I’m at 15:29 in the video and I’m wondering why you couldn’t get away with perhaps a 1” diameter hole for the motor shaft instead of a 4-1/2” hole? Glad you like the series. There is a 4.5” ring on the face of the NEMA 56C motor and sticks out and that hole allows for the motor to sit flush against the motor plate. Hope that makes sense. 😁👊🏻

I just bought your plans, thanks. There is however one thing that looks odd. The milled out channel in the platen face, your plan shows 19mm from the center of the hole to the center of the channel ...that looks way too little. 19mm is only .7480 of an inch. Is that correct ?

Nice video! Hey instead of the bushings would it be better to use 3/4” thrust bearings. I think it would definitely prevent wearing and also keep it turning smooth. I don’t know just a thought. Can’t wait to start mine. Gonna purchase your plans as soon as I can financially.
They make a seven inch wheel with a high durometer rubber clad to it, saves a lot of belt life when running the motor backwards and edging with that big soft wheel. ..great for putting the perfect tip on tungsten too..
I’ll shoot ya an email on how easy it is with some pics and video. Essentially it’s a tooling arm with a tapped hole to hold the bolt that holds the contact wheel. And a spacer to give the proper X axis alignment. Or maybe I’ll make a YT vid on it.
I built one about two years ago , I actually just got it working with a vdf and 3phase motor video coming soon I really like your design with the ability to turn vertical , mine doesn't have that option. I wish I would of saw your design when I started my build.

I'm planning to build my first belt grinder and was wondering if it makes a difference weather or not the belt and spindle are on the left side of the machine vs the right? I already have a motor and and it spins the opposite direction of yours so was just planning to flip everything but wasn't sure if I was missing something. Thanks
No not a dumb question at all. Lots of people flip the revolution around to the other side and basically make a mirrored version of it. The parts allow for it as well. Also if it’s a three phase motor you may want to try a VFD that has a forward and reverse switch because many of those motors will spend both ways.

Absolutely great videos and attention to detail!! I have a free industrial-size rheostat and a free 3HP DC treadmill motor. Spent $5 on a full bridge rectifier and the motor spins great, in either direction. 1 question. The motor has no side bolts, only a base I would need to weld onto a plate and then weld to your motor mount. Will that work? TIA Rog
Yeah there have been some bottom mount builds done of the Revolution. It can work. My suggestion is to not use a DC motor though. You should get a TEFC motor you will be much happier.
Well because of u I am re building my grinder.. cause locally I found 2x2x3/16th and the slop has been driving me crazy. The 2x2x1/4 make it perfect.👍👍👍

Brian , I purchased my VFD from Bangood..Sorry but this particular VFD is well used in the UK..its Very god Quality for little money...£56 .16 British pounds.. 2.2kw Minileaf AT1 2200 x 2.2kw.. 1phase in 3 phase out.. brilliant unit..easy to wire.. But if you choose American Fair play to you... just for those guys who are on a budget..
That is a great design. You really went all out and I appreciate you sharing. Truthfully, how often do you think you would need to change positions? It does seem to be a cool feature but since I built mine, I just use the rubber wheel.
Well, I just profiled a knife for the first time (the KnifeTalk Podcast video) and it really helped to have the horizontal position. I think once you have it (and you have a work rest that works in that position) it helps in a lot of ways. And you find ways to make your work easier.

Hi, Brian. Awesome job! I checked local steel suppliers, and max(by thickness) that I can get is 40x40x6 mm and 50x50x6 mm steel tubes. Are these tubes enough to build grinder by your desing? Because I'm living in a metric part of the world where its hart/impossible to find parts with exact same sizes as in imperial units. Also, are there any other parts, which sizes are crucial for the success of the build adopted to metric units parts? Thanks in advance!
Good stuff, it's a great design IMO and most people who want to sell plans won't go to the trouble you have with this break down because many people could use this in place of plans. Yeah, I thought about that. But I figured if someone really wanted to build this without my plans, they could, but they would need to figure out all the hinging and such on their own. Great video! I will be ordering your plans soon. I already have most of what I need to make the build. Although I do plan to make a few adaptions. I have a 3.25 hp motor with a shaft out each end. I plan to incorporate a 10 inch disc sander with work table on the other side. I can then keep an assortment of 3 different grits ready for use all at once (one belt, and one disc on each side of the disc grinder). The tilt feature will make my ideas even better than I thought it would be.
This setup has a 3 phase motor and most workshops don’t have 3 phase. So a VFD would be required. Now if you have a single phase motor you could go without one. 👊🏻
I haven't seen all your videos (I will, eventually) so maybe you've made some jigs for this beauty I don't know about. You probably have seen Jeremy Schmidt's take on a grinder; it's pretty good. I have seen Jeremy's vids. I really enjoy them and his style. And yes, I plan on making his radius jig at some point. A new workrest with a groove in it also for my small wheel attachment. COMING SOON TO TH-camS! :)

For the 1.5” tubes to slide into the 2”, .25” wall tubes, is it as simple as removing the seam weld? Is there any other clearance work needed?
Remove the weld seam and soak in vinegar to remove mill scale. They telescope nicely.

It’s a 2hp motor - 3600 RPM at the shaft, not sure on the match of the actual RPM with a 7” drive wheel. Somewhere near 8000 I suspect. 👊🏻
