There is no trace of the artist in this drawing. It is a mechanical representation of the eye. Jono is competing with a camera. Of course this is an insanely high degree of craft here, but no self expression, style, interpretation or art. It represents obsessive/compulsive behavior. This reminds me of the days when photography was not as sophisticated and artists were employed as medical draftsmen to aid surgeons and medical students. Not the kind of art I would want hanging in my house.
This is such good advice. I have worked in pencil, but what you are saying applies to watercolour too. Paying for better quality paper, means that not only should you push through problems, but you are able to do just that because cheap paper will tend to fall apart before you rectify your problems. Certainly this is the case with watercolours. The better papers are very forgiving. I wouldn’t even attempt to correct a problem on cheap paper unless it was a simple error. The grain holds better and allows you to put down more graphite and with watercolour I can lift off paint several times over. Thank you for talking about your work. You clearly are a genius in your field.

Hi Jono! Thanks for this video. How long (how many hours) does it take in between you wetting your paper and drawing on the paper? Do you begin drawing on it as soon as it's completely dry or you try to elapse a particular time before actually drawing on it?
Loved it and thank you for letting us know the good quality of paper required
