Loved Seattle and the market. But there were a lot of street people camped everywhere. Never quite felt safe there. But loved it. Safe travels.
We have seen many homeless people on the streets so far. More than we expected, even though we'd heard about it beforehand. We never felt unsafe though, fortunately :)

Drive along West Coast of US down to Mexico is a beautiful drive - have done it many times - one of my favourite in the world. I have also walked across the border into Mexico at Tijuana....and survived, haha!
That's a long way 2 drive, I hope your vehicle can take it and it doesn't break down.

Believe me, you got fewer questions than what I got when I entered USA from Canada in my car. And, I may have to make your heads up: low 48 are not as safe as in AL or Canada. Watch out your items and make sure not to stop where you feel not safe.
We are careful everywhere we go on this trip :) we did gets lots of questions though, just didn't show them all, haha (we did not film anything inside).
Most of the United States is very safe. Don't go to inner cities at night.
Nancy Pelosi's husband was recently attacked by a crazy person. The attacker was an illegal Canadian hiding out in California.

Welcome to the US! I hope you drive through California. If you have time take the State Route 1, at least a part of it. If you wanna explore nearby states, before you enter Mexico, I'd recommend driving from SoCal to Utah and down to Arizona. I'm so glad you've made it this far already!

How to do the Darrien Gap? You can't go from Panama to Colombia via land.
We will have to ship across the Darien Gap. You are right, there is no road between Panama and Colombia, and even if you had a 4x4 it would not be safe because the jungle is so dense, cartel activities, etc. So we will have to put Vinny on a 2 day boat trip and cross into South America by boat ourselves. We're hoping we can hop on a sailboat from Panama to Colombia and enjoy the beautiful islands in between while we're at it :)
@@NaickKim I know there was a way (before pandemic) to do and end up in Turbo (Colombia). without the 5 day trip to Cartagena. If I find my notes, I'll post here.
Hi my fellow Belgian citizens! My son and I just arrived back in Vancouver, Canada (where we live) after backpacking the world for 1 year. We traveled the opposite direction :). You'll love Central and South America!!! If you can, ship your van from Panama to Columbia and while that happens you can sail 5 nights on a catamaran (Blue Sailing company) from Panama to Colombia via the San Blas Islands. It's paradise there.
Loving every step of your journey! Sorry to see you missed us here in the beautiful capital city of BC (Victoria) but maybe you will turn around on the southern tip of South America and drive all the way back!

Come to the South East United states where gasoline is half price. Go to farmers markets for really cheap food.
It's stressful as an American to return to the US. The border crossing agents are one big pain, but they do an important job, so in fact I am very thankful for them.
Hmm yeah, but they could be a bit friendlier sometimes. The guys in Alaska were super friendly though.

There is so much to see, don't miss sequoia national park and the giant redwoods, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Arches, Grand Tetons, Grand Canyon, painted desert, petrified forrest, and so much more. And ten of our states are tropical, south Florida, the Everglades and Key west is fantastic. Coral reefs. So much to see. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

United States is the best so much more to see, so beautifully diverse landscapes. The best National parks, fantastic cities and great food. We even have 10 tropical states.

It was just the bulb :) they replaced it and then we were good to go!
@@NaickKim $50 seems a bit too much. I just replaced a headlight bulb on our Sprinter. The bulb cost$6.50. I bought 2 for a spare. Every time I need a bulb, I buy 2 so we always have a spare.

My parents once were crossing into the US from Canada and almost were refused entry because they had apples. The apples they had were from Washington state that were imported into Canada. Didn't make any sense, but that doesn't matter, border laws are their laws.

Dunno why they would let you in Alaska and not into Washington state but glad though got in.
The Alaska border is quite lax and easy to cross. They hardly ask any questions or check anything in-depth, especially the one we crossed at. The land borders to the lower 48 however are notoriously strict and it really depends on the border officer.
@@NaickKim just fyi, it’s not unusual to get searched for fresh fruits and vegetables. It is illegal to bring in these items from foreign countries, even your lunch on a plane. It’s to protect the agriculture industry. So you were not being targeted for that at least. (just fyi, California may have inspection areas when entering the state. Normally it’s just for trucks and it’s not all fruits and vegetables, mainly citrus fruit.)
take advantage of BLM land when staying on the west coast! free gov land you're allowed to stay in one place for 14 days at a time i believe

I live in Seattle. Love it, but homelessness is unfortunately a big problem. As I think it is in most US cities. After living for ten years in Taiwan, a very safe country, I definitely notice a difference here, and a hyper awareness of my surroundings.
I never saw homeless people in my state ever.
Yeah it seems to be an issue in a lot of big cities here unfortunately.

We were not chasing drama. Alaska is sometimes said to have more flexible borders than lower 48 because no tourist would ever stay there once winter hits. So don't really agree with your comment but you are entitled to your opinion of course...
You'll have been there long enough to have figured it out by now, some things are definitely cheaper in the states, but you’ve gone from a Canadian dollar to a U.S. dollar. Today,
$1.00 US is $1.37 Canadian, so add 37% to the US price until you’ve become used to it
1 Euro is worth .98c US
1 Euro is worth 1.34 Canadian
Everything in Canada is more expensive

Also, non-citizens have no right to enter any country. I as a Canadian, Croatian and Peruvian can enter Canada, Croatia and Peru all I want. Every other country....it's a privilege. I am a citizen of three countries, non-citizen of 197-ish other countries.

Niet echt... :D we hadden de van kunnen shippen van Canada naar Mexico als het ECHT moest maar dat zou duizenden euro's (en waarschijnlijk vrij veel tijd) gekost hebben, bovenop de 2 shippings die er nog aan komen (Panama naar Colombia en dan volgend jaar Argentinië naar België). Dus ik weet niet of we dat uiteindelijk gedaan zouden hebben... Gelukkig mochten we binnen!!

The borders to Alaska are notoriously not strict. The border crossing process is super easy at the Alaska border. Everyone we met has said the same thing.
