The swing on the right is really bad. Tony Gwynn did not swing down. He took the knob to the ball and his bat flattened out early. Taking the knob to the ball is not swinging down. I'm an advocate of both swings of Puljos's lateral tilt and turning the barrel.
I'm looking for some drills to help coach turning the barrel properly. Have any drills you like for this?

I am sick and tired of coaches trying to say getting on plane is wrong, swinging slightly uphill is only way to hit properly. It's almost as if people are saying chop down just to hold you back from reach maximum potential.

on Pujols I did notice some wrist action after he had the bat flat and extending the wrist was torqued close to his body but massively twisted back then extension. talk about top hand wrist action please

Great video! You explained the proper swing path very well. In fact, if everybody viewing this video passed high school physics, there would be no disagreement on this subject. A batter simply cannot propel a ball 4oo feet for a home run by hitting down on the ball. The swing plane has to be approximately 20 degrees in an upward direction. Some home run hitters have a swing plane close to 30 degrees. People who disagree with your video, don't realize that they are violating the laws of physics and are consequently wrong.

the hi-leg kick can be a timing issue VS bat plain or being in the zone.
The earlier young players can catch on to your videos the better!

Is the proper bat path always one that matches the path of the pitch? For example, do MLB players swing at a steeper angle when launching a home run as opposed to a low line drive? Or is that more a matter of what part of the barrel contacts the ball?
I'd say launch angle has to do with bat path of the hitter and where on the ball they hit. Thanks for watching our videos and commenting!

I would like you to tell me what i am doing wrong. When i swing after my back foot rotates it looks like i tip toe. Do you know any solution or drills for my problem?
Raymundo Lorenzo if you are hitting then don't change it. And if you are not hitting don't change it it's a mental thing.
Most hitters back foot comes off the ground or on their top at contact because of how fast your hips are turning and the back foot doesn't actually have any weight on it at a certain point in the swing.

I need to up there whole training,from kids to men,gils women...I am from the US. and self taught...ok there is virtue in that,but I know having self taught myself many things,one will get teck things very wrong as well. I've been trying to find a good video to explain this concept to my 10U son and ran across this. He is a very visual learner, and a pretty solid hitter currently. After showing him this video, and explaining the reasoning behind it, he was instantly hitting the ball with more power and even better contact. Great video!! I would like to explain the probable rationale behind that coach's bad technique, which is an erroneous understanding of physics.
They are wrongly emphasizing a downward swing to allegedly achieve more backspin to cause more batted ball flight distance. Here are the pertinent physics:
Firstly, if the plane of the center of mass of the bat perfectly meets the plane of the center of mass of the pitched ball, the batted ball is a knuckle ball, which is very rare and difficult to accomplish. Secondly, if the pitch is a silly millimeter above the bat (assuming same plane), the ball will ALWAYS exit the bat with backspin - in this case a line drive; a few more millimeters above that, it's a homerun; a few more millimeters above that, and it's a lazy fly ball. Thirdly, given the above same plane situation but the ball is a silly millimeter below the bat, the ball departs the bat with top spin, the result being a ground ball.
I have engaged too many coaches and parents about their misinformed ideas in this regard. Hope you have the time to read this.
