sad really, not creepy. I tend to think there were once families that came in here on a friday or saturday night or teenagers that might have hung out here long ago. This place saw a lot of action in the 70s and 80s, im sure
RageTV I'm pretty sure this is at Carolina Beach (Wilmington, NC) I went there as a teenager and took my own kids there too. Anchor Man or Cars was the last movie we saw there.
This movie theater was built in 1984, and opened June 1984 by Stewart and Everett Theaters of Charlotte, NC. It was originally going to be a 3 screen complex with a 4th to be added later but with the areas rapid growth at the time the company decided to go ahead with 4 screens out of the gate. Stewart and Everett Theaters owned and operated the theater until Carmike’s buyout December 17, 1986. Carmike continued running the 4 screen complex until June 25th, 2010. Carmike leased the theater building and when the lease was up in June, Carmike did not renew. The old style auditoriums and out dated design no longer turned a profit. Auditorium 1 and 4 seated 189 people each, auditorium 2 seated 289 people and auditorium 3 seated 258 people. The exterior is white stucco and the interior remained the original Stewart and Everett blue color scheme. It was demolished late-2018 to early-2019.
This is freaky man. I've been here before, I'm pretty certain. I think I saw, no joke, 'Shrek' here way back in 2001 when I was a kid. If this is where I think it is. They tore this whole complex down over the winter to make way for ANOTHER Publix
I don't know about you but I freaking love it when abandoned buildings still have power!!!! Also looks like someone forgot their grill thats unfortunate lol
I remember when I went into an abandoned movie theater. I found an old cast iron casing that looked like an real old movie projector and strips of 35mm film all over the project room floor.
As a former Cinerama projectionist it hurts my eyes to see all this... too bad there are no details of the projectors and although I am not a fan of Cristie's, the non-rewind platters still look in good condition.... too bad this era is going..
Power amps and audio equipment is still there, speakers as well i'm sure. That is worth value. 7:20 we clearly see the back of the amp rack and some amplifiers in there.
I actually live just five minutes away from this movie theater in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. It's been closed for a number of years, probably almost ten years now. I can still remember going there on the weekends. Sadly its become a scene for a lot of violence and crime that happens on the island. I've been inside it a few years ago, but I never imagined it would get this bad with all the mold and water damage. Even last summer I looked inside, and I always see that grill there; It use to be outside (probably someone just dumped it). Thankfully there are plans to demolish this old structure, and build a new shopping center, which will include a movie theater. There was no actual damage caused by hurricanes; all the damage has been caused by numerous break in's and gun violence from drug crimes I've been told by CBPD. Numerous people have been arrested for arson, and the city constantly check's in, and when necessary add's additional security measures. Most recently (August 2017) they have now blocked off the parking lot in front, which I would assume is to deter vehicle's and any potential additional crimes. I know the city was attempting to sell the property for a long time (as seen by the Coldwell Banker signs in the concession area on the main lobby floor). Thanks for the video share, however your video on the rest of Federal Point Shopping Center which is right next door is a little misleading, as over 60% of the floorspace in the mall is actually still owned and operated by different retailers, including a MaxWay (division of Ross Corp.) The BeechPC store closed just weeks, or even days before filming; as they moved to another location, due to their lease ending and the current owner not extending current leases, as Carolina Beach Development Company LLC intends to purchase and demolish all buildings, before rebuilding from the ground up. Other than that, great video
Max Whitaker wow! Thank you so much for all the info! Please keep me updated if you don’t mind! As far as the crime and violence I went there at night several times and ALWAYS felt the need to lock up my bike and stay on alert. I even carried pepper spray which I normally wouldn’t if I was alone anywhere else on the island. That entire section feels like you’ve crossed into another place that isn’t the friendly beach town surrounding it. It’s really strange.
Yes, this is sadly the case. The area really began to fall into disrepair when the Food Lion grocery store, as well as the Michaels Seafood Restaurant (world famous seafood chowder restaurant) moved to new locations, on a different part of the island. I believe this was somewhere in the 2004-2006 range. Sadly nothing was able to really take the space, and the Harries Teeter (if you saw the "coming soon" signs right across the parking lot in a grass field) refused to take the space. The city continues to offer the space, however, again a recent deal has been confirmed, and hopefully if all permits go through, this space will see a use once again with a new grocery store and retailers (grocery store will most likely be a publix, but the developer will not disclose details to the press until all permits have gone through.) The developer is most likely attempting to outbid Harris teeter, as the island really could not support three mega stores, espically in the winter months when the population drops to about 3,000 residents. The overall area is fairly safe; the nearby neighborhoods are all very friendly and house many upscale apartments and condos. The movie theater, and to some extent the entire plaza really is a soar eye in the community. In addition, the recently closed mini-golf (where you shot another video), was purchased by a developer out of Charlotte I believe, who plans to turn the area into a small shopping center, last I heard. Unfortunately, construction on the island takes a lot of time; the harris teeter was originally suppose to open in 2012. I truly hope the area will see a use in the near future; the island really could use its own movie theater! I will do my best to update you as time progresses. As of December 13th, the city of Carolina Beach approved plans for Carolina Beach Development Company to construct a new mall, granted they receive all necessary permits, and come to a settlement on existing lesses, as I believe some stores such as MaxWay have a lease that runs till 2020. The final stage, which Harris Teeter struggled with for years and is still waiting approval, is to establish a new left hand turn lane into the plaza, from lake park boulevard (in front of the wings/ABC store. Plans have been submitted to the NCDOT, and the developer has announced they have discussed plane with the wings store to potentially use some of their space. However, construction would most likely not start until late 2018, or even early 2019, depending on whether permits are approved. I've attached a link below to a local newspaper where you can read much more detail, in regards to the area. portcitydaily.com/2017/12/13/federal-point-redevelopment-would-demolish-all-existing-buildings-to-make-room-for-new-grocery-store-and-more-nws/
There is also another abandoned movie theater in uptown wilmington, if you're even back in the area. On oleander drive (former carmike cinema 6); however I'm not sure its current state. The city often uses the parking lot for overflow parking to many of the large events, but the cinema has stayed empty for years. In addition to the many other old and abandoned buildings spread across the city.
We have a abandoned movie theater in mattydale New York by Kmart. I do not know anything on it but off the highway you can see it. It has Ben abandoned for as long is I can remember I never went to it but I always know it as the abandoned movie theater. Just search abandoned movie theater in mattydale New York and you will find something on it
Just add zombies and it's like you're in Colby's Movieland at the Willamette Parkview Mall as seen in the first Dead Rising. The cult used it as a hideout, too.
Your brave going there on your own,if there was some crazy loons living in there,God knows what would have happened to you, take someone with you next time just for safety reasons.good luck.
Christie platter on it's side in the projection booth. Would have been used to play films in one continuos loop rewinding as it is playing. The films all came in 20 minute and spools and had to be spliced together to make the continuous loop of film.
You kinda scare easily man. I would love to go explore an old abandoned theater. The history, the people that watched moves there, the stuff left behind, it just seems to awesome and fascinating to pass up. I want to make my own theater (home theater) and my idea was to hang curtains around the room covering the walls just like this theater has. It would be simple & easy and it would have a theater feel to it. I want to make everything easy to disassemble. That way, in case I ever want to tear down the theater and make it something else, it wouldn’t be too hard to put it back to the way it was.
To be honest just like malls movie theater are dieing just like dead malls it sad because soon how a lot of childhood places that alot of us older people who spent so much time going to these places will be a thing of the past just memories of what use to be these places are dieing at a fast pace and soon kids today won't know what a place is!!!!! Many cinema chains are finding occupancy at all time lows of around 8%! Too many screens popping up all over the world due to the crazed finances involved in film production - actors getting $20m+ for example and budgets of $200m+ per movie meant a lot of pressure on distributors to claw back the money - putting pressure on exhibitors to create more and more complexes and screens - like the misfires of the malls a lot of these cinemas are buried in being derelict, someone didn't do their homework - you don't always create extra business by over expanding and over capitalizing beyond your potential market. Combine this with a zillion other entertainment options via the net alone, and you have a perfect storm.
Dude your insane! Going there by yourself no friends no backup! To be honest me would bring friends or even backup incase something happens.... Although im a scare cat.

Nice video but would have rather had close-ups of the old projectors and not if empty shelves, empty stairs, control panels and Coldwell banker trash lol
I know it’s impossible, but imagine how creepy it would be if you were exploring one of the auditoriums and suddenly a film started playing.
Lordy ! I'd piss myself!!!!!!! It's like history doesn't wanna be left as History !

I used to work at a theater and they had the same carpeting as well the same film platter equipment. Looks all to be 80s early 90s
Neat! :)
Justin Dubos do you know what happened to it
Looks old as all hell. Gonna say early 90s. Bit older than some late 90s abandoned theaters.
Crazy how all theatres look like this as of April 2020!
I remember these old theaters, before became big & fancy. I've seen movies in theaters like this one which brings back memories.
I don't know about you but I freaking love it when abandoned buildings still have power!!!! Also looks like someone forgot their grill thats unfortunate lol

I used to go to that theater when I was a teenager. Thanks for the video!

Ever find a "Real live" dead guy?
Cool!
Just think...This movie theater is so old that the last movies that played there might have actually been worth watching!
WOW!!!

What amazed me as a fellow projectionist, was the old carbon arc lamphouses which had been converted to Xenon. . .That tells you something.
Sjoerd Balfoort you cant even find a job as a projectionist anymore. It's all machines

You piece of $***

They probably don't charge anyone it's the government paying the bills for security and in case they wanna restore it or something
The singing refreshments and snack will always make me think of the intro to the ATHF Movie.
I love those little intro commercials! :)
you listen close you'll hear them say hell is on its way now thats creepy
This Cinema 4 place was so old almost 2 decades, they don't have enough more to keep working, and they closing down out of business, no more.
Power amps and audio equipment is still there, speakers as well i'm sure. That is worth value. 7:20 we clearly see the back of the amp rack and some amplifiers in there.
You're right but I guess that someone should take those projectors away before someone will ruin everything
I always wanted to see what the projector rooms looked like.
Sadly this theater has been demolished
Could of at least checked to see if their was some old subwoofers and speakers that were still their
Imagine the big ass TV turned on with a creepy pop up
the end song lets all go to the lobby you listen closely theyre singing : hell is on its way hows that for creepy
This is what all cinemas may look like soon!
Is it just me ,, or did anyone else get a creapy vibe from this place, it feels almost like death is stalking this place,, liked vid
Wow that is REALLY creepy! Any idea on how long it's been sitting for??
Blayne1602 started in December 1984 and closed in June 2010
Reminds me of gremlins the theatre scene where spike tears through the screen lol
This went well, considering all the what if's. Super creepy, and that's just the way I like it. Good find, and another great production.
:)
It’s really sad seeing abandoned things like for real
