My first cd player was a Sanyo back in 1986 that looked and operated the same way. There were many brands that were also similar. The Akai reel to reel is nice, but to me the crown jewels in this system are the McIntosh power amp and the Heathkit preamp. They look fantastic and I know they sound delicious!!!

Nice system young lady. I'm 68 and remember the good old days or as some such as myself refer to it as the golden era as the Japanese were very aggressive with introducing better and bigger products that were a bargain, especially if you were stationed over there (Japan). I miss my Teac reel to reel and other outstanding equipment after watching this! You're equipment is as current as you like, it's what you enjoy and that's what's important. Very nice system.

    Hello Geraldine,
Seeing your entire setup reminded me of a pleasant surprise that I received back in 1979. I came home from school and in my room, already set up was a brand new Zenith stereo system. I must e been the only 10 1/2 year old in my neighborhood who was a proud owner of a brand-new HiFi stereo system that an adult would own.
My grandmother bought it for me. It was the Zenith IS 4020 receiver with two Zenith Allegro floor-standing (2-way) speakers. It even came with a three-tier stand for the receiver and matching two little stands for the speakers.
Somebody on TH-cam actually uploaded a video of this particular receiver.
The Zenith IS 4020 receiver had a built-in turntable on top and also a front loading 8-track with the usual AM/FM Tuner that glowed beautifully.
The Zenith Allegro 2-way speakers were front-ported each with a tweeter and an 8-inch woofer.
Over the next few years I added a cassette deck by SHARP because 8-tracks were already being slowly phased out by 1979/80 and I also added a Panasonic 7-band equalizer and two additional 2-way speakers (same size but they weren't made by Zenith) allowing me to run 4 speakers at the same time. It sounded fantastic.
I kept it for 11 years before I replaced it with a Kenwood Spectrum stereo rack system. I bought the flagship model which was called either the Spectrum 790 or 890.
That Zenith stereo was fantastic and so was that Kenwood. I miss them both.
Your entire setup is totally fantastic!
What you are doing with your channel awesome and also very important. The world needs more women out there doing this kind of thing so keep at this because you're very good at it.
Ignore all of the people who can't be nice who are clearly insecure. Never let them ever discourage you otherwise you'll give them exactly what they want.
Be yourself and you'll be successful. I'm looking forward to your next video.

Wow, I can’t believe that you get hate for your speakers. Those are TAD speakers, which was a division of Pioneer. People should take a look at what new speakers from this company cost. Anyway, great system with so many unique and rare pieces!!! Cheers

People have funny prejudices about what certain manufacturers could and couldn't do. Similar to people who think Sony never made good speakers. Just not true. Like Geraldine's speakers, might have been limited run or not have been mass market release, but these companies could knock together high level stuff when they wanted. Brands like Hitachi and Mitsubishi/Diatone also fly under the radar for a lot of people.

That's an awesome system to say the least. The Akai tape deck can elevate it to an even higher level by assembling your own mixtapes. Carefully filled with selections of tracks from many albums, the tapes can become the centerpiece of the system. With changeovers from one album and artist to the next on each tape well chosen, tapes autoreversed can each deliver 3 hours of continous music enjoyment for every mood. It takes time, effort and patience to build a tape collection like that but it's well worth it.

Hi Geraldine! Really enjoyed your vintage system! I have been into audio since I was a teenager ( mid/late 60's) and have had many components over the years. I love that stuff and own audio items from a vintage Victrola 78 RPM crank up record player to a full blown 5.1 surround system in the main living room. But I also have a dedicated music room with vintage Pioneer components including an RT909 reel to reel machine, a Pioneer PL55X direct drive turntable, and a Pioneer SA77 integrated amplifier. The amp is driving some modest Polk bookshelf speakers, but I can also Bluetooth the audio to the main system in the living room if I want. I also have a 1965 Wurlitzer jukebox that still works in the music room. I have a Marrantz cassette deck in that room but is not hooked up yet, but I will do that eventually. Vintage audio is a fun hobby and it is refreshing to see other peoples systems! I will subscribe to your channel and look forward to more of your videos! Chris from Florida.

I even scored one with the original wood case. Meanwhile, I found a 1974 Pioneer PL-51 turntable, an ADC "Memory 5" equalizer, and some mint Infinity RS 3000 speakers. Most of my current components are original purchase in l970's/80's. My Hitachi SR-804 receiver has bidirectional dubbing and has a Pioneer RG-2 expander on tape 1 with a Teac X-3 open reel deck on the expander tape loop. Tape 2 has a Sound Shaper Two IC graphic EQ that has bidirectional dubbing on the EQ. Connected cassette decks are Denon DRM-800A and Yamaha KX-260. Switching flexibility is very satisfactory. A Pioneer PL-518 turntable with Shure M95HE pickup on phono and Sony CDP-CE275 CD player on Aux input. Speakers are Ohm model L's in living room and Ohm H's in dining room. Headphones are Koss Pro4X. those Pioneer's were a joint effort with TAD, all you gotta do to impress the audiophilez is show them how much TAD speakers cost and they'll shut right up

Great set-up! I have never seen a cassette deck like that! Nor the CD player! ••• I've had my Akai GX77 since 1982. I've had to have it repaired once before, and it needs it again, but I'll never part with it. ••• I'll definitely be checking out more of you videos.

Looks very legit, you have a unique and interesting mixing of components. What really matters is that you enjoy it, nobody can define your tastes for you. Really rare to see women dive this deeply into the hobby, and to be this into it. Well done. Also nice to see special rare vintage gear that is still all functioning well, that alone says something about your passion.

Fantastic ! My dream is to find out where I can find such amazing machines. I'm taking my first steps into the world of vintage devices. They bring us into an intimate relationship with music. I love analogue. Congratulations here from Brazil.

You have a great vintage gear setup Geraldine. I have a set of Pioneer speakers cs g103 that I bought back in the early 90's probably around 93 or so and they sound great. I also have a pioneer receiver that I got around the same time.
