I'm one of the people who did the opposite thing this year. I turned all my read books backwards. My logic was that I wanted to read from the shelves and my eye would be caught by the titles of the things I hadn't read it. That said, I have a caveat. Once I've read all of the books on a particular shelf, I get to turn them all the right way around as a motivation for me to clear bookshelves.
Girl that would drive me crazy, I could turn around my read books, but if I turned around my unread books I wouldn't be able to find what I wanted to read. Also I give away a lot of my read books.. No I couldn't turn around my read books either, I love looking at my Stephen King books and most are read, so my books gotta stay showing, I admire your courage.
Yay I love this! I just keep my unread books on a different bookcase in a different room and once I've read a book it either earns a place on the shelves in my room, or it gets donated :)
Ive decided to do this too and I love the idea of it being like a coloring book. It's also a great of encouraging myself to get a the tbrs off my shelves. Also the sound of the books as you were turning them around is so so so satisfying.

This makes me feel so much better about my shelves! They are pretty similar in the fact that I have more unread than read...a lot more.... I tend to visit my library quite often and find I'm reading those books way more than my owned books. Working on that this year! Also I saw a few books that I highly recommend listing to the audio book version. 'Sleeping Giants (The Themis Files)' and 'A Plague of Giants (Seven Kennings #1)'. Both of these are a full cast and done AMAZINGLY!

Honestly this method of seeing my tbr books worked so well for me, my tbr went from 40 books to 17 books in like 6 months? Also I always love these videos of people flipping their unread books for some reason hahah 💕
I love the sound of the books being flipped, it’s like the best ASMR!! And I would totally do this but I don’t actually have a shelf for my unread books-they are all literally on a trunk and piled (3 deep, 30 high) so no need to be embarrassed bc I have a lot more than 160 😂😂
Tip for people worried about not being able to find which unread book they want to read: take pictures of your shelves before you flip the books, then all you have to do is check the picture!
I decided to do it literally just tonight. I understand feeling embarrassed. Not to push my mom under the bus, but because I live at home she will give me a hard time about my constant buying of books, and every so often she asks if I have read any of my books.
I used to think my 150 unread books was too much because I kept hearing other's talk about their overwhelming tbr of 50 but then I remembered I shouldn't compare my book journey to theirs. Seriously, I want to read all the books. So I will. While I can't commit to turning mine around, I am inspired to re-organize my shelf.
Love it. So glad you did this again. I think it’s great that you keep the books you really enjoy. If that means you have a higher ratio of unread books on your shelves, so much the better! Variety is delicious!
Last year I pretty much read through my TBR pile. There were just one or two I didn’t get through and some I decided I no longer wanted and went into my sell pile but overall I read most of my TBR pile. With new books I bought I assed to the ones I didn’t get through m6 TBR pile now consists of 3 books (that I own). However there are other books in those series’s that if I like these books I will be going to get other books to go with them. But I’m so glad that my TBR list is so low and there are round half dozen or so books from authors LOVE being published this year I will be buying and reading.

I have the kallax shelf and have the books I have read stacked horizontally so you can only see the bottom of the book. so there's like 2 piles of books on each side of a shelf
I strive to have tons of books like you. I would totally do that and tag like I’ve read all my books. I’m not sure if you have read this book series but I totally recommend “Eragon” which is a fantasy adventure book.
I have my books flipped too! Even though I just have one bookcase and a book crate it's still around 250 books. I dont read a lot (like 2-7 books a month) so it takes a lot of time to make my shelves look pretty again, but it atleast makes clear what I've read and what I havent read. I have my book case color coordinated so I would love to actually see that! Loved the video

When you did it the last time, I did it too! I find it really satisfying to turn them around (even if it's really a slow process for me because even if I have a "fixed" tbr - meaning I'm not gonna add anything to it - I still read predominantly on my kindle, soooo)

I keep my unread books in a stack on my desk and never let it reach the bottom of the painting hanging over it. I currently have 9 books there and the amount stresses me out. One more book and I´m over the limit new rule for me: I can only buy half the amount of books I read the previous month :D

Yay, it's back! I like the flipping books around as you read them but I don't think I could do this with my books since I share a library with my husband. I love having a ton of books on my tbr anyway so they would never be fully spine side out!
Heads up for Dwarves and the book immediately to the right, the Dwarves series is 5 books, then there's an elf series (not sure how many books for that one) and then the book immediately to the right of Dwarves is the start of his new series that comes after both of those. I saw that one at a bookstore and was going to pick it up but then I saw his reading order and decided to wait.

I’m kinda like you where I get rid of books that didn’t get a high rating (for me it’s only if they’re a 5 star and I’ll reread them or if they’re significant in some way). It makes it so I have like ~14 read books and 90+ unread on my shelf lol. I love buying books, what can I say? I’m currently doing a challenge for myself where I read all the books on it that are less than 300 pages this year so I’m trying to cut it down!

I love it with everything I am. I read the first one in two days! Then I went to the store and got the second and third book! I am now on the third book and LOVING IT! Ooh that's a good idea! I recently counted and came up with over 160. My collection probably numbers around 2-3 hundred. :,D I've now set a goal to read 100 of them by the end of the year, and I'm doing great so far! Also, I SUUUUPER recommend Theft of Swords, I LOVE Riyria Revelations!
I'd do this with my books if it weren't for the fact that more than half my books are unread and the main ones that would still have spines showing would be the Warrior Cats series.... Although it would help in stopping the spines from getting all faded. Also, love those little South Park figures!

I have a few unread books but maybe 6 of them are really boring classics which I've tried to read but closed the book immediately after opening the first few pages. What do I do with them? Having them around is so annoying. I was thinking of donating them to my school library especially since it has very few books in it.
Oh I couldn't handle this, most of my books are unread and I donate almost anything less than 5 stars when I'm done reading them. That is an interesting idea though. I just use Goodreads to go through my 200+ tbr mountain. The goal is to get as many read in a year to get rid of as many as possible.

well my only goal with my tbr is that I have less books on my tbr than read (on goodreads) but since the amount of read books grows constantly so does my tbr - and my bad habit of forgetting to add continuations of series to my tbr shelve I don't have any problems so far to not have more tbr books than read books xD

I did that for years myself but I found I wasn't really reading things from my unread shelves. I was just rereading.
I created a list of my unread books at the start of this year. I had 35 and have already made my way through 7 of them last month.

The Fifth Season is more fantasy than scifi imo, though the setting is very dystopian! (I’m currently reading it and it’s pretty good)

I’m not going to flip my unread books because I don’t have room for them on my shelves. 🤦🏼♀️ but this did give me the idea to take all of my read books off the shelves and put up all my unread! Wish me luck!

well my only goal with my tbr is that I have less books on my tbr than read (on goodreads) but since the amount of read books grows constantly so does my tbr - and my bad habit of forgetting to add continuations of series to my tbr shelve I don't have any problems so far to not have more tbr books than read books xD
