    Love these drills. 37yrs old and played competitive baseball for a long time. While playing in a men's league I tried to change my throwing motion and it screwed everything up. Guess I have some form of the dreaded yips. Now I have 2 young boys in little league and I am trying to work my way back to normal. Embarrassing sometimes just throwing the ball with them. Definitely going to try these drills.

      I'm having similar issues with my throwing. Out of nowhere, the last two years, my throwing accuracy has disappeared. My throws go all over the place. From 5 feet over the head of my throwing partner to bouncing the ball 5 feet in front of him. It's as if I have no control over my arm. Very frustrating, since I was always an accurate thrower.
      Did you ever correct your throwing issues? If so, what did you do. Did these throwing drills help?

    In our winter workouts we have been doing the one knee drill after our cage long toss. My original intent was for it to really get the fingers on top of the ball and snap through it. So many girls push the softball and don’t get back spin. The result has been a tremendous gain in accuracy.

    Good drills except the last one. I believe in letting a pitcher have their natural release, unless you're trying to throw a specific movement pitch. The last drill will increase your spin for a 4seam; thus more speed, however it will also give you a flat and straight fastball. Again, just my opinion but just be aware you could change a pitcher with natural movement to straight-straight fastball... which is something they may not want.

    I tried this last year, and it completely f-ed my shoulder up. I could barely finish the season and had to get treatment. Just be careful, and maybe limit this practice to a few throws if you do it (I don't think it's helpful, to be honest).

    ONE MAJOR FLAW: DO NOT straighten/extend your arm BEFORE your throw the ball (i.e., during the back-motion after the hands separate). This is a biomechanical truth. This is what is causing some followers to hurt themselves.
    The ONLY time the throwing arm should reach a position of complete/full extension is at the point-of-release. Straightening the arm BEFORE you throw will either 1) cause your whole arm motion to be "locked" in this position and cause all the potential elasticity and kinetic power to remain "locked" as well, or 2) cause the throwing arm to bend pre-maturely, or 3) force the throwing arm to be out of timing and out of position with relation to the rest of the body.
    Plus, look at every baseball card/photo/video of a MLB player throwing....you will never see a straightened throwing arm during the back-motion.

    How many reps????Saaaay for a 9-10 year old.

    • @dpbaseball
      @dpbaseball  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’d start out with 20-30 reps. Work there way up depending on how they perform. Our goal is quality over quantity... especially at the lower levels! We hate seeing kids do tons of “bad reps”. We’d rather less “good” reps! 😁

    • @One-lv4en
      @One-lv4en 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you have natural sinking movement, usually caused by pronating plus arm slot angle. This isn't a bad thing.

      Which ones are BS? Remember what works for you may not work for others. We teach mechanics that we have learned throughout our playing years and are sharing them for others. Safe, easy and hopefully developing. Thanks for watching
