Also NEVER SELL REPAIR HAMMERS in Oblivion. Use them to repair all your loot. Get your skill up to the point where you can repair magic items. You'll thank me
Top tip is to not bring the amulet of kings to the blade master at the beginning and always avoid the town destroyed by the great gate kvatch. This means no oblivion gates will open and you can play all the side quests to gains some needed items before taking on the main quest with a overpowered character.
Levelling =/= power. Honestly the game is way easier at level 1 with iron weapons and armor than level 50 with daedric enchanted gear and uniques. The level scaling is so intense that if you don't seriously min/max and abuse every single possible advantage you can get + proper levelling, you'll never get stronger past level 1.
Ikr i did mages guild only level 30 and dude I don’t want to have to put more into strength :/ im already like a god and I don’t want to be like 120 with some random sword
6:35 I would advise against joining the Dark Brotherhood early. The armor and several unique quest rewards are leveled, and you don't get the strongest versions until level 30.
I would disagree on this because the DB Quests make you kill members of other Guilds. So if you are a member of that guild you will have to kill a Guildmate. Thats if you are doing a Complete playthrough. So I play Knights of the 9 then DB then Thieves then either Fighter or Mage Guilds. This way as a Noob The Blessing are quickly gathered and Once you are Done you can be Evil as Needed.
@@acyour you can roleplay a bad guy going good. You don't have to just be a good guy turned evil. There isn't much to it outside just wanting to be a good character, in that case good luck to ya because elder scrolls loves forcing questlines such as the thieves guild, dark brotherhood and Daedric quests with no choices to be had outside just being someone's flunky
@@acyour then perhaps take a lesson on grammar because that is how it came out. Playing them in any kind of order doesn't have a whole lot of benefit outside just what order you want to play them. Unless you are power leveling then you go with the shivering ailes first. I took that as what you said because you said be evil as needed and I have no idea what you mean by blessings
Used to watch my brothers play this game when I was younger but I couldn’t play it much myself because the rats scared me 😂. I’m now older and enjoy Skyrim. My oldest brother told me I’d probably like Oblivion as well so I’m here.
If you plan on using magic I highly reccomend going to all of the cities' chapels and acquiring the various Restore Attribute spells that are sold by the priests and random worshippers that are present such as the Restore Intelligence, Restore Strength, and Restore Agility spells. It's nice to not have to worry about keeping all sorts of different Restore potions in your inventory. Sometimes being debuffed and having no potions/spells can really screw you over plus, IIRC, even sleeping to level up won't remove them.
Just to say if you plan on making spells (btw I know this post was a while ago yeah) you only need one of the fortify attribute spells for access to all of them and the same for fortify skills
Sad to say but I am one of the people who are just experiencing this game im now watching this video after I picked a monk class and am now pretty far in the game and I gotta say I love it. Great vid man
I bought Oblivion 2 months ago since I remember my brother playing it years ago on the xbox 360 I'm just now experiencing it too it has a very great story it just gets crapped on because of the graphics and the npc conversation memes
About to start the game now. If it's as good as people say, I could only be happy to have never played the game and experience it for the first time. Did you like it? Also, was Morrowind good too?
@@ilikelobsters.2376 Morrowind was my first exposure to Elder Scrolls, and I liked playing it. Unfortunately, I didn't get it finished before my computer died, and I didn't want to start all over from scratch. I like the way a lot of the newer games let you play offline, but let you save progress online. That way, if you have to change what you play it on, you don't lose your progress, which is very frustrating.
You're actually partially wrong about the bonus points on leveling. Avoiding sleeping doesn't help. By the time that you get your 10th major skill increase the game has already calculated your bonus points. If you want to delay leveling up to ensure higher bonuses, you must stop leveling up major skills BEFORE you fill up the level up bar. Sleeping has no effect on this.
@@missi44 I got a mod where you get exp for every kill/quest and when you get enough to level up you get to spend points on skills and stats. I couldn't handle all the planning haha
Isn't it actually possible to efficiently level by increasing minor skills until you can secure a +5/+5/+5 in attributes ? He said in the video that only major skill-ups increase those attribute boni, but I read that minor skills do aswell - now I'm confused as a (soon) beginner of Oblivion.
@@Nr4747 Minor skills count toward your stats gained when you level. They DON'T count towards level progression. You could level up minor skills 100 times and stay level 1. Major skills make you level up which is why you typically want to wait until you've gotten enough minor skills up before you fill the exp. bar
@@charles4283 I tried that glitch today and it didn't work. At all. He had ten gold and it was able to be picked up one single time. Reloaded three times and every time it didn't work. :(

That staff apotheosis ! 99dmg a shot bought from the staff guy in the imperial market!!! One hit projectory 😂 unlimited shit and gold 💥 works 5/14/2024
Awesome guide! Just note that the 30 skills points necessary to receive the maximum +5 in 3 attributes will be divided by 20 minor skill ups (10 for each of 2 attributes) and 10 major skill ups for the 3rd attribute. You can mix and match but that gets complicating. 30 major skill ups will actually level you 3 times with only up to +5 in one category (or less but spread out) 3 times. Keep in mind your 10th major skill up must happen after the 20 minors. That 10th major will trigger the level up and those remaining minor points will go to the following level up and mess up your numbers.
As a morrowind upon release, to skyrim upon release, to oblivion now (for some reason) player; this is very helpful not having to look at old ass 144p vids to get a little knowledge before starting.
To those who didn't get your attributes to 100, kill lots of guards and get sent to prison. Serve your time and it will lower your skills allowing you to level your attributes more.
Should have probably watched the Video. I started a few weeks ago, and now have my character (level 2) on the shivering isles while having absolutely done almost nothing in the actual game xD I mean I could leave the Isles and continue later but... I don´t really wanna kill the momentum I build haha
4:00 You cannot "hold off" a level by not sleeping, nor can you ever gain 30 major skill points in a level. After gaining 10 major skill points, any skills points earned go towards the next level. So, gaining 30 major skill points would net you three levels upon sleeping. To efficiently level, one must balance major and minor skill point gains to ensure 10 skill gains across three different attributes. It's worth noting, it's not necessary to throw all your points into one skill, like destruction, for willpower; but that one needs a total of 10 skill increases across the three willpower disciplines - destruction, restoration, and alteration. The video doesn't make this quite clear. Speaking of the video, some really good information here. Just this one correction. As the dude stated, efficient leveling isn't necessary, but it can be fun if your into that sort of thing. This concept can also be used to effectively control leveling and prevent overlevelling, by selecting lesser-used, easily levellable skills as major skills.
Some tips I have for beginners: 1. Don't use a tutorial/guide. Play the game however you want to. Do not get too focused on min-maxing, gear, efficiency etc. You only get to experience it for the first time once. Figure things out yourself and be amazed at what this 16 year old game has to offer. Explore, Explore, Explore! 2. If you're into min-maxing, pick skills you won't necessarily use as your major skills. For example: If you want to make a warrior, who wears heavy armour, a sword and a shield, you'd want to focus on speed, strength and endurance. So pick magic skills as your major skills and maybe add acrobatics to them as well. Then play as you prefer, but make sure you know how many skills you've levelled to get the maximum amount of points. Raise both your blunt and blade skills from 20 to 25. That's strength done. Do this while wearing heavy armour, a shield for blocking and repair your armour yourself. (Stay away from enchanted armour/weapons until you reach 50 armorer, because you can't repair it yourself) Once those 3 skills have reached a combined 10 levels, find a corner and jump in it until a message pops up saying you've levelled up. Sleep and there you have it. +5 to strength, +5 to speed and +5 to endurance. 3. To first thing you'd want to do is to join the mages guild, the fighters guild and the thieves guild. The thieves guild gives you acces to a fence, which is super handy to gain some early money. The mages guild gives you acces to more spells and vendors. (you can loot all the alchemy supplies in a mage guild and sell it back to them) The fighters guild gives you some low level quests alongside some decent low level armour, as well as some fairly good weapons like a silver short-sword and a fine steel longsword. (which you can simply grab in the guild master's room in Chorrol) 4. Stay away from the Dark Brotherhood and Deadric Shrines until you're a higher level. A lot of rewards are level based in Oblivion and while you do not need the max that out, it is a waste to do some of the quests at level 2 rather than level 10. 5. Like stated in the video, a good start to any character is to join the Arena. It's fairly decent money and a good way to level your skills. But don't feel the need to grind through it right away. Some fights (like the orc with the glass warhammer, the three argonian prisoners and the Gray Prince if you haven't done his quest) are extremely tough and will cost you more than what you'll be able to earn from them. Be sure to save before going into the bloodworks. If a fight is too difficult, just come back at a later time. You can only tell the Blademaster you're "Ready for a Match" between 9am and 9pm, but if you've done that you can start the fight whenever you want. 6. Talk to EVERYONE. I played the game when it came out and I still come across NPC's that I've never seen before who hand me a quest that I've never done before. Most of these are a bit generic, but it's still cool to see. 7. As @eshingler29 stated, stay away from the main quest for a while. You can bring the amulet to Jauffre (mainly because he has some supplies which are pretty good early on) but do not go to Kvatch. It's kind of like how not getting the Dragonstone for Farengar in Skyrim will delay Dragons spawning all the time, but this time it's Oblivion Gates instead of dragons. 8. Some creature in Oblivion are immune to normal weapons and can't only be hurt by magic, enchanted weapons, silver weapons and Daedric weapons. Well, using enchanted weapons can be costly before your armorer is 50 since you can't repair them yourself and Daedric weapons won't appear until you reach level 20. So unless you're a mage, make sure you always have a silver weapon on hand. A dagger would suffice. (For archers: you need silver arrows, the bow doesn't matter. A silver bow shooting glass arrows won't work, but an iron bow shooting silver arrows will.)

I'm doing okay so far but I feel like I screwed myself a couple Times alr. I had oblivion for my ps3 but stuck to skyrim on my ps4. A while ago I sold both of those to focus on stuff and I just bought a Xbox 360 and the goy edition was the first disc I found
Love the tips! Literally started this game for the first time today, yes I know I’m a bit behind. Having played the other Bethesda games I feel dumb for not starting earlier.
You can use the pirate ship where you do the watery grave DB quest as a player home. In the room where you kill the captain there is a usable bed and storage containers that dont respawn. Its much better than 2000 gold for the shack and you can get it right at the beginning of the game.
I usually grab the staff of Everscamp early in my playthroughs. It drops your speed by 20 points, but the respawning scamps make great punching bags for leveling attack spells. As a small bonus enemies will occasionally attack the scamps instead of you.
After leaving the sewers: 1. Complete the next main quest (deliver the amulet to Jauffre at Weynon Priory) Talk to Prior Maborle on the spot and select the "Assistance" option to get a free horse. 2. Go on horseback to "Vidasel" where NPC Umbra is waiting for you. Leave the horse near the entrance. Come in, attack the NPC and direct it back to the horse. 3. Umbra will follow you until Imperial City. Go inside the city and let the guards do the rest. 4. You will receive Umbra's armor, her sword and shield. You can additionally sell the belongings of fallen guards. There will be a lot of them.
I prefer to join the arena guild and complete it for a good armor set and money advantage, so you can have +3000 septims and can afford most relevant items. I do not recommend picking up dremora maces. They deal low damage, sell for a very lacking price for how heavy they are, and many players get confused between them being daedric weapons. Daedric is much, much stronger than dremora, but come around very late into the game.
I see a lot of confusion in these comments about levelling. The best advice is to just play the damn game. Don’t worry about optimisation, difficulty, just pick whatever you think is cool and play it. We played this game as kids back in 06 and completed it many times, it’s not hard
Literally have no idea why I'm here, I've been playing oblivion since before there was horse … yet I stayed to watch the whole thing XD. Good video my man. Hopefully it'll catch the attention of some of the people that entered the series playing skyrim.
I’ve been an avid player of Oblivion since it came out in 06. Let me tell you I would have loved to have advice like this 😂 Oblivion is my all time favorite game And I love to see that it still has a life
9:25 Probably need to use the persuasion wheel, mostly cause it's really early in the game and most players have yet to start making any serious money. One important thing is that the shack doesn't come with any storage units, you have to either buy them from the three brothers shop or steal then. Not all upgrades can be stolen, the sitting and dining area upgrades must be purchased The kitchen upgrade can be stolen from Stantus Varrid's private chambers or Tertius Favonius' house. His house is located in the north part of Imperial city, between the guard house and Othrelos' house. The storage upgrade can be stolen from Luronk gro-Glurzog's basement or Marinus Catiotus' house. Luronk's house can be found in the temple district, Marinus house can be found in the heart of the elven district. I think the option costs 400 but can be either higher or lower, depending upon disposition and how good your mercantile is vs the brothers mercantile. Sadly you can only buy upgrades from two of the three brothers, both have the same mercantile (60). One really important thing about the shack is that the crate outside of the shack does respawn items, using it will run the risk of losing whatever items you put there (there's quite allot of safe storages that can be used instead,)
one thing you can do to avoid leveling up if you're wanting to go for a no weapon or armor mage build is to pick skills that you won't be likely to use as major ones it will mean that the skills you want will be low but as you train them up the enemies will stay the same it will also mean that your HP MP and STAM will stay low as well
This game was godly to me in 2008 .... in about 2015 I decided to 100% the achievements artifacts houses quests you name it and now on my series x I have acess to the same save! (Cloud) I plan to mess around soon :)
One addendum I would like to add to this video is in regards to a player home, assuming you don’t have the DLC’s (they’re cheap, I honestly suggest you get them) I would recommend saving the money you have and *not* buying the house in the Imperial City. Because in Anvil, the town most south west on the map, has a home you can buy for 5000 gold, and along with it comes one the better side quests… and in an Elder Scrolls game that’s regarded as having the best side quests, that’s a plus plus! TL;DR: Don’t buy the house in the Waterfront, go the Count’s Arms in Anvil and buy the house from Velwyn Benirus! > It’s 5000 gold, and it’s the best house for the money!
It's not a house anymore but a manor. Do be careful though there might be a surprise in that manor. I just bought it too and I was surprised by my unwelcomed guests. Also you'll get White Stallion Lodge by completing the quest by Count Marius in Leyawiin. It's a beautiful lodge and it has chest in it.
My main tip is to every single level use your 5 training sessions with armorer this getting you more endurance per level and this higher health and the ability to repair armour and weapons to lvl 125 later on
if you're playing a build that benefits from being able to repair armor, you're probably already going to be leveling block and possibly heavy armor which give endurance anyway, plus once you have money for repair hammers, it levels pretty fast, i always use training sessions on the slowest skills
Efficient leveling only works BEFORE getting the notification that you leveled up, not when you sleep to level up. You can stack 10+ Efficient levels without ever sleeping if you keep perfect track of them, and only level the tenth major skill after the 30 minor skills have been leveled.
Another tip, after you exit the sewers at the beginning go to the Ayleid ruin straight ahead it's fun plus there's plenty of decent loot including Black Shirt & Black Pants. Also if you want a hood to go with that Black outfit go to Gnoll Mountain camp East of Bruma for Grey Mages outfit & hood.
13:25 was looking for this point i held off on continuing the Kvatch quest and when i got back at around lvl12 i could barely kill a single enemy wanted to reach 50 armorer so i could repair my own enchanted stuff, so didnt get a lot of combat related skills done
@@shaunkean89 if i wanted to die constantly, i would make a mage only class on oblivion and set the difficulty to max, not impossible just hard because your summon and the enemies are 1:1 ratio
Lol you just reminded me that I never did the Dark Brotherhood questline because it triggered at the same time as I slept in the Haunted House. I accidentally killed him while fighting off the ghosts LOL
My usual character choices in Oblivion are: Breton with the Mage birthsign. I usually put my seven skills as hand to hand, blunt weapons, blade weapons, marksmanship, security, alteration, and either speech or mercantile skills.
As someone who played a little bit of oblivion as a child when it was newer, and I’ve never beaten the game or gotten past the first oblivion gate, how does anyone recommend I should get into oblivion? Any tips for good builds? Sometimes I struggle getting into older games but as a kid I LOVED oblivion, I’ve just never gotten around to playing more than a couple hours
Build up your health and your strength and fighting attributes as much as you possibly can, (pick a race that fits with your fighting style) I highly recommend doing a lot of side quests, daedric shrines or dlc’s to get leveled weapons and armor and levels. I usually run to the arena, fighters guild, the shivering isles and thieves guild first then I pick off all the side quests I know will either provide a lot of combat or loot. The gates are hard when you haven’t built your character up and yea they’ll get “harder” as you level but once you get into the groove with whatever type of combat you choose and get all the leveled items you can you’re pretty much solid from there. There’s no shame and it doesn’t hurt to turn down the difficulty too! Also, if you can, run like hell through the gates and get them shut don’t even bother trying to pick off the dremroa and all the other fun guys in there, I started doing that once I made my 6th character because…it gets old theres like 100 gates to close and I got other shit to do 😂 good luck to you! Oh and ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU NEED in and try not to loot too much from the gates everything is super heavy and not worth the weight to value ratio last thing you want is to be stuck standing still in one of those gates
I've been thinking about getting Oblivion at last , I've played Morrowind in the past and in many ways character creation seems similar but thanks for the video nonetheless !
To add to the money making with alchemy, you can make a lot of potions and sell them to various alchemy vendors and then from the same vendors buy their indegriends to make more potions. My top spot is Skingrad, not only are there two Alchemy vendors (one in the Inn in the basement, and one in shop called "All things Alchemical") but there are also large wine fields outside the gates from which you can freely take grapes and make huge amounts of potions from as well. (I believe there is also a small field of tomatoes somewhere next to the city walls) Another personally good tip is also doing the Umbacano's quest for fetching the statues, not only will you get 500 gold for each statue, you will also get 5500 gold for completing the whole set of 10 statues, provided you take the time to find them all. Another good tip is killing vampires. There is a small faction you can join after finishing it's small quest called "Order of The Virtuous Blood", and one of the NPCs will buy any and all Vampire Dusts from you at 250 gold.
In the context of Oblivion assuming we are including shivering isles and knights of the nine, there is an item in the shivering isles which will destroy your stuff which allows you to level up armorer. Also if anyone plans on wearing the knights armor, give the thieves and dark brotherhood the big ol middle finger, now then onto the armor, if you want to use the armor, again, journeyman and light armor as a primary skill because one of the tiers of light armor is no weight for worn armor. Another, if you are transitioning from skyrim to Oblivion, argonian might be the best race because there are a number of swimming quests, though the biggest I will say is avoid vampurism because it sucks and if you get the disease at early levels, reload a save.
Here’s a good comment you want to look at, always start with a nord you don’t need to only use melee, you will start with a lot of health because of endurance, And it will help you with any build also when you level up you will gain more health depending on your endurance, more endurance more health per level so I recommend starting with nord and choosing the warrior or the lady birthsign and use whatever major skill you want, to avoid underleveling try to efficient level.
Ultimate tip for new players. Get two or more of a scroll. Then double tap A or X whichever button that equips it. Then while in your item menu just drop whatever item and it will duplicate said item by the number of the scrolls you have.
The Oblivion leveling system makes enemies tougher. If you do not want to use the difficulty slider, you need to keep up with Health (Endurance) and fighting power (skill points). 1) For beginners there are only two birthsigns to consider The Lady and The Warrior. Both boost Endurance (health points) to help keep you from getting killed. The Lady is the choice for fighters because they are not going to build Willpower through magic use, but are going to build Strength through fighting. Willpower adds to the Fatigue calculation = weapon damage. The Warrior birthsign is for magic races (Bretons and Altmers) and Bow users because they are not going to build Strength through melee fighting, but are gong to build Willpower (or in the Bow user's case not need it. Strength is needed to carry loot. You freeze in place and get beaten to death if you pick up one too many things and are over-burdened. 2) Custom attribute bonus should be the same as birthsign (Endurance and Willpower or Strength). 3) Your specialty should match your major skill primary fighting skill (Stealth /bow, Combat/melee, Magic/Destruction, Conjuration. A specialty major skill builds more than twice as fast as a regular skill. Fighting skill counters leveling. Five points per level keeps you even with new enemies, more gives you dominance. These easy points will also go towards attribute bonuses that will help you. 4) Choose a magic race (Breton, Altmer) if primarily fighting with magic, pick an Orc, Nord, or Redguard for everything else because the high endurance will benefit you more than any bonus from the other races. You can screw around with other races when you get some experience.
difficulty slider is literally just ego.. having an op character with it higher vs having a weaker character with it lower it literally the same if enemies both take the same hits to die. you get exp per cast/hit, not per mob so the exp gains is the same. People should just not stress about it if its their first time and just enjoy the game, move it up if its easy or move it down if its hard, doesnt matter lol
Just started a new save, I've tried a few times to play this game over the years but never got passed the kvatch quest, playing a dark elf character I made in skyrim just 200 years younger
My takes: I think The Mage is best birth sign. Gives a big 50 extra spell points permanently and even warriors and thieves need as many magika points as possible to heal themselves or go invisible. Really crucial at early levels too. The perks to speed or whatever you easily make up in first few levels and a waste of choice imo. Also Breton is strongest character to start with since you get permanent magic resistance or 50% !!!! Best race perk in the game by far. Bretons can do anything. They make great warriors or thieves as well as mages. (I admit I like Khajiit when I play just for fun as in get into mischief and create chaos. They just so look the part. Especially the one with the headband that looks totally goofy to me). Endurance is most important attribute to max since it increases your Health and keeps you alive. Strength (attack and ability to carry more in your inventory), Intelligence (magic points) and Willpower (speed that magic regenerates and resistance to same) are other three to work on early . Agility and Speed afterwards. Luck is way overrated and Personality really isn't much at all. If you want to power level try to get a full 5 points each early level. Enter console mode (~) on laptop and type tdt and you can see how many points you have been accumulating in each of the attributes. (Enter tdt a second time to remove the data from screen then exit console mode). Try not to get too much more than 10 (that equals the 5 max points) or less than that number (again 5 max points) in 3 of those categories per level. Why not more? Want to leave enough increases for next level and one after etc. PS: Remember you get 5 training sessions per level. Use them to get to that number 10 in an important attribute.
If you're playing this for the first time and you're on PC PLEASE download a leveling attributes mod. They are so simple installing them is as easy as dropping a couple files into the Oblivion folder and they will completely fix the leveling problem. I cannot stress how unimmersive the constant threat of un-optimized leveling can be.
About to start my first play and I'll take your advice. I got through the tutorial and when faced with the class, skills, attributes, star signs- I'm solidly confused about how it all works.
@@swilson5320 you can make any build work the leveling in oblivion is like skyrim with extra steps but the vanilla leveling causes enemies to out level you unless you track what you're leveling and level according to a chart.
@@swilson5320in vanilla when you level up the amount the attributes go up per point is dependant on the skills you increased to gain in level. It makes it so if you increase the wrong skills your mage can get 2-3 less points into intelligence per level which by level 35ish will screw you. As a mage even walking to much and leveling your athletics skills could be the "wrong" skill to get optimal attribute increases. A simple level fix mod will make it so that no matter what skills you increase to gain a level you will get the maximum amount of attribute increases per point spent. Other variants of the mod will make the attribute increases dependant on class. It's up to you. I can't think of any names off the top of my head but there are tons, you can even alter an Oblivion .ini file to fix it yourself if you want I believe. I usually suggest people play vanilla first in Bethesda games but in Oblivion the leveling simply straight up broken. A mod like the one I described above will retain the entire vanilla leveling experience minus the skill increase management.
When I first played my first run through I never slept in a bed so I was level 1 for like my first 7 hours of gameplay and didn’t know hit to level up a lot has changed since then
I've been playing this game here and there since it came out, but I've never actually bothered to look further into how to do things properly and progress properly. As a kid I would spend the majority of my time just robbing houses and fencing off the stuff.
If you play Console, do Thieves Guild Right away. If you wait, there’s risk that some quests will break certain missions such as the Infamous Ring Quest.

I dont see the need anymore to level up because he is allready the strongest character in Cyrodill. Dont know why players allways say you have to be lv. 51 to max out your character.
I’m always a little confused on this. So summoning a zombie among other things isn’t necromancy? Is it just strictly reanimation? Game didn’t make much since with what it considered necromancy.
@@ItachiUchiha-69 Lore wise, any summoning or reanimating of the dead in considered necromancy, but necromancy tends to be ineffective, shallow/simple, and generally unviable at higher levels without mods. And the more Light pierces the Darkness the more recompense you should expect from such an aggression yes? This is the paradox that makes Light and Dark eternal. The Darkness cannot exist in the Light without a vessel of the Light. Sort of like a costume but with sinew, and flesh. And plenty of bone. You really have to reinforce the flesh with the bone to build a strong Abomination. All that meat is quite heavy... Anywho, the deal is, the Dark uses the vessels of Light to extinguish the Light. So the more creatures of Light, or the more Light condensed into a single creature, the more powerful a vessel of Darkness they become when they have died. And everything dies, just as surely as the Darkness will always come. @@thereapershow1075 well in the middle, its a 1:1 ratio but if theres like 5 enemies vs you, of course you're going to get wrecked haha, theres actually a mod that makes all enemies weaker but spawns a lot more of them
I do think efficient leveling is sort of required in Oblivion. The scaling of enemies assumes you are min-maxing. I remember my character slowly falling behind bit by bit, and enemies taking forever. I played again with a more efficient character, and it was much easier. To be honest, I feel like the leveling and scaling systems completely ruin this game. The scaling is too harsh and ridiculous in some cases, and you are very much punished for either under-leveling or over-leveling skills. It just feels like a dark cloud is over your head, as trying to optimize your skills and track everything really ruins one's minute-to-minute gameplay experience. It forces you to play the game in a very unnatural way, completely killing immersion. So basically you either enjoy the game and feel immerse, but have to constantly lower difficulty in the slider, or go through the tedium and pain of tracking your skills and stats every level but completely suck all the fun out of the game. This is why Skyrim is better, You can just play the damn game, feel immersed, and play intuitively and naturally, and you will enjoy yourself all the way until the very end. Not so with Oblivion.
it didnt ruin anything, its literally all in your head.. so the game is easier for you beucase of efficient leveling? well that means less hits to kill things, which means those skills will level slow, then you may fall behind, if you raise the difficulty to make up for the fact that you character is stronger, that just proves that it doesnt even matter. after all the game play is the same regardless of the slider as long as its at a spot there its hard but not too hard
Idk man, you can get pretty in-depth with it but for me I just make my Major skills ones I won’t and don’t use. Make my minor skills my actual build. I go out and play the game normally level up my minor skills then when I’m ready to level up I use those majors. I sleep and level up to level 2 then I rinse and repeat I don’t keep track of anything.. I just level up slowly. I always end up with +4 and +5 on my attributes. And by the time I’m level 9-12 I’m OP. It doesn’t have to be complicated..
yesterday I started this game for the first time .. because I don't know so much ... I just got into the wheels of the Sisi caves I killed everything ..then I did a qest to find a gate to some size and I got into the guild guild madnes etc .idk man I didn't really understand much))))
Wait, I haven't played Oblivion yet, but you said that only skill-ups in *major* skills affect your attribute gains ? From all I've read about Oblivion, that isn't the case and skill-ups in *minor* skills also increase your attribute gains. Isn't that how efficient leveling works - by leveling up your *minor* skills instead of your major skills until you have enough to get your +5/+5/+5 attribute boni when once you level up one of your major skills 10 times ?
leveling efficient by doing that is only for the sake of completely maxing out your character, you'll be done most of the content before that. if you're playing for the first time its just a waste of time, imo i have a level 35 character, 100 strength, 100 endurance, 100 speed, almost 100 personality and agility, i dont use magic so intel and willpower i dont really care about, still have a lot more content do to
Ghosts and spirits can be defeated with silver weapons only in some cases because some spirits drain your magic energy quickly they start to appear when you reach level 8 and you will meet them on the roads as well as inside the ruins
I haven't played in years, recently picked back up. I used to know how to place items from my inventory, but I've forgotten Not drop... Place items. Such as to stand up potion bottles om shelves in my house. Can anyone help?
The repair percent is based on your armorer level. The higher it is, the more you repair with each try, allowing repair hammers to last far longer. I’d recommend repairing most of your gear at around 75% durability to keep it useful, but if you want to raise armorer very fast, just repair everything you pick up before selling what you don’t need. Free repair hammers can be found in the crates in the Imperial City Market District where all those containers, bags and boxes are just waiting to be looted(don’t worry, it isn’t considered stealing from them).
How to you tell if a weapons stronger ive got steel mace i stole which has helped me with enemies in heavy armour or metal armour however i also have a steel dagger I bought but I have a sliver mace and dagger. Im confused when comes to figuring out how much damage they. I wanted to know if you knew which box with numbers for weapons tell you how much damage they do please.
Surprised that no one has mentioned that you can get a free horse right away by asking prior Mabel for his horse when you first go see the blades master, first quest. He gives you his horse and its your to keep.
A tip I can give as someone who doesn't have much experience with Oblivion but did play enough to learn to avoid the duplication glitch. It will ruin the game for you. You'll have the best of everything right out the gate and all the money in the world. It will really ruin the experience. What would normally be a grind to get enough money to buy these things turns regular missions into pointless quests just to move the story forward with little to no reward for doing so. It also makes combat obsolete since you'll have unlimited potions. Everything will just become boring really fast and if you're like me you will likely put the game down and walk away from it. After a while I came back to it and played it as intended and it was a great experience. Having to travel and find the best ways to make money to buy the things I need was rewarding and outside of missions themselves it really gave me goals to reach. It also taught me things about the game. Like how to handle enemies. You learn quickly that sometimes it's ok to run away from a battle even if you desperately need to bit of coins from it. If you loved Skyrim you will likely enjoy this game. It's not as unforgivable as Morrowwind but doesn't hold your hand like Skyrim.
idk i thought i chose a pretty decent set of major skills and used the right weapons and armor etc and i guess i explored too much before going to kvatch and its so damn hard i had to put the difficulty slider all the way down and it still was ridiculous. i know im not jsut bad. i feel like its kinda cheap to have to put it on baby mode. idk im stuck

Also NEVER SELL REPAIR HAMMERS in Oblivion. Use them to repair all your loot. Get your skill up to the point where you can repair magic items. You'll thank me
i am forever in your debt.
Plus you can find them easily in barrels/crates around each city, outdoors as well as in. Lockpicks, too!
As a Morrowind player Agreed espcially if a bandit camp has a barrell full
Agreed
Top tip is to not bring the amulet of kings to the blade master at the beginning and always avoid the town destroyed by the great gate kvatch. This means no oblivion gates will open and you can play all the side quests to gains some needed items before taking on the main quest with a overpowered character.
Levelling =/= power. Honestly the game is way easier at level 1 with iron weapons and armor than level 50 with daedric enchanted gear and uniques. The level scaling is so intense that if you don't seriously min/max and abuse every single possible advantage you can get + proper levelling, you'll never get stronger past level 1.
That is usually as the Breton Belmont plays it
Just started playing oblivion and I already did the gate thing in kvatch, damn it
Ikr i did mages guild only level 30 and dude I don’t want to have to put more into strength :/ im already like a god and I don’t want to be like 120 with some random sword
Omg this helped me way too much
6:35 I would advise against joining the Dark Brotherhood early.
This way as a Noob The Blessing are quickly gathered and Once you are Done you can be Evil as Needed.
thanks mate!
@@acyour you can roleplay a bad guy going good. You don't have to just be a good guy turned evil.
You can remove these effects by praying in a city chapel.
@@ReignOfCurtis Great point, I forgot about that. Gotta keep an eye on infamy though, can't let it get too high.

@@ilikelobsters.2376 Morrowind was my first exposure to Elder Scrolls, and I liked playing it. Unfortunately, I didn't get it finished before my computer died, and I didn't want to start all over from scratch.
TL:DR mod it if you can xD
Major skills make you level up which is why you typically want to wait until you've gotten enough minor skills up before you fill the exp. bar

The returns on this diminish though, as level ups make enemies tougher, outweighing the stat gains
Should have probably watched the Video. I started a few weeks ago, and now have my character (level 2) on the shivering isles while having absolutely done almost nothing in the actual game xD I mean I could leave the Isles and continue later but... I don´t really wanna kill the momentum I build haha

Really glad you found it useful. Thanks!
If you go with the orc race grab warrior star sign and tag strength and endurance your character will be a beast right off the bat
Some tips I have for beginners:
(Stay away from enchanted armour/weapons until you reach 50 armorer, because you can't repair it yourself)
Once those 3 skills have reached a combined 10 levels, find a corner and jump in it until a message pops up saying you've levelled up.
(you can loot all the alchemy supplies in a mage guild and sell it back to them)
The fighters guild gives you some low level quests alongside some decent low level armour, as well as some fairly good weapons like a silver short-sword and a fine steel longsword. (which you can simply grab in the guild master's room in Chorrol)
I'm still in the sewer dude....

Umbra is the sword you want. Research how and where to find it
Hopped back in at the start of 2020 honestly one of my favourite games tbh
You can use the pirate ship where you do the watery grave DB quest as a player home. In the room where you kill the captain there is a usable bed and storage containers that dont respawn. Its much better than 2000 gold for the shack and you can get it right at the beginning of the game.
thank you based yu
Nice!!
Nice pfp
I usually grab the staff of Everscamp early in my playthroughs. It drops your speed by 20 points, but the respawning scamps make great punching bags for leveling attack spells. As a small bonus enemies will occasionally attack the scamps instead of you.
After leaving the sewers:
Daedric is much, much stronger than dremora, but come around very late into the game.
glad someone is till making contents about oblivion, even if two years since this video are passed. Good Job
I see a lot of confusion in these comments about levelling. The best advice is to just play the damn game. Don’t worry about optimisation, difficulty, just pick whatever you think is cool and play it.

9:25 Probably need to use the persuasion wheel, mostly cause it's really early in the game and most players have yet to start making any serious money. One important thing is that the shack doesn't come with any storage units, you have to either buy them from the three brothers shop or steal then. Not all upgrades can be stolen, the sitting and dining area upgrades must be purchased
The kitchen upgrade can be stolen from Stantus Varrid's private chambers or Tertius Favonius' house.
You can also get a free room in Aleswell by completing a quest
It's not a house anymore but a manor. Do be careful though there might be a surprise in that manor. I just bought it too and I was surprised by my unwelcomed guests.
Also you'll get White Stallion Lodge by completing the quest by Count Marius in Leyawiin. It's a beautiful lodge and it has chest in it.
I end up buying all of them anyway..
Replaying tes, it’s been awhile. I’m enjoying morrowind rn but my last save was like an hour ago and the game crashed so here I am..
I’m about to start my first playthrough :)) super stoked
Enjoy :-)
Efficient leveling only works BEFORE getting the notification that you leveled up, not when you sleep to level up. You can stack 10+ Efficient levels without ever sleeping if you keep perfect track of them, and only level the tenth major skill after the 30 minor skills have been leveled.
very helpful video, just bought this game and i'll definitely use these tips!
This game is very long and very fun!
I’ve had a playthrough of Oblivion since it’s release. This is the video for me!

Git gud
Thanks for these top tips Vress, great for new players like myself for sure.
I've been thinking about getting Oblivion at last , I've played Morrowind in the past and in many ways character creation seems similar but thanks for the video nonetheless !
I'm new to oblivion and I thought that stealing results in guards approaching you and doing that ''stop you violated the law'' thing.
(I believe there is also a small field of tomatoes somewhere next to the city walls)
Another personally good tip is also doing the Umbacano's quest for fetching the statues, not only will you get 500 gold for each statue, you will also get 5500 gold for completing the whole set of 10 statues, provided you take the time to find them all.
Another good tip is killing vampires. There is a small faction you can join after finishing it's small quest called "Order of The Virtuous Blood", and one of the NPCs will buy any and all Vampire Dusts from you at 250 gold.
or just pay a visit to dorian, problem solved
@@anomaly3215 given the little "visit" landed me 10 000 days in the jail I don't think that's the way to make money :PPP
12:15 the quicksave before picking up the stone xD ahh yeah the best enchant every time. think everyone does that at this point.
This game never gets old
I want to ask a question
Is it safe to sleep in captain cabin in waterfront?
I kill all the Pirates tho
yeah
Love your Oblivion videos they're extremely helpful
It’s my first time playing oblivion so excited thank you 🙏
The Oblivion leveling system makes enemies tougher.
Coming from a noob who's only just played Skyrim. The whole early game system makes my head spin. I appreciate the strategy in picking and leveling.
difficulty slider is literally just ego..
having an op character with it higher vs having a weaker character with it lower it literally the same if enemies both take the same hits to die.
you get exp per cast/hit, not per mob so the exp gains is the same. People should just not stress about it if its their first time and just enjoy the game,
move it up if its easy or move it down if its hard, doesnt matter lol
@@TheFloodFourm I'm looking for the link now. I would like to be a Breton-mage thief. Do I need to care a lot about my attributes if I use the mod?

When I first played my first run through I never slept in a bed so I was level 1 for like my first 7 hours of gameplay and didn’t know hit to level up a lot has changed since then
THIS 3:02 IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MECHANIC IN THE GAME!!! Take heed, new players!!
Looking back I think I could have explained it better, but yes!
Great Video!! Thanks for your advice.
One of the first games I got for Xbox 360. With the recent fps boost and 4k hdr support this video is super relevant for me. Thanks bro!
i just got the game yesterday i'm starting it today it's a little late but thanks for making these video
Great video, learned so much!
I'm playing Oblivion second time since 2008. and made a pure mage character. I've max out all my mayor skills and ended up with level 45. I dont see the need anymore to level up because he is allready the strongest character in Cyrodill. Dont know why players allways say you have to be lv. 51 to max out your character.
its fun playthrough for veterans to min max your character leveling.
I can’t wait to start collecting bones again and making a bone house.
great vid, very helpful
5:08 how did i not think of that!
I always used the arena to just stack up my light armor heavy armor and block
If you could only be a Necromancer...
MysteriousBear's Epic Necromancy Mod
I’m always a little confused on this. So summoning a zombie among other things isn’t necromancy? Is it just strictly reanimation? Game didn’t make much since with what it considered necromancy.
@@ItachiUchiha-69 Lore wise, any summoning or reanimating of the dead in considered necromancy, but necromancy tends to be ineffective, shallow/simple, and generally unviable at higher levels without mods. TES necromancy is just very bare bones for the player. Which is a shame when necromancers raising armies of the dead is a very common theme in TES
@@ItachiUchiha-69 Necromancy is looking to the darkness for answers, wielding that dark knowledge as a spear, and weaving that dark purpose into the vessels of the Light. Not animating bones. That is no more Necromancy than animating a broom closet. However, do not misunderstand, Mickey is quite close to the Darkness himself...
To the point, the Darkness is pierced by the Light, no?
Necromancy is simply reaching into the Darkness for more power than the Light is willing to give you, both for your sake, to keep you safe from Dark Purpose, and also to preserve itself. Because no vessel of Light can ever become so strong that it can threaten to extinguish all Light. No species of Light's Purpose can ever be allowed to collectively overwhelm Creation.
Necromancy is seeking freedom from that boundary. For a Necromancer to be created one at the pinnacle of their power and knowledge must turn to the Darkness for what the Light wisely refuses to provide its delicate creations.

Tip #27: PLAY AS BRETON!
Tip #28: GET WRECKTED WITH STYLE and MIGHT

Another one bite the dust with Oblivion! jajajajajaja.
it didnt ruin anything, its literally all in your head.. so the game is easier for you beucase of efficient leveling? well that means less hits to kill things, which means those skills will level slow, then you may fall behind,
if you raise the difficulty to make up for the fact that you character is stronger, that just proves that it doesnt even matter. after all the game play is the same regardless of the slider as long as its at a spot there its hard but not too hard
I always find the dark elf/warrior/archer to be a great balance
Once I played it for months without starting a main quest. I was so strong, easily beat the crap out of all and everything.
yesterday I started this game for the first time .. because I don't know so much ... I just got into the wheels of the Sisi caves I killed everything ..then I did a qest to find a gate to some size and I got into the guild guild madnes etc .idk man I didn't really understand much))))
I am sure that Skingrad vineyards should have been mentioned as nearly 100 grapes can be picked there
Very good point. I actually mention that location in my recent Alchemy video!
My husband is having me pick this game up. I hope I do not get lost all the time
Wait, I haven't played Oblivion yet, but you said that only skill-ups in *major* skills affect your attribute gains ? From all I've read about Oblivion, that isn't the case and skill-ups in *minor* skills also increase your attribute gains. Isn't that how efficient leveling works - by leveling up your *minor* skills instead of your major skills until you have enough to get your +5/+5/+5 attribute boni when once you level up one of your major skills 10 times ?
leveling efficient by doing that is only for the sake of completely maxing out your character, you'll be done most of the content before that.
if you're playing for the first time its just a waste of time, imo
i have a level 35 character, 100 strength, 100 endurance, 100 speed, almost 100 personality and agility, i dont use magic so intel and willpower i dont really care about,
still have a lot more content do to
Ghosts and spirits can be defeated with silver weapons only in some cases because some spirits drain your magic energy quickly they start to appear when you reach level 8 and you will meet them on the roads as well as inside the ruins
This video is the first time i ever heard of player homes in oblivion
Certainly not an essential feature but they add a bit of flavour and some very useful storage!
I haven't played in years, recently picked back up. I used to know how to place items from my inventory, but I've forgotten
Not drop... Place items. Such as to stand up potion bottles om shelves in my house. Can anyone help?
to the 20th tip u said reparing is important at how much % should i repair tho?
''Alchemy is actually a really good way to make gold in Oblivion, actually arguably the best way''
**Laughs in Dorian**
Smiles while using scroll duplicate glitch. .
Thank you very helpful.
It's not as unforgivable as Morrowwind but doesn't hold your hand like Skyrim.
i actually think the opposite, dupe glitch make the game way more fun for me, since i discover it (cannot live without it)
idk i thought i chose a pretty decent set of major skills and used the right weapons and armor etc and i guess i explored too much before going to kvatch and its so damn hard i had to put the difficulty slider all the way down and it still was ridiculous. i know im not jsut bad. i feel like its kinda cheap to have to put it on baby mode. idk im stuck
Not your fault, the game is just very unintuitive in terms of the relationship between levelling and difficulty
aye thanks dude
