I don't have ants, I don't observe ants in nature, I don't study ants... I have no particular interest in ants whatsoever. Yet, I keep coming back to this channel and enjoy watching these 20+minute-videos about ants and how to keep and care for them. There's something about passionate people that just makes one want to keep listening to them. Plus, I get a bit of ant knowledge as a bonus... entertainment and education, what more is there to ask for ?

Christine Chua Actually they are not called trap jaw ant (Odontomachus spec.). The ants in this video are indeed called Bull ants (Myrmeciinae spec.). Both species look similar but Myrmeciinae are generally bigger and cant snap their jaws like Odontomachus;) i hope i could clear things up a bit. I had an ant problem in my bathroom. Instead of freaking out, like my gf, I started watching their behavior. I thought it was so interesting when they would run into each other in line, and talk really quick, then move on down the line. And now, I'm hooked on YT ant videos lol. They really are so cool, and you guys on YT make these videos so well.
Honestly, this channel is much easier to watch and enjoy than AntsCanada because it's clear and there are no clickbait-ey titles or overdeveloped (but non-existent) plots. It's just ants! Great video!
I always find the jumping jacks very interesting, I had no idea that ants could jump and when I found out I became more intrigued I loved the fact that they look soo cool with their yellow pincers and ho big they are, I like bigger ants as they are much easier to observe. I then decided I wanted to raise my own colony and so I went out to look for a jumping jack in it’s nuptial season and I started raising them it was such an interesting journey and I even once thought I lost them and started freaking out I thought o lost my favourite type of ant but then one day I found them inside one of my biggest colony of ants, they had managed to escape and go into another out world, I managed to get them back out and into a new enclosure they’re my jumping little trouble makers 😍

I CLICKED THAT NOTIFICATION SOOOOO FAST My favourite species is Pheidole (big headed ants) , I remember seeing them on a documentary when I was little and thought that the majors were a separate species being friendly to the workers in a symbiotic relationship. I begged my parents for years to let me keep ants but they said no and I remember when I turned ten they finally let me. I adore pheidole because of their power in numbers,small size,coordination and how they have separate sizes and all have a special role in the colony especially when I feed them hard foods like nuts 🥜 and bugs🕷 The week I turned 10 I discovered your channel and saw your Pheidole video but this only made me more eager to get a colony of Pheidole. I searched my garden everyday after school loooking for bigheaded ants having their nuptial flights but never found any. I was so upset and told my parents who researched them and discovered that they don’t live in my area (the uk) so yesterday as a post birthday present when I got home there was a batch of eggs two workers and a pheidole queen in a test tube on the table!!! Finally after years I have a pheidole colony to raise and continually watch your videos almost daily after school just to check that there are no small details on ant keeping Ive missed to help me care for my colony! My favorite ant colony is the bull ant colony as they are so large and easy to observe. Their behavior is different from most ants which makes them very interesting to me. Also, there are no bull ants where I live so they just naturally pique my curiosity. Love the vid!
Don’t know why but the Sugar ants covering the entrance to the bull ants nest is funny maybe because it sounds like a good prank to pull on someone and it looks like they were setting up the prank and then got caught red handed
Ever since you did your video on bull ant room tour your jack jumpers have just amazed me. The way they cautiously creep around looking almost ancient like they belong in a Jurassic park movie and how they seem to have a personality just enthralled me since then it's always been my dream to keep a bull ant colony.
i just love the bull ants, their big eyes make them so expressive and cute. the way they move their heads around to look at things makes them seem full of personality, they're adorable.
If they're anything like crickets, they actually are full of personality. I raised and studied crickets for years. And I was shocked by how different each individual cricket could be. They definitely did have personalities. 🦗

@@repeatdefender6032 It really was cool.I've had wild caught Texas field crickets as pets. But the kind that I raised and studied for years were house crickets - the kind found at pet stores and sold as food for other animals. I also raised greater anglewing katydids. I studied all three. I also wondered originally if they had personalities or any kind of self awareness or intelligence. So, I learned to identify them by noticing tiny flaws in each. Maybe a bent left antenna, a nick here, ding there. (Not caused by me, of course) And then I watched them. A lot. Lol. And I learned that not only do they show self awareness, but they each behave slightly differently. Personalities. I also learned their body language. And learned that they have a hierarchy and societal rules. I found that to be true for the katydids and the crickets. They were aware of me, too. And even knew the difference between me and other people. I used to let the katydids out when I'd redo their vivarium with fresh leaves. Some of them would choose to be near me, but not other people. And some just wanted to explore. All these little creatures were absolutely fascinating to me to study. I don't know if ants are the same or not. But my guess would be that they are. Especially the bull ants since they function more individually. I wonder if you could learn to tell any of yours apart. If so, you can learn about your guys just like I learned about mine. I would absolutely love to hear what you find if you try. PS, I also watched a lot to see how they seemed to detect the world. And if if was at all like we do. It really was fascinating studying them. Maybe I'll write a book someday.
@@virglibrsaglove that is amazing! i love katydids, they show up in my yard a lot and i like to photograph them. they definitely seem to have personality. your cricket observing sounds a lot like things i do, i think we're pretty equal on the nerd scale, lol. i do watch my ants really closely, the tetramorium ants are really small and too hard to observe in that way. you can just make out their difference in size between the regular workers and the larger "majors", and the queens are enormous but they never come out. the camponotus ants are larger so it's a bit easier to watch them, but again, once the colony gets bigger they're just too small, fast, and multitudinous to pay specific attention to; and their flaws are too small notice, mostly. i can see how each one acts and reacts to the world differently when they're out and about in the terrarium, and i can see how each one is doing a different job. I'd love to have an even bigger species like the bull ants to watch.

I embraced my inner nerd a long time ago and just full on enjoy things like this. 😊 Your ants sounds like a lot of fun to watch and raise. 🦗👍 I think you would really enjoy having a cricket vivarium in addition. They require pretty much the exact same care and setup as ants do, from what I can see. I had mine in a 10 gallon aquarium with a mesh top that I lined with an extra layer of screen so the babies wouldn't slip through. Well, actually two of those plus a 5 gallon. Lol. And my light was incandescent so that it would add more heat. But otherwise, it was the same care that I see in the video here. And there's so much to learn about them by observation. Language, societal norms, individuality, life stages, environmental impact, food preferences. The list goes on and on. Yep. Definite nerdiness. Lol.🤣 Plus, I really like the way they sound. The katydids were an absolute pleasure to have and watch. And listen to. Especially watching the whole life cycle. I even got to watch a few molt into their adult form with their beautiful wings unfolding. But they were a ton of work because they only eat fresh greens and are particular about what kinds. So, I did a lot of gathering food for them and replenishing their little forest. They were worth it, though. I will probably have both again someday when I am more settled. And possibly ants, too. I think I would like a nice big species of ant. Ooo! What about carpenter ants!? Those would be wonderful to have! Btw, it's nice to have a fellow bug nerd to geek out with! My favorite colony is Camponotus Pennsylvanicus! It was the first colony I was able to keep and has introduced me to the ups and downs of ant keeping. The colony started strong and reached 10 workers. Then there was a worker death and only one worker was left. Now the colony is up to ~60 workers and going strong! It is the colony I introduce to friends and family to show the wonders of keeping ants! Love the channel and keep the updates coming!

My favorite ant colony by far are these very same bull ants. They're big and strong with a nasty sting, but they're also curious and slightly timid - it's a wonderful dichotomy that makes them fascinating to watch and study. Plus, the fact that they can see you, and react to you and your actions makes me want a colony of my own something fierce. Alas I cannot get them in the US, but thanks to your videos I have been able to enjoy them to my hearts content. The fact that they're in a gorgeous terrarium is icing on the cake. I'm like a kid in a candy store every time I get to see them.
That's a really nice vivarium. Very pretty! 👍 And it makes me miss mine. I've had quite a few. My two favorites, though, were my Greater Anglewing katydids and my crickets. I enjoyed both immensely! And I miss having them quite a bit. The sound in the home is not the same without them. When I am more settled someday I will probably have both again. Thank you for the very nice video! 👍
The Pheidole/ big headed ants are my favourite ant colony of yours. I love how they have HUGE super majors and tiny minors and how they organise themselves when foraging for food. Love the video!

My favourite ant colony of yours is your old Iridomyrmex Sp colony featured in your early videos. I loved seeing how so many workers in such a large colony can work together and all support the one queen. That colony was the reason that I started ant keeping, seeing how such a common ant species can grant so much love and respect.
Your trap jaw colony is my favorite because of the sheer ferocity the colony gives off. They can jump away using their quick jaws that are said to be the fastest in the animal kingdom and the way you show them just interests me even more! Thanks for your content and I wish you good luck.

I have become intrigued by ants a year or two ago and only recently discovered your channel. I personally love your Argentine ant colony, the sheer size of the colony baffles me that coupled with the massive amount of queens ants. It has always amazed me how intricate the ants social system is that colonies that big can function as almost one unit.
My favorite ant in your collection would have to be your strobe ants I love strobe ants and have been searching for a queen for quite a while and sadly have not found one although it's bound to happen soon as they are the second most common ant in my area (after polirachus austalis) I love strobe ants movements and the way they act in the wild
My favourite ant that you have is the big heads because I think that there personality is interesting and they are one of the most unique ants I have seen. I have just got my first ant queen and will need a bigger nest area soon because I am still using one test tube and a tub as and out world. I had Queensland green ants in primary school. Been watching Ants Canada for years as I did not know of any ants I liked in Aus till I saw your videos. Now my wife is planning on getting one for our kids to watch. Keep up the great work.
My favourite colony has to be those giant bull ants. I just find them so fascinating, and I like how because bull ants have great vision they seem curious once they spot you. Bull ants are so cool, and their size is truly something to marvel at.
Mine all just dealt with my raising critters. I had crickets and big beautiful green Katydids among other things. Not having them wasn't really an option. Lol

My favorite ant colony is that of the bull ants. I enjoy the sizes of all the ants ranging from the super majors to workers, it amazes me how each ant has its own role. That role is then performed to perfection through the body shapes of each of the ants.
By far my favourite colony is the Pheidole. I love the fact they’re accepting of multiple queens and I love that they have different sub species like workers and majors. I would love to start my first colony with these.

My Favorite Ants featured on your channel are probably your Gaint Bull Ants, because they are so big and so slow growing, that it makes Ant keeping more special. Where i live the ants are so small, that colonies grow so quick and it doesn’t feel very special. But at the same time, i love all of your ants, as well as pretty much every species, for being unique and specialized for there workplace.

I 100% like your Pheidole colony the most. I just love Pheidole and I've watched that colony grow for years now. They make me feel very happy inside and I could watch them all day. I really like how they have completely take over the naturalistic setup with tunnels and chambers everywhere. I also love the big majors and how the colony has three queens. @@acrab7722 well, actually in most countries it is not illegal to import/export ants, except for the us and partially, aus, tho you can get a license for aus. And also I will be assuming you learned this from ac, and he is not someone you should put your trust in

bullants are great! their behavior indicates a level of intelligence more akin to ours, than the typical "lemmings" type ant. They display clear traits of curiosity and caution. the way they know to moderate their response to threats could teach a few "humans" lessons, too. this coming from a fellow aussie thats been stung more than a few times by the little buggers lol. can i suggest, place a camera to take timelapse video of them foraging, hunting, maybe playing? do they sweep their area in any kind of systematic manner or is it random each night? lots of questions sorry lol
I love your pheidole ants because I like how their setup went from a desert theme to being overgrown it gives it a sense of nature also because I have a 3 pheidole queens and wish mine will be like that so it gives me something’s to look forward too

When I was starting up my own ant colony I used tips off of your videos to set up and have a thriving Formica Fusca ant colony now! around 6 months old. You were my inspiration when I thought I didn't want to keep them but watching your vids gave me a boost of confidence and It was so cute to see them moving in. :D
Bull ants by far hit the top for me. I grew up with these painful meaty ants and have always found a respect for them where others find fear or hate. They are truely not to be trifled with, but when given space and respect you get to meet their calmer more inquisitive side. :)

Ants Australia, My favorite ant colony featured on your channel is your Rainbow ant colony, as after watching your videos I have finally managed to capture my first ant queen, which was also a Rainbow ant Queen. What I find fascinating about the ant species is how fast a queen is able to produce workers and grow the colony to such massive populations. After two short months my young colony of rainbow ants have already around 40 workers. I absolutely love ant keeping so far!!! I hope to one day have a colony of golden tailed sugar ants (Camponotus aeneopilosus), they are my dream species.

Im most fascinated by your massive Bull ants. I knew they were big but watching crickets wander amongst them makes me realise how big they actually are, its insane. I also love how they are a bit different than most other species, the way they hunt and feed their larvae is super fascinating. Awesome video! Loved every minute. My favourite one of your colonies is the Bull Ants. Their huge size, interesting and unique behaviour from other ants and also that each species of bull ants is different, some aggressive, some timid, different colour etc. I have watched them several times.
My favourite colony of yours is definitely the big headed ants. Seeing the vast differences in their caste sizes inspired me to find my own pheidole queens. It was my first time looking for queens and I managed to find just two. So far they have laid a few eggs, but I am hoping to see more development now that the weather is warming up
My favorite is the bull ant colony. Not only are they gargantuan in size compared to most ants they also contradict normal ant behavior by being solitary hunters. And I also Like the Fact that they have such good eye sight because it makes it feel like you can accualy interract with your ants.
I have seen these guys working in teams and coordinating their attacks. Kinda like wolves. One will flush out a cockroach and chase it towards where 2 or 3 other ants are waiting to pounce. Or if you get too close to their nest a lone ant will distract you while its friends sneak around behind you, climb your boots, and sting you on the back of the leg. They are vicious and will keep stinging you over and over until you get them off.
I just got here thinking "Yeah I'll just watch a couple of minutes" and when I realized I watched the entire thing. So interesting!

I was so upset and told my parents who researched them and discovered that they don’t live in my area (the uk) so yesterday as a post birthday present when I got home there was a batch of eggs two workers and a pheidole queen in a test tube on the table!!! Finally after years I have a pheidole colony to raise and continually watch your videos almost daily after school just to check that there are no small details on ant keeping Ive missed to help me care for my colony!

My favorite ant colony is the bull ant colony as they are so large and easy to observe. Their behavior is different from most ants which makes them very interesting to me. Also, there are no bull ants where I live so they just naturally pique my curiosity. Love the vid!

Ever since you did your video on bull ant room tour your jack jumpers have just amazed me. The way they cautiously creep around looking almost ancient like they belong in a Jurassic park movie and how they seem to have a personality just enthralled me since then it's always been my dream to keep a bull ant colony.
i just love the bull ants, their big eyes make them so expressive and cute. the way they move their heads around to look at things makes them seem full of personality, they're adorable.
If they're anything like crickets, they actually are full of personality. I raised and studied crickets for years. And I was shocked by how different each individual cricket could be. They definitely did have personalities. 🦗

@@repeatdefender6032 It really was cool.I've had wild caught Texas field crickets as pets. But the kind that I raised and studied for years were house crickets - the kind found at pet stores and sold as food for other animals. I also raised greater anglewing katydids. I studied all three. I also wondered originally if they had personalities or any kind of self awareness or intelligence. So, I learned to identify them by noticing tiny flaws in each. Maybe a bent left antenna, a nick here, ding there. (Not caused by me, of course) And then I watched them. A lot. Lol. And I learned that not only do they show self awareness, but they each behave slightly differently. Personalities. I also learned their body language. And learned that they have a hierarchy and societal rules. I found that to be true for the katydids and the crickets. They were aware of me, too. And even knew the difference between me and other people. I used to let the katydids out when I'd redo their vivarium with fresh leaves. Some of them would choose to be near me, but not other people. And some just wanted to explore. All these little creatures were absolutely fascinating to me to study. I don't know if ants are the same or not. But my guess would be that they are. Especially the bull ants since they function more individually. I wonder if you could learn to tell any of yours apart. If so, you can learn about your guys just like I learned about mine. I would absolutely love to hear what you find if you try. PS, I also watched a lot to see how they seemed to detect the world. And if if was at all like we do. It really was fascinating studying them. Maybe I'll write a book someday.

your cricket observing sounds a lot like things i do, i think we're pretty equal on the nerd scale, lol.
i do watch my ants really closely, the tetramorium ants are really small and too hard to observe in that way. you can just make out their difference in size between the regular workers and the larger "majors", and the queens are enormous but they never come out.
the camponotus ants are larger so it's a bit easier to watch them, but again, once the colony gets bigger they're just too small, fast, and multitudinous to pay specific attention to; and their flaws are too small notice, mostly. i can see how each one acts and reacts to the world differently when they're out and about in the terrarium, and i can see how each one is doing a different job.
I'd love to have an even bigger species like the bull ants to watch.

I think you would really enjoy having a cricket vivarium in addition. They require pretty much the exact same care and setup as ants do, from what I can see. I had mine in a 10 gallon aquarium with a mesh top that I lined with an extra layer of screen so the babies wouldn't slip through. Well, actually two of those plus a 5 gallon. Lol. And my light was incandescent so that it would add more heat. But otherwise, it was the same care that I see in the video here.
And there's so much to learn about them by observation. Language, societal norms, individuality, life stages, environmental impact, food preferences. The list goes on and on. Yep. Definite nerdiness. Lol.🤣 Plus, I really like the way they sound.
The katydids were an absolute pleasure to have and watch. And listen to. Especially watching the whole life cycle. I even got to watch a few molt into their adult form with their beautiful wings unfolding. But they were a ton of work because they only eat fresh greens and are particular about what kinds. So, I did a lot of gathering food for them and replenishing their little forest. They were worth it, though.
I will probably have both again someday when I am more settled. And possibly ants, too. I think I would like a nice big species of ant.

My favorite colony is Camponotus Pennsylvanicus! It was the first colony I was able to keep and has introduced me to the ups and downs of ant keeping. The colony started strong and reached 10 workers. Then there was a worker death and only one worker was left. Now the colony is up to ~60 workers and going strong! It is the colony I introduce to friends and family to show the wonders of keeping ants!

My favorite ant colony by far are these very same bull ants. They're big and strong with a nasty sting, but they're also curious and slightly timid - it's a wonderful dichotomy that makes them fascinating to watch and study. Plus, the fact that they can see you, and react to you and your actions makes me want a colony of my own something fierce. Alas I cannot get them in the US, but thanks to your videos I have been able to enjoy them to my hearts content. The fact that they're in a gorgeous terrarium is icing on the cake. I'm like a kid in a candy store every time I get to see them.

That's a really nice vivarium. Very pretty! 👍 And it makes me miss mine. I've had quite a few. My two favorites, though, were my Greater Anglewing katydids and my crickets. I enjoyed both immensely! My favourite ant colony of yours is your old Iridomyrmex Sp colony featured in your early videos. I loved seeing how so many workers in such a large colony can work together and all support the one queen. That colony was the reason that I started ant keeping, seeing how such a common ant species can grant so much love and respect.

I have become intrigued by ants a year or two ago and only recently discovered your channel. I personally love your Argentine ant colony, the sheer size of the colony baffles me that coupled with the massive amount of queens ants. It has always amazed me how intricate the ants social system is that colonies that big can function as almost one unit.
My favorite ant in your collection would have to be your strobe ants I love strobe ants and have been searching for a queen for quite a while and sadly have not found one although it's bound to happen soon as they are the second most common ant in my area (after polirachus austalis) I love strobe ants movements and the way they act in the wild
My favourite ant that you have is the big heads because I think that there personality is interesting and they are one of the most unique ants I have seen. I have just got my first ant queen and will need a bigger nest area soon because I am still using one test tube and a tub as and out world. My favourite colony has to be those giant bull ants. I just find them so fascinating, and I like how because bull ants have great vision they seem curious once they spot you. Bull ants are so cool, and their size is truly something to marvel at.

My favorite ant colony is that of the bull ants. I enjoy the sizes of all the ants ranging from the super majors to workers, it amazes me how each ant has its own role. That role is then performed to perfection through the body shapes of each of the ants.

My Favorite Ants featured on your channel are probably your Gaint Bull Ants, because they are so big and so slow growing, that it makes Ant keeping more special. Where i live the ants are so small, that colonies grow so quick and it doesn’t feel very special.
But at the same time, i love all of your ants, as well as pretty much every species, for being unique and specialized for there workplace.
You should probably remove the weeds on the left side, and keep the rest of the weeds because it gives some more... variety.
My favourite colony would definitely be your giant bull ants. They are so intelligent for a ant and as a keeper of them myself they are truly fascinating. The length of time it takes to go from egg to worker gives you such a great sense of achievement which I am sure you have experienced. They are also very easy to see and are truly unique. I think my favorite Ant colony that is featured on your channel is probably these awesome Giant bull Ants. Because it's amazing to see how they differ from other ants. I love how they look so ferocious but in actuality the adults are nectarivores. Just shows you to never judge a book by its cover.

I 100% like your Pheidole colony the most. I just love Pheidole and I've watched that colony grow for years now. They make me feel very happy inside and I could watch them all day. I really like how they have completely take over the naturalistic setup with tunnels and chambers everywhere. I also love the big majors and how the colony has three queens. bullants are great! their behavior indicates a level of intelligence more akin to ours, than the typical "lemmings" type ant. They display clear traits of curiosity and caution. the way they know to moderate their response to threats could teach a few "humans" lessons, too. this coming from a fellow aussie thats been stung more than a few times by the little buggers lol. can i suggest, place a camera to take timelapse video of them foraging, hunting, maybe playing? do they sweep their area in any kind of systematic manner or is it random each night? lots of questions sorry lol

When I was starting up my own ant colony I used tips off of your videos to set up and have a thriving Formica Fusca ant colony now! around 6 months old. You were my inspiration when I thought I didn't want to keep them but watching your vids gave me a boost of confidence and It was so cute to see them moving in. :D
Bull ants by far hit the top for me. I grew up with these painful meaty ants and have always found a respect for them where others find fear or hate. They are truely not to be trifled with, but when given space and respect you get to meet their calmer more inquisitive side. :)

Ants Australia, My favorite ant colony featured on your channel is your Rainbow ant colony, as after watching your videos I have finally managed to capture my first ant queen, which was also a Rainbow ant Queen. What I find fascinating about the ant species is how fast a queen is able to produce workers and grow the colony to such massive populations. After two short months my young colony of rainbow ants have already around 40 workers. I absolutely love ant keeping so far!!! I hope to one day have a colony of golden tailed sugar ants (Camponotus aeneopilosus), they are my dream species.

My favourite one of your colonies is the Bull Ants. Their huge size, interesting and unique behaviour from other ants and also that each species of bull ants is different, some aggressive, some timid, different colour etc. I have watched them several times.
My favourite colony of yours is definitely the big headed ants. Seeing the vast differences in their caste sizes inspired me to find my own pheidole queens. It was my first time looking for queens and I managed to find just two. So far they have laid a few eggs, but I am hoping to see more development now that the weather is warming up
My favorite is the bull ant colony. Not only are they gargantuan in size compared to most ants they also contradict normal ant behavior by being solitary hunters. And I also Like the Fact that they have such good eye sight because it makes it feel like you can accualy interract with your ants.
I have seen these guys working in teams and coordinating their attacks. Kinda like wolves. One will flush out a cockroach and chase it towards where 2 or 3 other ants are waiting to pounce. Or if you get too close to their nest a lone ant will distract you while its friends sneak around behind you, climb your boots, and sting you on the back of the leg. They are vicious and will keep stinging you over and over until you get them off.
