. Then every time the van goes to the dealer, they end up resetting it out of the system with the factory As-Built file, then want to charge you extra for screwing up something you already paid to have done during your last visit. I go through this nut-roll every time I take my van in for recall work. Usually takes about twenty minutes of bitching at the service manager to get the DPF monitor, Sync mod, and trailer mod all turned back on. Ford hates it when you find ways around their bullshit. If you ever run into this problem again, check out a program called Forscan. It's like ten bucks a year and does damn near everything that IDS will do.
You sir are amazing. You're videos are so organic seems more like a day in the life then a scripted video. You seem like a great dude keep up the videos !
Nearly 20 years later and I can still hear the ticking sound of an exhaust leak on dad 1996 F-150 and the whining power steering pump in the cold Alberta winter.
Square body Fords were great looking trucks. I think the 4.9, 5.0, and 5.8 weren't as good as some people swear. The difference is, those trucks could break and chances are you would make it back home. The new trucks break without warning and leaves you stranded.
The reason they whine is because people put power steering fluid in them, and they are made to run ATF fluid. I have had two Fords over 250k miles and neither had that whine. Don't blame Ford for people not reading their manuals. :) And yes my 4.9 had 365,000 miles on it when I sent it off to the J/Y due to rust issues.
I was a partner in a shop back home in CO. Our strict policy was never take in any post-2000 model year F-series Ford trucks for anything whatsoever. Everything you said in this video was our similar experience as well. We learned (the hard way) that we usually wound up losing money working on them just due to the fact of how impossibly stupidly they were designed. Nothing on a Ford is easy to get to or work on for small independent shops. For the same reasons, we refused to take in Audi's, Saab's and Volvo's as well. All four are the worst engineered vehicles on the planet. I would have to say as far as working on cars, the best engineered cars we've worked on (for ease of access, and insightful design) were Honda, Mercedes-Benz, and post-2000 GM cars/trucks, in that order. If engineers lack the insight to understand that parts fail and need to be replaced - and still make those components incredibly hard to access - they have no understanding of how to properly engineer and design vehicles.
Agree with everything except the Audi bit. Audis are different but I've never found them hard to work on. Will grant you that if you're not working on them consistently, they can be harder, but they're always designed with maintenance in mind.
And Acura, where they use wire/ computer models of " mechanics " to determine accessability of engine designs. If the hand don't fit, you must be working on a Ford !
You’re spot on. I explain this to people when I say I won’t own a newer ford, and I’m picky about older fords. I still own 4 fords 55 c600, 68 cortina GT, 69 cortina estate, and 79 motorhome. The big thing that makes me lean towards chevy is part cost and long term reliability. Every one of my Chevys has been cheaper to own than anything else I’ve owned over a long period of time.
This is why my dad taught me many many years ago back in the early 80s to drive GM products I'm a shade tree mechanic and I have been able to swap engines regular maintenance and have great reliability cheap parts interchangeability of parts there's no doubt I've saved thousands by driving General Motors trucks and Automobiles at the same time have many Less Problems then a lot of people I know that drive Fords I have never bought or drove anything but General Motors
I concur with you. From 1949 until 2013 my father and I were loyal Ford customers buying a brand new car every 4 years. Sadly I bought a 2010 Platinum that 2 hours after I got it home it vibrated unbelievably. I called the dealership wishing to return the truck and was told I couldn't because I put insurance on it and now it was considered a 'used' vehicle. I got so pissed off I went to a different Ford dealership and unloaded the Platinum on a new Expedition 5.4 that got abysmal gas mileage, then the a/c went out and the repair wasn't covered by the warranty and the fix was almost $700. Enter a ruby red 2013 ecoboost F-150 and believe me there is absolutely NO ECO IN THE BOOST, the gas mileage was no better than the 5.4. At the end of the lease I decided that I've been abused enough by FoMoCo and bought a 2017 GMC Sierra Kodiak THAT I AM ABSOLUTELY THRILLED WITH. It is averaging 11.8 L/100Km. which is 21 mpg U.S., which would be about 23 mpg Imperial. This truck is such a joy to drive that I actually go the speed limit because I enjoy being in my truck so much. Kiss my ass good bye Ford because we are history forever. DAD: STOP SPINNING IN YOUR GRAVE!!!!!!
So sad, you should have gotten the 5.0L v8 and not the ecoboost. 5.0 is really good, reliable, powerful, and fairly efficient motor. The main reason gm trucks get good mileage is because they put weak gear ratios in them and they turn to weak trucks whenever you have to tow anything. And gm is getting a bad reputation with the cylinder deactivation they put in their engines to gain .002 mpg. Been quite problematic in the 6.2 and 5.3. You could have put your 2010 f-150 under the lemon law if the dealership couldn't fix it btw. I have a 2010 xlt with 5.4 with almost 200,000 miles and engine is still untouched and I manage 19 mpg highway which I think is pretty decent for a 2010 with that many miles.
@@bkranz-12835.0 reliable? You're wrong. instagram.com/p/BqsmPUCA_F59VzMkl_mdkerXlVnUlnFCJ-I8Xc0/? I believe that guy and I know that they're using that bad technology of engine block manufacturing for a while. If you don't understand what you see on that picture - don't mind, they're "great!".
Check out the Ford 3.5L & 3.7L V6 Engine water pump design. WHEN the water pump leaks the water will go down Into the oil pan & soon the engine will be history. I'm sure Ford knows this Is a problem most likely to happen after warranty.
I worked for a Navistar dealership for years and I will tell you Navistar is so full of shit regarding their engines (hence one of several reasons theyve basically shut down their engine business). They were doing hp branch tube repairs on UPS vans long before ever letting that information out to any other customer, circa 2007. The lift pumps on their Maxxtrash would fail. You could do every test, fail. Hard wire it, fail. Replace the pump and you could write a melody turning the pump on and off with the computer. We'd send the claim, then hear about the pumps *everyone* was replacing were passing warranty tests back at the factory at 97%. We were doing 2-3 a day. The Maxx7(?), aka 6.4, would fracture piston rings at 100k all day long. We had customes getting their 4th repl engine at 230k miles. They are so full of it I'm sure those shit for brains designed their engines on an etch a sketch. They were also so generous when their Maxxtrash 13 would runaway and grenade itself we'd get 13 shop hours to replace a complete big bore diesel with 80k miles. I never missed an opportunity to call their bullshit, they didnt like me much.
I just quit my job over "SHOP HOURS" ten or 13 hours and end up damn near rebuilding a whole engine and just feeling like I didnt make enough for all that work... Damn fords ate my lunch EVERY time
So true, Navistar is such a joke, they're nothing like International Harvester. I disagree with Rich, I think that more than likely Navistar lied to Ford about the 6.0 and 6.4 because Ford didn't make those trucks disposable like the engines. The super duties are very well built. All those maxxforce engines are absolute trash.
I feel you brother. I am 57, owned Fords all my life, worked on all brands including European. If I bought a new Truck....it will not Be a Ford. The bling is not what I need it is reliability and maintenance for me.
OMG I just found your channel and I can't tell you how little I've gotten done the last two days. I really find your channel much more in tune with today's DIYers. Your videos are honest, don't hype products, show the average backyard mechanic real videos!! Everything from Joe rebuilding your trans to problems on the power tour. You have a great honest channel with good people and projects. Thanks!
I’m laughing my ass off because it’s exactly what I’ve said for years. My dislike started 30 years ago, they change even brackets from year to year making engine swaps a pain.
I was about to use my newly bought fuckin tape boss as a fuckin skeet... but then you "un-shit on my heart" at 2:21 hahaha. Fuckin eh rich! You are a smart fucker, got lots of respect for guys cut from your cloth!
I started my HET apprenticeship w/ Ford, and I agree w/ every word you say. It didn't take long for me to start saying at work "Some engineer got paid a lot of money to make that mistake".
My dad was ford man and so I became one. Just in the last decade Ive owned 6. Raptor, GT500, 2 mustang gt's, fusion, escape. They all seemed to be not too bad at first, but as time passed and the car's went out of warranty, it became apparent to me that being a ford man was not affordable. So I cut ties and will not buy ford anymore.
I was a die-hard Ford guy, it's disappointing to see that they've done the things they've done. Decided to go Japanese because all the parts are designed and made in one place with the exception of the American-built cars.
I was a Ford guy all of my life... until I worked on Fords at a dealer. 3 months later I quit and moved over to Toyota. Have't bought a Ford since. Got all my family members in Toyota.
Glad you said the 7.3s were ok. Actually I'm really stuck on the Detroit. And just being honest I drove Chevys all my life for the same reason you like GMs.
And I'll take a 12v over a 7.3 any day. So much simpler. Yeah it's pricier to start but I can mod it to the moon easily. Incredible parts availability. Can't argue with that.
Totally agree with this. I grew up loving Ford. My first car was a mustang, I’ve owned 5 Mustangs since. I’ve owned 4 F series, all pre 97. Starting around the time Ford split the F series line, Ford started going downhill fast. The 6.0 and 6.4 speak for themselves, the 4.6 was a constant underpowered disappointment, the 5.4 was a disaster, the 6.8 V10 was a gas guzzling underpowered disappointment. For about 10 years, they simply made awful vehicles. Modern times, they’ve made it so hard to work on them. And the parts are ridiculously expensive.
Ford went down hill in sales Ram was stealing their sales Ram truck sales were getting stronger because of their good quality reliability and dependability
Pop the hood on a new Cummins. Pop the hood on a 6.7. The Cummins is substantially more simple and easy to work on. You need to be an engineer from nasa to change Injectors on a 6.7
The Izusu 2.2L motors in S10s have the crank sensors on the side of the block and are accessed through the wheel well with little drama and I actually think that's a handy place to go to replace things on a vehicle. Heaps of room once the tire is out of the way. However, in a Cavalier that sensor is pointed to the firewall.... I've had to slide hammer 3 of them out of S10 motors before and I've always wondered what GMs plan was to get them out of a J body. I've found more stuff like that on GMs than I have anywhere else, but I only own and work on old stuff...
I took most of the guts from an NP246 transfer case, including the 6 pinion planetary front input gear, put them in an NP236 case, bolted it in place of my NP136 t-case in my 2003 Chevy Astro, wired up the NP236 control module from an S10 Blazer and now have a true hi/lo 4x4 Astro van. Talk about interchangeability lol.
GM is very good for enthusiasts. Back when I was playing with S-10's a few guys built V8 AWD trucks with parts from full size Chevy trucks and AWD Astro Van parts. I put Hydroboost brakes into my 93 S10 with parts from a full size 2500. Just had to get the right stuff from the junk yard. No custom parts required. B-Body Brake or Vette brake upgrades were also very popular.
and then you have Ford, who decided that after years of success with NP transfer cases in their pickups, that they should have BW make a fucking mess of things with a 1356. Yeah, a magnesium cased transfer case in a 4wd truck sounds like a great idea. And what can you swap a 1356 into? Not a goddamned thing.
Thank God we had 8 years of intelligent people running government offices in the USA who correctly modified the DMCA to protect owners from companies like this.
I believe that there was a act passed called the right to repair law, but don’t quote me on that. The bill a forced Deere and other companies to release the software/tooling to the public. So that farmers could work on their own machinery.
chad Spidle, he’s not kidding about the old trucks before 97, I drive a 95/96-97 f250 w a 7.3 and it’s got 367K on it and it pulls like a freight train and sounds like no other. I’m 16 and my old truck has been pretty freaking reliable after I changed all the sensors on it, changed the IPR & valve cover gaskets to the new ones without the 2 pice plug inside the valve cover so it doesn’t die when you hit a bump. That truck has taken a ton of beating but then I haven’t beat on it that much, it’s the most reliable thing I own and I can always count on it to start. I have also put a glow plug off switch so I can listen to music with the truck off but with the key on without killing the gasket plugs again, here in Texas we don’t really need glow plugs at all I’ve started the truck at 35-40 degrees and it started up just fine, I love my diesel and I wouldn’t trade the world for it. If I moved to another country I would put it in storage and when I came back I could put two new batteries in it and it’ll start right up no problem. My trucks previous owner took good care of it, it even had the sticker on the windshield for when to change the oil next, so that tells me he was diligent about maintenance on it. And if I sold it I would just buy another so that’s why I just love it. But it’s still got the old front shocks from 95 so they’ll get changed sooner than later cuz they make noise, like a rattling sound when I go down my drive way. Great video Rich, then later on he buys a 93 f350 4 door extended bed truck and is swapping a cat 3126 diesel in it.
Funny how Scotty Kilmer has basically the opposite opinion as this guy and he's a lot more experienced of a mechanic. Different strokes for different folks.
Eberyone has their personal opinion. Scotty is more accurate but hes actually a mechanic. I saw comments on here about fords dashes warping and noisy power steering pumps. Its better than the major oil leaks and shitty quality of GM, and dodge. Or "RAM". Chrysler has the worst recall history and horrible reliability the worst of the big 3. GM is next on reliability issues. Ford has their issues but atleast they werent built with your tax dollars
Paul's Garage the 4.6 is one of the most durable and longest lasting gas engines made in the 21st century so far. It was designed in the 90s too so it obviously held up. 4.6 was more than "decent" as 90% of taxis have hundreds of thousands of miles on em. Even the police drove em to 130k before retiring them.
Craigy C I had 2010 Ford F-150 with the 4.6 and it went threw hell, I had it for 3 years and put over 30 k miles and it was all work miles , I then retired the truck and bought a 2014 6.2 raptor. I’ve had it for a year and I’ve had fun with it. Got it with 15k miles and I’ve gone on long trips and off-road. Love the truck very reliable and capable, way faster than the 4.6 and what has really impressed me has been the way it handles, It’s bigger than my old truck and it can do U-turns and get in tight spaces way better than my old truck. Ford have been great with me and my family. My uncle has a 2010 f150 5.4 and my dad a 2015 f250 6.7 diésel and none of us had any problems
I’m a Chevy guy all day but I drive a 6.7 Ford and I hate the fact that my Ford out preforms every Chevy diesel as it relates to towing but it’s a fact
Ford cars from the 80s and 90s were a nightmare, vacuum lines into vacuum lines into a chicken noodle soup can into more vacuum lines , $8,000 scanner later and you still need a break out box and the alldata book is showing a carb even though its fuel injection, turns out the no start was because the steering wheel was turned a little.
I've had the exact opposite experience with my '90s Ford products. Dirt simple to maintain and if it won't run there's an internal engine part hanging out of the pan. If it runs bad the "code scanner" is a paper clip to use on the diagnostic port under the hood, but usually its something super simple like an ignition problem. Cars in the '80s were pretty much junk from everyone though. Even Toyotas even looked like a pack of squids humping under the hood from all of the half baked emissions equipment everywhere. That's why pretty much the first thing everyone did when there was a problem was take all of that crap off and throw it out.
The fwd cars were mostly the problem, obd1 was simple and i do miss the paper clip but for a mechanic to make money and not waste time they can''t just throw parts at it, they need to be sure its a o2 or a maf and some things like coil packs can go out intermittently and you need a good scanner that reads values and logs in real time not the kind that just pulls codes
Oddly, 3 of my 90s Fords have been the FWD platforms of the era and they've all been fantastic. I've also found that on OBD-I cars the troubleshooting charts are actually helpful, accurate, and generally do not end with "replace motor" the way the modern charts do. If you measure a sensor with a simple multimeter and don't get back what you expect to see, there's your problem. The experience of the mechanic is supposed to dictate what sensor you measure for what problem. I've never had the need to datalog an OBD-I car. Only OBD-II because the computers will absolutely freak out if they get outside of emissions boundaries where as OBD-I doesn't give even the slightest of shits. Then there are problems like OBD-II being too smart for its own good and doing things like not setting a code when the cam trigger goes out intermittently even though the vehicle is moving and throttle is being applied (looking at you GM) or when a sensor continuously operates on the high side of normal, like Chrysler forward O2s that will actually cause what feels like a loss of ignition (from an O2!!). I've never seen an OBD-I car exhibit any of those behaviors, which I had to find by logging, and I've actually seen more than one old plow truck driving around with the O2 hanging down from its wires. I'm happy to have a difference of opinion with you on this one. My experiences just haven't been the same as yours, but I can see how OBD-I would be a real nightmare for a tech before the industry standardized on just ONE diagnostic port. Even knowing where all of the damn connectors are on pre-1995 cars would be a full time job. I just don't blame Ford alone for that shortcoming.
I own an '86 T-Bird that I learned how to drive it. No issues besides routine maintenance and a heater core. However, it only has 38,000 miles. Thankfully it has no check engine light haha! I am a GM guy, however. But I always had a soft spot for T-Birds. However, I did remove all the emissions crap on the bird. Got rid of a lot of vacuum lines haha!
I'm another EX Ford guy. They went from primo to crap in a heartbeat. I put hundreds of thousands of miles on 300 CID service vehicles. Bulletproof engines backed by great ancillaries. In one fail swoop they went straight to hell. Reliability from premium to zilch. No more Fords for me. Ever.
300 cid as in the straight 6? Great engine. Quiet and smooth and plenty of torque. Once you get to the years 93-95 ish though they get frustrating. E4OD transmission is harsh and slams into gear, most expensive auto trans to overhaul. Jealous of the guys with manual trans. Also the primary ignition pickup (PIP) sensor in the distributor is known to fail intermittently leaving you stranded one day and driving down the road the next. Super frustrating. Otherwise a great truck great engine. Would never in my life buy a 96+ with the v6 or with the triton.
joe,the 93-96 300 6 has fuel injectors in them that were undersized from the minute they left the factory,i got one by accident,a guy owed me money gave men one for labor on one of his vehicles, the check engine light came on at road speed,i'd turn it off,on a hot day it returned,i found out,by putting it on an old 4 gas analyzer a bud had,i found the problem with this engine, its a good engine but injection is lame, the new engineers are pussies having dickwads up in the design dept telling them to compromise durability ,if you want a real truck go back to the past,i went all the way back to 1969,i don't even like ball joints at all
The more I hear you explain the problems about ford, the more I appreciate and understand why my 2012 GMC Sierra 5.3 SLE with 113,000km runs so well and has never let me down.
I really enjoyed this video. I'm a Ford guy, always had good luck with them for almost 25 years. But I do agree that a Ford is harder to work on when you have to. Also, Zip Ties n Bias Plies says this is fuckin minty!
At this point in my life I would much rather rehab a 80's / 90's Dodge or Chevy truck then to give the dealership $40,000.00 - 80,000.00 on a truck you are afraid to use for the intended purpose.
Right on!! Well said and explained. The Triton 2 thread plug hole is sooo true. Couldn't understand the first time it happended. A "Ford" guy told me I didn't torque plugs correctly. Well, had a shop that had the "tool" to repair this and told them replace all the plugs and torque to specs. Then a year later the 2nd plug goes. REALLY FORD?? I listened to your vid from beginning to end and realized I'm in good company and just bewildered at how Ford does biz. Along with the others. Keep up the great work, thanks!
I also found that the reason is because their engineering is focused on factory savings no matter quality, so the end user is the one that ends paying the price for bad product.
Brother, every single example you brought up rang true! I laughed when you laughed and got frustrated at the same time. Well done. Love the channel, man.
You do realize that you you have to drive your GM. I've had a few Government motors vehicles, a Russian LADA would be more reliable. Alternators, starters, electrical issues constantly, interiors are cheap, shit constantly breaking. My brother in law had a 2 year old GM that burnt to the ground, Investigation confirmed it was an electrical issue. He had taken it to GM numerous times prior with electrical problems, and GM couldn't find a thing. I used to like GM, in the 70's (over priced garbage now) I've had a Ford Lariat for 8 years, zero problems with regular maintenance. And yes, I had a regular maintenance schedule with my GM's as well, it just didn't help.
International built the 7.3. Ford started building the diesel without International with the 6.0. I believe if you look, all cars/trucks companies have motors and cars that they had their problems with and they don’t fix.
My Fords have taken me on an incredible amount of life defining journeys that I will be forever grateful for. With that said, I feel like with my first hand knowledge of only owning Ford trucks, I can safely say I would agree with everything you said. I am driving an 07 Ranger 4x4 4L with the FX package and base trim because it is dead simple to work on. It would kill me to have to buy a newer Ford with their incredible complexities and unnecessary business practices to make vehicle harder to work on by their consumers. The Powerstroke 6L and Triton 5.4L issues really hurt the brand for me, and showed that they have a marketing team running the company now, and not engineers passionate about making vehicles.
@ devil Just wait until one of those timing chains break... It's saves your heart from exploding in your chest with anger if you buy a 350 Chevy instead.
Run a small shop in my garage same thing no Fords 7.3 and above. Really only work on diesels. Wiring issue's, over complicated computer systems. 6.4 came into my day job dropped valve 76,000 miles truck was a boom truck had 30k$ tied up in it and because all 6.4s blow up eventually there are no used engines anywhere. Best you could do was get a new engine which was 13k$ plus the labor to put it in. Hard pill to swallow no small business can afford a hit like that.
Dirtfloorfab Seen many a small bussiness fold up , divorces, kids can't go to collage.....after buying one or more 6.0 powerstrokes back in the day.....
My brother bought two 6.0s from the same dealer for construction use , in less than a year less than 70,000 miles warranty they were both dead in the shop what dead rear cylinders!!! We had to sue Ford to fix them ! they installed new engines and we sold them immediately there’s always a Ford fan out there!! thank God
I don't believe anyone should have to go thru that, even the bullet proof stuff doesn't last we get studded trucks in the shop will the time with cracked heads there's one at the day job right now fuel in the coolant head cracked right above the injector cup 06 6.0
Dirtfloorfab, so you don’t work on 7.3s? , if you don’t then I would say you really can’t work on diesels because they are as simple as they get for ford

Out of the 5 Ford products I have had, 5 have been pieces of junk. In the meantime, my 99 Chevy Tahoe is still running great. I will never buy a Ford product again!
Ive had 4 Tahoes over the past 18yrs. Amazing vehicles.. Power, speed,DURABILITY. My two 2dr '99 Chevy tahoe was a rocket. with 4/6 LOWERING,a HYPERTECH tuner, intake ,headers and true duals. IT WAS A MUSTANG EATING MACHINE. Currently i own a 2018 Silverado 4dr and am already planning the 1st few mods. CHEVY builds their vehicle in a nuetral but great standard. Almost like they are ready for their owners to do add ons. BOWTIE BABY. 💪🏾
Funny world. I feel the same about Chevy. Last 4 I’ve had were junk. Be a long time before I buy another GM product. Say what you will but damn if I don’t have good luck with Ram trucks. Last 6 went 200,000 miles each with oil changes tires and brakes. 2 were 360, 3 were Hemi and 1 a Cummins. Just got me a new Cummins
I used to be a ford person many fords there was never a time that they were not being worked on and 2003 I bought a Silverado I still have it now the only thing I had to do for it was a battery and new tires
I’ve owned every singe brand of vehicle over the course of last 30 years. Never had anything bad ever. I take care of everything on my vehicles and always have. I’ve driven vehicles way older than the mean age of TH-cam viewers and I’ve had brand new vehicles. Never one was bad. I have what’s known as the worlds worst vehicle a 25 year old Land Rover and it’s been Fantastic and dependable. I have a 40 year old ford and a new ford. I have a Jeep, a dodge and none bad. I treat them well and care for them. I’ve also owed a couple jaguar another supposedly rotten vehicle! Nope. No problem. Funny enough the day I sold one jag the guy calls me complaining it broke. Well driving like a dick and it breaks.
@@One-Crazy-Cat That's mostly my experience too. If you buy something that's well kept and keep it well then most makes will last. I do agree that late model Fords are hard to work on. We have a dealer here that flips a lot of cars from auctions and they have a special setup for taking the cabs off of Fords because that's the only way they can fix something on the engine. I have a 2004 E350 and it's been down for the past couple of months with a few minor problems. It's just so hard to get to the engine that I have a hard time motivating myself to work on it.
@@erikcapozzi3425 No, but even less surprised that Ford dumped their many attempts at making flagship cars, and making them profitably, except the 'stang. Had a bunch of Fords until 2002 and finally gave them up. Went TDI, then a D-max/Allison added in '04, and haven't looked back--much better experiences.
Seriously and they are still making quality trucks. Ive test driven almost every brand and truck model out there. Theres a route i take trucks on a test drive theirs a steep hill uneven roads, dips and speed bumps, decent route to show me how the truck holding up specially the suspension. I always been a GM guy and thought I'd always stick with the Silverados or Sierra. Untill i drove the Tundra. Every other truck brand out there when i go thru a dip or speed bump you hear the clunk from the suspension, you have to kinda brace yourself because you know its going to make that noise. Not the tundra im surprised how i went through the dips and speed bumps and the suspension is pretty bad ass i didnt get that annoying noise. As far as trucks go im now sticking with tundra. And i wouldn't mind the new Camry or Avalon either they are bad ass
They got 40 extra years through government welfare...but still made cars that weren’t compelling. The Japanese agreed to voluntary export restraints in the 80s.
chevydodgedude1 the “coyote” design? Lmao it’s literally a completely different engine. However ford did make a sohc engine that the ls is based off of. The same engine ford kept destroying gm on the nascar track so the cry babies had to get that engine banned so they could compete again.
I’ve had 2 OBS diesels 95 & current 93 250 & the bodies before 1997 are good then after maybe 2003 for the diesels. The 1/2 ton trucks dropped off after 97 & personally I wouldn’t buy one after that. I can see myself getting a dodge 2500 Cummins or maybe a 250 only with a full warranty on everything, cuz everything is expensive.
@@79tazman I had a 77 dodge ram van. Had slant 6. 750,000, Ran like champ on original motor and trands. Shocks were shot but it ran for me over 100,000 miles. Was still running when I sold it. Guy drove it home. 850,000 miles. Best motors I ever owend. Never broke down on me.
Still driving my old 1985 Dodge pick up. Rebuilt a core engine for it this winter as the old one is blowing oil I will drive this thing until the end of days and I love it.
My first car was a 1985 Monte Carlo my first truck was a 1988 S10 and a lot of the parts from the Monte Carlo for interchangeable with the S10 that's why I'm a Chevy fan
This guy is RIGHT ON THE MONEY! I could spend hours talking about all the experiences I've had in the automotive industry. But he's right about them doing it on purpose, like that business about just putting a few threads in the spark plug socket. But they always have been this way to certain extent.
If its a 4.6 its out and done in an hour or less, when my ignition coils went bad i fixed it diy in 15 mins, 4.6 everything easy to get to.Most shops charge an hour but if you have the know how and tools and parts over 150 bucks saved, they charge an hour labor for a 15 min job lmao.Even in shops the 4.6 takes less time and easy to work on.Most newer motors take longer though.
@@aspieotaku3580 This is true. When I bought my 93, it had a number of cooling system issues and vacuum leaks in the typical places you'd expect from a 5.8. Also had some throttle response issues. I was able to replace the radiator, water pump, heater core, upper plenum gasket, and the oil cooler in about 7 hours. Then I isolated the throttle problem down to a bad TPS and swapped it out in about 20 minutes. Had all that crap fixed in about 8 hours, including 2 trips to the parts house. These new vehicles? 8 hours wouldn't even get you access to everything I mentioned.
I manage a fleet of 60 light and medium duty trucks for an oil field company , and I have to agree with you 100% Fords diesels are an unreliable nightmare , and until recently the gas engines were underpowered . The Chevys drive train is good , but their steering and suspension is garbage , and Dodge engines are great , but their transmissions fail , and the bodies rust off them - the running joke in our shop is that Dodge should make glider kits for their diesel chassis because one you replace the first transmission with a properly built one the truck is good for a million miles, except the body falls off at 500k or less . My personal truck is a 2007 Dodge with a 5.9 Cummins , and yes I’ve changed the transmission , and yes the body is rusting off it , but it’s got over 600k on it and it runs like a champ.
So you maintain a fleet of trucks people abuse to holy hell because they don't pay for them or have to fix them.....gee I wonder why they are a nightmare? We have a fleet (roughly 150) in the refinery I work at yet the are minimal issues yet our fleet is 95% ford with a few shitty chevys and dodge mixed it... the remaining GMC and dodge are being phased out due to unreliability. There's always someone with a different story about which brand is better. Ford is winning that battle where im from.
@@jdrok5026 ok,I have to... and vice versa.... it's about maintenance and keeping up with them. But Chevy and ESPECIALLY DODGE break more Don't get your panties in a wad lol
Fords arent nearly as common in the oilfield. Majority are chevy and dodge here in oklahoma and ive never had a ford hold up to the abuse compared to a gm. Even farmers here prefer dodge over the other 2. If its a ford its cause someone was raised with ford.
@@coltoncarpenter3790 damn, that's weird but I believe it. Different areas different preferences. I will say oil field is a huge difference that a refinery so there's obviously something to it.
I own a loaded 2011 FX4 SC with the 5.0L. that I purchased new, it now has 118 km. This was my pre-retirement gift to myself. I agree with you Rich Fords are designed to be difficult for mechanics outside the dealer network to work on. I had lots of warranty claims over the years with mine everything from a HVAC blend door module that required the front seats and console as well as the entire dash removal to access the part to replace it. What kind of engineer burys a poorly designed $40.00 part that requires 8 hours of shop time to replace? The answer is simple one whose goal is to make money for the dealership network and even if the part is changed out under warranty it will likely fail again and make future revenue for the company. I purchased the Ford factory extended warranty $2200.00 after owning the truck for close to a year. I normally would never purchase an extended warranty but was I glad I did. I have a 3" binder that I keep my service records in for this truck. The warranty work order claims take up more than 1 7/8" of that binder. I have more than 30 years of experience as a mechanic and I know all manufactures have one goal, make a profit. If that means added costs for the owner oh well. The warranty work on my truck totaled more than $9,400.00.The extended warranty expired in September.I have had no major problems with the engine or the transmission. I'm not a fan boy for any brand. The stupid part is I still like the truck and when the next part fails I'll be the poor sap replacing it.But it could be worse! I could have bought a insert whatever brand you dislike here............
Watch that "what kind of engineer" talk... We don't get to make those calls. The interior is styled by a guy with a really great set of crayons that doesn't know jack shit about how to BUILD an interior and then we have to figure how to make his cartoons into a working vehicle. Styling is ALWAYS king and any and all engineering will be compromised just to get the style the guy with the crayons sold the CEO on. The same thing happens with "cost reduction" that just cheapens the vehicle up. The engineer doesn't make that call, the accountants do. If automotive engineers had our way you would pass your vehicle down through the generations of your family for decades on end. It would also get 6mpg, weigh 20,000lbs, cost 2 million dollars, and lack pesky things the VEHICLE doesn't need, like heat, A/C, power steering, cup holders, etc, etc... Anyhow, believe it or not, there is not a conspiracy of automotive designers making intentionally inferior parts that are designed to get the vehicle back to the service center. Most of the decisions that result in poor performance and big recalls are generally made in board rooms far removed from the guys tasked with doing the job. It's the quality of the board room guys that dictates the quality of the end product and Ford HAS been run by idiots for about 20 years now.
That is true if you only want to repair the passenger side or you have the standard HVAC system. Like I said mine is loaded so I have dual climate control. Driver's side is buried on the bottom of the HVAC assembly. But thanks for the information it may help someone else.
Got a 1988 Ford f250 with the 7.3L Diesel that I am working on. Everything is so much simpler on older vehicles. I look at the new Diesels and it blows my mind the shit piled onto the engine and everything that needs to be taken off before you can get to the bulk of it, the actual engine! I had a 02 z28 with a ls1, the LS motors are fun and easy to work on. great engines. People put GM motors in Fords, never the other way around.
Chevy has made 2 small blocks and 2 big blocks in the last 63 yrs. how many has Ford made? Every engine except the 216,235, & 261 has the same bolt pattern since 1955 , even the 153 4cyl.
I grew up in a transmission shop. I had to pick up more Ford E4LD, AOD, transmissions than I can count! Ford also has so many bell housings and engine family's. So annoying. Ford likes to fix things that are not broken.
Right on track with my opinion on the Ford transmissions because I had a truck that needed 2 in 5 years of owning that POS. I spent all this extra money on aftermarket upgrades to make it last on the 2nd one while rebuilding. It should have been engineered better by Ford. I spent $7K on trans rebuilds in 5 years. No more Ford for me EVER!
I had a Lincoln Mark VIII that had the AODE in it. To this day I still can't tell you what went wrong with that transmission or computer or what ever it was. I had to take it to a transmission ship for an issue, I can't remember exactly what the symptom was, but that transmission never acted right again, and maybe it was a computer issue and not a transmission issue, but the transmission shop did everything short of changing the computer. They claim they took a new case, put race spec internals into the case, but it still had issues. I ended up buying a 6 speed Corvette because I was so fed up with the issues that plagued the automatic in my Lincoln. I now drive a 08 F-150 FX4 and besides a slight shudder under light acceleration that went away after having the fluid flushed or changed I forget which one, I haven't had any major issues with my truck.
M1009 HD he’s all over the place! One minute he says a vehicle is bad and then two videos later he’s back pedaling. One time he said that dodge made the best American V8. Then he says their V8s have lubrication issues! I happen to think GMs LS motors are the best American V8s but that’s just my opinion.
@@PumaPete I totally agree. I hate how he bases his opinion off of one experience he's heard about a car. I don't believe a word he says. Maybe he does say stuff that is true, but I wouldn't believe it if it came from him because he has a bad reputation in my opinion.
M1009 HD yep he keeps railing on GM trucks because ONE customer of his had a bad condenser. Well I’ve had TWO Toyota’s blow head gaskets on me. Does that make his precious Toyota’s junk? Then he makes a video about how great a truck the 2500 Chevy is! I’m like WTF!!!its the sane damn truck with bigger suspension parts! I just think he’s running out of video ideas. You can only swing from Toyota’s nuts for so long before you run out of things to say.
@@PumaPete I just don't understand his thought process. I swear he is paid by Toyota and Ford sometimes. Or like you said he is just running out of ideas. He doesn't quite understand that all cars have problems from time to time. Some are more reliable than others, but that doesn't mean it's junk if one thing goes out on one car that he has "worked on".
Just found Your channel, and love what I've seen of Your content. This episode (for some reason) made me remember a "story" about some famous car designer saying something along the lines of: "if I was allowed to mount an gun on top, we would sell as many as we could make"... The point being that it's a feature that is totally uncalled for and unpractical to (almost) everyone, BUT it would make people feel that it was "cool to have". And that purchasing a vehicle is (to many) a decision that is to a large extent influenced by purely emotional """reasons""", such as "looking good", "status" and other "intangible qualities" ... And this is (in my oppinion) why it's easier to sell things (in this case cars) that "look good" than things that "work well"...But that's just how we work as a species I guess. Best regards.
I could not agree more, was a ford man for years they were a vehicle for the ordinary man, simple build, cheap parts and almost no specialist tools requied. Now, forget it, overly complex assemblies and as much plastic as possible, as few standard fastners a s possible and everything watched by the computer.
I owned a 2002 F-250 that was a great truck. I believe it was the last year that the 7.3 was used. It is also the last year that I would consider owning a Ford truck for all the reasons you site. I now own a Dodge Ram with the Cummins engine. Not much of a Dodge fan but love the Cummins engine.
I had a subcompact ford that was 5 years old and blew the crank seal. wife drove the car and to my surprise was not checking the oil level, or having it checked as she frequented service stations that pumped the gas for her. as ford had discontinued that model and it was no longer supported I was unable to get a new seal for the engine. ask me how impressed I was to scrap a 5 year old car? And what I think about ford now?
I had a Ford once. When I got it, I didn't know the difference. I soon learned. Yeah, the cars are and were just as you describe. Stupid problems, and designed to be hard to fix. The best way to repair a Ford is to replace it with something else.
Ford Owner: There's something wrong with my Ford, the engine gets hot and the radiator needs water refill every three days. Mechanic: It's because your radiator cap it's attached to a piece of shit.
Thanks
Huh I thought exhaust manifold bolts snapping was a gm thing, but the spark plug stuff is very true a ford thing but only on the Triton engines anything above 2010 is just a pain in the but to work on unless u have all the diagnostic computers
Johnsfords94 manifold bolts are an issue on all of the big 3 now it seems

Toyota is in a completely different class when it comes to reliably when you take care of your truck

I’ve had nothing but problems with my Lincoln Navigator FUCK FUCK FORD AND OUR SHERIFFS IN MDR
@@DriveCarToBar You can change a water pump on Dodge with a Cummins in 10 minutes.

Should have just run a wire from the other side!! Then use hand signals!!!!?
This is common in all products these days. Corporate greed is killing us! I find all kinds of products at the curb on trash night that usually only need one part to work again, but that part+labor costs more than a new product. Being able to fabricate my own parts, I save a bundle. I took a picture of at least a dozen things I found in the trash that I fixed and totalled up their value. I spent a total of fifty dollars fixing what would have cost me at least 700-900 dollars worth of common household items like shop vacs and power washers.
Epic fail results in passing the buck onto the owners. For a tail light ?! Crazy
Same deal for headlights on Ford rangers

Square body Fords were great looking trucks. I think the 4.9, 5.0, and 5.8 weren't as good as some people swear. The difference is, those trucks could break and chances are you would make it back home. The new trucks break without warning and leaves you stranded.
I loved the old power steering whining in the 80's Ford built amazing vehicles back then and they still are #1
@@ladin425 My 300 Six Bronco will run forever
You ever get to work on any of the Nissan Trucks? ?
Money
Agreed, but replace Mercedes with Toyota and GMwhatever with KIA/Hyundai
I’m with you! I’ll stick to my GM vehicles.
I had issues with GM so I switched to Fiat Chrysler never had issues I will never get a GM vehicle I will stick to Chrysler

The best ford Gas engine is the Gas 6.2 V8 in the F250's

Pop the hood on a new Cummins. Pop the hood on a 6.7. The Cummins is substantially more simple and easy to work on. You need to be an engineer from nasa
to change Injectors on a 6.7
6.7 injectors are not under the valve covers and are easily accessed through the fender well.
mudbucket89 I'm aware of that. No it's not easy access. All the high pressure lines are a 1 time crush seal you have to tear a lot out to get to them
Why are we accessing things through the fender well?
LOL. Really? Because there isn't room to get them from the top.
Not a goddamned thing.

chad Spidle, he’s not kidding about the old trucks before 97, I drive a 95/96-97 f250 w a 7.3 and it’s got 367K on it and it pulls like a freight train and sounds like no other.
If youre not a mechanic, it doesn't really matter.
Yea too late
I love ford bashing!. Got pretty good at 4.6 5.4 timing chains tensioners and cam phasers.
I totally agree, very pore engineering.
I hear the ticking in my sleep still
Totally agree, pre-triton ford trucks were much better. Took a HUGE dive with the 4.6/5.4 engines, same for those 6.0 diesels.
i agree the old 351 and 460 were great motors.....reliable easy to fix.. the 4.6 2v was a decent motor but the 3v were a disaster.
Craigy C my grandfather has a fast back mustang (67 I think) that has a 4.6
Craigy C I had 2010 Ford F-150 with the 4.6 and it went threw hell, I had it for 3 years and put over 30 k miles and it was all work miles , I then retired the truck and bought a 2014 6.2 raptor.
Paul's Garage yeah the 4.6l is sooooo reliable
I’m a Chevy guy all day but I drive a 6.7 Ford and I hate the fact that my Ford out preforms every Chevy diesel as it relates to towing but it’s a fact
Ford cars from the 80s and 90s were a nightmare, vacuum lines into vacuum lines into a chicken noodle soup can into more vacuum lines , $8,000 scanner later and you still need a break out box and the alldata book is showing a carb even though its fuel injection, turns out the no start was because the steering wheel was turned a little.
I'll be Frank I'm Leary about using my name
I'm DEAD 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Ever.
Tom Swinburn Agreed. All Toyota’s now
300 cid as in the straight 6? Great engine. Quiet and smooth and plenty of torque. Once you get to the years 93-95 ish though they get frustrating. E4OD transmission is harsh and slams into gear, most expensive auto trans to overhaul. Jealous of the guys with manual trans. Also the primary ignition pickup (PIP) sensor in the distributor is known to fail intermittently leaving you stranded one day and driving down the road the next. Super frustrating. Otherwise a great truck great engine. Would never in my life buy a 96+ with the v6 or with the triton.
joe,the 93-96 300 6 has fuel injectors in them that were undersized from the minute they left the factory,i got one by accident,a guy owed me money gave men one for labor on one of his vehicles, the check engine light came on at road speed,i'd turn it off,on a hot day it returned,i found out,by putting it on an old 4 gas analyzer a bud had,i found the problem with this engine, its a good engine but injection is lame, the new engineers are pussies having dickwads up in the design dept telling them to compromise durability ,if you want a real truck go back to the past,i went all the way back to 1969,i don't even like ball joints at all
Tom Swinburn yea! The best ford engines was the 6 cyl 300 and the diesel best was the old 7.3. Great motors!
Highstranger951 I guess you have no need for a heavy duty truck. Toyota don’t make one

The more I hear you explain the problems about ford, the more I appreciate and understand why my 2012 GMC Sierra 5.3 SLE with 113,000km runs so well and has never let me down.
😂😂😂😂 113k km? I have 300k km on my 2012 Raptor, and it runs as good as new. When you get near that, brag then.
I really enjoyed this video. I'm a Ford guy, always had good luck with them for almost 25 years. But I do agree that a Ford is harder to work on when you have to. Also, Zip Ties n Bias Plies says this is fuckin minty!
Travis Robinson I fuckin love Zip-Ties n Bias-Plies!!!!!!
I love my minty old ford
Yep, even ol Zippy said he doesn't care for post 96 Ford models.
The Ecoboost engine is easy to work on because it's smaller in stature and there is plenty of room to get at it once you pull the plumbing away.
Zippy is gr9
I'm a Ford guy, and agree Ford doesn't want anyone but dealers to render repairs.
Brother, every single example you brought up rang true! I laughed when you laughed and got frustrated at the same time. Well done. Love the channel, man.
I like to say that the reason ford is the best selling is because people keep having to replace them.
Every 2 years 3 of my buddies get new fords. wonder why they number one selling. I still have my gmc and they went 3 fords

My brother in law had a 2 year old GM that burnt to the ground, Investigation confirmed it was an electrical issue.
He had taken it to GM numerous times prior with electrical problems, and GM couldn't find a thing.
I used to like GM, in the 70's (over priced garbage now)

Blend door actuator can be accessed by removing radio and all panel around it, and by removing glove box door.
That is true if you only want to repair the passenger side or you have the standard HVAC system. Like I said mine is loaded so I have dual climate control. Driver's side is buried on the bottom of the HVAC assembly. But thanks for the information it may help someone else.

Just like the government! lol
There's a square body at my school as a maintenance truck with a manual and it still lives
GM has only two. FWD and RWD.
Scotty Kilmer angry
Unless his check from Ford bounced and then his next video will be why Fords are bad. I really don't like Scotty Kilmer.
I bought a new Tundra instead of the Ford my friends were peer pressure-ing me into buying
way to stand up to peer pressure LOL
Great, now you can haul the garbage out weekly...
Just saying tundras are fucking bomb I don't have a single complaint on my 14 sr5
In the long run the truck will probably outlast the friends lol
Tundras are just as much of a pain in the ass to work on
Smart man. The new shit is ridiculous. I'm in auto glass and know exactly what you mean.
That’s every single vehicle made today. It’s not isolated to Ford. Come on man!
2003 was the last year for the 7.3
I had a subcompact ford that was 5 years old and blew the crank seal. wife drove the car and to my surprise was not checking the oil level, or having it checked as she frequented service stations that pumped the gas for her. as ford had discontinued that model and it was no longer supported I was unable to get a new seal for the engine. ask me how impressed I was to scrap a 5 year old car? And what I think about ford now?
I had a Ford once.
When I got it, I didn't know the difference.
I soon learned.
Yeah, the cars are and were just as you describe.
Stupid problems, and designed to be hard to fix.
The best way to repair a Ford is to replace it with something else.
Had a auto salvage and used car lot 80 % at the auction was Ford's. I worked on them for years they are a nightmare.
Ford Owner: There's something wrong with my Ford, the engine gets hot and the radiator needs water refill every three days.
Mechanic: It's because your radiator cap it's attached to a piece of shit.
