Bolt action initially looks pretty expensive admittedly but I did just see I could get a 1000pt British paratroop force for about the same price as a redemptor dreadnought 😅😆
Not mentioned you don't have to buy Warlord minis, there are tons of other manufacturers and no reason not to use them. Warlord doesn't care
Yea for sure my dude. A starter army boxed set is really all you'll need for a while as you learn to play (with how much you can customize with your army options and whatnot). And as Fifth mentions you can grab minis from plenty of places. You won't have to refinance your house in order to afford exclusive minis for some of the other games we all know...
It's not expensive at all when comparing to GW prices. You can get a 1500 point army for just over 150 GBP.
40 Euro for 30 minitures that you can put in so many differnt poses and have differnt weapons is pretty cheap compared to the Games work shop insainty of 20000 Euro for one Miniture that apparently has special powers. You can get a half track or tank for 25 euro too new in the shop.
You can scratch build allot of the terrain in Bolt action because its all stuff from History.
Check out other companys other than warlord, plastic soldier company and sites like them (plastic soldier only seems to have russ 28mm atm) Its sooo much cheaper.

Great game!! I have moved from 40k over to BA in the last few months and it is much more playable and easy to pick up. Plus, it’s a fraction of the cost of GW. Hope to see many more of these batreps!

Brilliant, perfect format, enjoyed the whole thing through when I really should be in bed. Only one criticism, you should of got the tank being hammers by three fausts and a Panzer IV on camera. It sounded epic.

Mordian Glory, Watching your Battlereports did not only bring me so much Joy in a Difficult Time, I also helped me choose a Faction (zhe Ghermanzzzzzz) and I played 2 Games, and Won One...vs Americans, and defended a DRAW against a RUSSIAN HORDE.

Just getting into Bolt Action myself and yes much cheaper to field an army than 40k and much quicker to pick up and play with inexperienced wargamers.

Interesting tactical comments at the end, snipers are the bane of my existence but if you roll like James did with his spiper anythings going to rubbish! I think it's very dependent on the meta if they do put work in. The cool howitzer tank just wiffed too. Fire power off that thing seems a bit laskluster. I like SPGs but I think they're better under armoured so you can get them for a discount, the shots AP doesn't degrade and you can zero in to avoid ever having to need a double 6, also I don't leave home without a mortar and arty piece so I'm not relying on that one HE shot.
A medium mortar and light howitzer lobbing shells at James base might have made all the difference.
The terrain here is incredible! It added a lot to the enjoyment of watching the match up. 👍👍

Very Nice terrain:) Hey the Italians were still standing in the North lots of them Stayed Loyal to The Leader. They stoof till 45. My dad had 9 Friends who were loyal and came to USA after the war. 4 of them had their families Murdered by Crime Mob Filth and Communist and they hated the 43 cowards and scum as they called them. They never said a bad word about the Leader. They were very nice 8 men one lady.

Natural environment for my SD Kfz 166/ Brummbar. Yes those film clips of the Brummbars driving past the Arena in Rome belong to the Sturm Panzer Abtielung 216 that transfered from the Eastern front to the Italian to prevent the break out from the Anzio landing in 1944. Still working on finishing up my Sturm Pioniere's. And they (Germans) should be done then on to finishing up my Soviets.
Oh and vehicles that have howitzers for armament can also do indirect fire as long as it is outside it's minimal range like light is 24" on out Medium is 30" on out and heavy is 36 inches. So if the target is closer than the minimum then it automatically misses. I do this all the time with my JSU-152 and all my German vehicles with howitzers as a sort of lucky covering fire hit on my advancing infantry groups. As it's just like a mortar and so scores on a 6.
Oh and you can fire within an inch with weapons that can not harm a vehicle and since the Panzer tank is proof against infantry weapons you can shoot MG's SMG's, pistols, rifles and assault rifles and it is legal since the tank ignores it. Now if it was a soft skin like a truck or jeep then yes you wouldn't be able to shoot, but anything with a DV of 7 or greater is a go with infantry weapons that isn't design to take on vehicles. So shooting a Panzerfaust is a no go

Nice report although, being pedantic, the Centaur tank can't make a turn if it's doing a run move (tracked vehicles get one pivot, of up to 90 degrees on an advance but none on a run order).

Think I've said this, but I'm think of turning to this over 40k. I'd love a modern version of this game. Ultracombat modern looks like a good bet.
16:25 James makes a mistake here. Snipers ignore the penalties from cover but still are affected by long range -1 penalty.
That is not true. Sniper rule ignores all to hit modifiers except pins and missing assistant/spotter penalty.

but wasn’t there ”pivoting” rules in BA 2e? 🤔 …or am I mixing it with k47…?
…just checked from my PDF version, the tracked vehicles can make a single 90˚ pivot from its center point before or after its actual movement…
…huh… that actually makes moving vehicles even more tactical thinking requiring unit, since facing of vehicles do matter… (but then again, you had schürzen armored skirts on your panzer, what negate the +1 PEN bonus what anti-tank rifles and shaped charges get from hitting sides…)

Great stuff... One question bc it wasn't shown on screen... When you move the AFV are you doing so with the *VERY* limiting one 90^ turn allowed (if you want to shoot)? With the emphasis on front/flank armor (very 2d 40k BTW) this is key. I didn't notice the turrets being moved so was't sure...

By looking at your friend's list is it possible he's using commandos instead of Gurkhas so that this can be a fun friendly game? 😃
What's better, Bolt Action or Flames of War? From the sounds of it, I imagine this game is a lot easier to pick up and of course the scale is different. Is there anything else though?
I play BA with 15mm figures. The ranges work better. It’s much easier to get into, I have several different factions as they cost about 30% of the minimum you’d need for a FoW force.

No need to apologise 40K terrain is trash and an absolute embarrassment to the hobby. GW have done a number on the concept of a battlefield in tabletop gaming and the cack that passes for terrain in 40K is little short of a crime
