I recently did a complete restoration on a friends ATK 260LQ, ATK still has a following here in the states but they are getting harder to find, very unique bikes and the early 4 strokes were legendary bikes especially some that were custom built for motocross, they are still selling parts in Utah out of a warehouse that used to be part of the factory.
I have owned left side kick bikes now for near 30 years. I learned how to start it left footed immediately. Why is it nobody else can seem to adapt to doing this. It really isn't that hard. Commit to doing it and after 4 or 5 rides people think you possess some sort of super power. Honestly it isn't that hard. Treat it like a old 4 stroke. Find TDC, push a little past and kick.
I usually kick it without sitting on it cold and usually will then kick it sitting on it after it gets warm. Sometimes I will jump off and start if its not starting. They have the kicker on the left side so you can start them standing next to them, it is from scrambles when you ran to your bike and had to start it. Easier to run over, kick it starting and then jump on as you take off, so starting with the right foot is fine.
We could watch u try an start a 406 while keeping bike up right and u sitting on the 406 and if u half ass kick it or it back fires we will watch your smart ass snap your foot or leg in half go ahead get 1 and kick it like u think u can we can all watch u snap your leg/ foot Inhalf and post it ..I kick it how I feel at that time and I can kick on the bike and off as if that matters ask kaplan cycle what happens when you fuk with the 406
