It’s called life. Everyone is attracted to different people. This dude is a sweet heart but Steve was her choice. Can’t judge her for that.
Mary didn't love him. She was only marrying him because Steve (the man she really loves) was marrying someone else. Notice how she didn't even say yes, she wrote OK.
Doctor $$$ lifestyle. Sure massimo loves her but if thats all hes got theyll starve to death.
I always Felt a little sorry for Massimo.
His heart was absolutely broken.
And at the end of the movie, he did not get the girl or any girl.
I honestly think he would have a lot to offer and be a great husband to the right girl.

I kind of wish she did love him. Because this whole moment was so sweet.
She should have picked him. He was focused on a future, being a provider, being there. Steve got bored of the girl he’d with for so long. Prob ended up getting bored with her in the future.
the problem is, you can't just bring yourself to love someone. If she had married him, maybe he would have been a good husband (probably better than Steve), but she would never have been happy with him.

@@theimprovedmama3288 It's human nature to suggest something to someone you love, because it worked out for themselves, but it's not the case for everybody to turn out the same way. Her father was just lucky, that he and his wife eventually had fallen in love. Sure he loves his daughter and wants her to fell the same type of happiness, but out of Marias persepctive it wouldn't make much sense, to invest a lot of time into something, where there is no presence of any romatic feelings from the beginning, with high chances of waiting forever for something to come up, when she already met somebody that she clicked with. You can respect someone with your whole heart but never love them, it's possible, especially when you are not attracted to them physically. It sounds shallow but it's part of the attraction. Also the father never asked Maria what she actually looked for, if she even wanted to have a family. And with Massimo it was simply not something she searched for.
I personally would have chosen Massimo but that's because he is my type and has a matching mindset. I am not attracted to Steve.

I mean, they nearly kiss that one time--Mary even calls him out on it--and then he confesses he has a thing for her, and the only reason it doesn't turn into something more is that Mary respects Fran too much to do that to her. Steve might not have a physical affair with Mary, but he's sure as heck being emotionally unfaithful to his fiancee.
