    Great video, it’s nice that you didn’t start by calling it a beginners bike. Some of us can remember when a 500 was a big bike. I got a CL a couple of weeks ago and would recommend giving one a go.

    I'm surprised there was no mention of the Svartpilen 401 as a competitor. Pricing and horsepower numbers are more similar than the Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki bikes mentioned. Case in point: I got tired of waiting for the CL500 to be announced for the USA and bought a Svartpilen instead. Other bikes I was considering were the 411cc Enfields. Anyway, great review on what looks to be a great bike.

      How’s the Svart for occasional gravel/washboard roads? I’m on my second Duke, but recently moved to an area where every other ride winds up running out of pavement, and have been thinking about either the 401 or 701 (of which there are still a few around).

    • @TheWhoisthisjohn
      @TheWhoisthisjohn ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dbwindhorst1 It's great. I had it out last weekend for a 250-mile day of gravel, washboards, mud, etc. It did fine. My butt was sore at the end of the day, but the bike didn't mind. Granted, I've never owned a proper dirt bike, so I don't know what I'm missing. But if your goal is "occasional" gravel roads, the 401 works just fine.

    Have to agree with its main rival being the CMX - I was looking to downsize to the CMX, but they had the CL available for demo, I ordered the green one, did not get on with the Rebel's riding position (2 hr test ride is not the best way to judge, I have never owned a cruiser) My retirement present for some country lane exploration :)

      Hi I’ve done very similar,as I’m getting on a bit and don’t need big speeds anymore I got the rebel in 2021 but now have a green CL. It’s much more comfortable and fits me perfectly. I think you’ll love it.

    All Honda has to do is use the cb750s crank in the 500 and 250 twin for that 270⁰ sound. Give the CL usd forks mono shock rear both long travel from the cbx with a fixed headlight like a Husqvarna Norden 901 only with the head light covered with a tiny cowl to only cover the head light.

    Decent looking, personally I've never liked the angle on the tank. Looks like it's trying too hard to want to be a chopper, almost like a mini Fury. Would look much better if they covered the framework under the tank. Kudos to Honda for sticking with it even though it really doesn't work.

    • @e.l.9589
      @e.l.9589 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The tank angle gives you the feeling of being in the bike, as opposed to some that makes you feel on the bike. I liked it best when looking for a first bike.

    • @lastsonofkrypton36
      @lastsonofkrypton36 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Completely agree. I dislike the angle on the Rebel, which this follows. A scrambler should have a level looking tank.

    Honda could have designed the fuel tank not to look like the rebel 's, and cover the front of the frame, has got potential for customising.

  • @alandean2
    @alandean2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've ridden the CMX 500 Rebel and found the pegs a bit too far forward for me. The CL500 shares the same frame as the CMX you say. Are the pegs, gear shifter & front brake sited the same?

  • @thebrowns5337
    @thebrowns5337 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Personally I welcome most safety ideas being rolled out, especially stuff like the hazards on hard breaking. It makes riders more visible when situations are sketchy.
    If you're activating it all the time you're leaving braking too late and you aren't riding smoothly. Chances are you need all the safety features you can get.
    Also if a rider is distracted by their own lights I suggest they might want a different hobby - we don't need road users that are so easily distracted and bamboozled.
    They didn't come on during 'normal' riding on this test so I find the comment odd. And surely if this is a big issue, as it's just software, Honda can lfash updates at a service. They sell a lot of bikes worldwide, they will know if it's an issue.

    Do you think the CL500 would be a good Bike to Cope with Uk Potholed Roads?

    • @shardlake
      @shardlake ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Until mine arrives at the dealer, can only give you my view from a 2hr test ride, my dealer is on a 70mph dual carriage way with no way of turning round for about 20 miles, so I ended up on some very narrow pothole, gravel and moss riddled country lanes after working out I could do a big loop back to the main road, it did very well, I later left the dealer on my MT03 doing nearly the same route, it was not as settled, the 19" on the CL soaks up much more. Even so I still tried to avoid some of the larger potholes some a big enough to lose an entire bike in...
