A time when people helped out one another. There was love of God and country and those who sacrificed their lives for that. Sadly, those times are long gone. Man only cares about himself. People of that time were the finest example of a great human being. Never again will people be like that, NEVER! Godbless those who lived and those who died for them.
Yes, the world today IS as you’ve described, however generations are circular and what was before, will come back around again, but let’s pray that it’s not because of a war.
I love this song. Makes me cry. I can only imagine how WARM it made the Brit’s feel during the war. I’m a baby boomer….. so sad you lost so much during the war. I wish us Americans had a song similar to pull us together while fighting for democracy right now.
One of the greatest songs ever written. 2 Americans wrote this simple beautiful song and Vera Lynn was outstanding. This song is one of the best songs ever.
Rest in peace Vera lynn, my grandpa always sing this song, then he made my father listen to this, and now my father made me listen to this, and i think i will play this song to my child
She may be gone . But her voice will live on . In life for years to come. This American song sums our war effort up. And other war times ahead . Fabulous . Heaven must be a fabulous place with . Vera . Doris . Gracie . And the rest up above
Rest in Everlasting peace Dame Vera Lynn, you gave hope to Britain Civilians, the armed forces and our allies throughout the war, I pray one day there will be Peace Everlasting. God bless amazing lady you have now gone to sing 🎶 with the Angels. .
i played this two months ago to my mum who was on her final pathway she loved this song , when i played it she couldnt speak anymore but she held my hand and kissed it 3 times , my mum was 94 miss her terribly R.I.P mother one day we will be together again
First time I heard this song was while watching the mini series Winds Of War. If you get the chance, watch it. It’s amazing. This song had me close to tears. And I wasn’t alive in WW2
I was born in 1942. I don't know if anyone born in the 60s can understand the emotion this elicits having many of those who were involved in that war. There aren't many, if any left now. But it seems many have forgotten the losses everyone suffered. We keep going into conflicts blindly.
Mom and i used to sing this and others, in her decline, long term memory is the last to go. PS there are no bluebirds in the UK, the song was written by a Yankee. No disrespect to the USAers, America is a broad continent.
My dear dad was a an Arnhem survivor, (Operation Market Garden 1944), he sadly passed in 1996 at 81 yrs young, R.I.P John Collier (Dad) we now have a book written on your story and its available on Amazon. Quite right, Al! As a kid, I assumed she was singing about bluetits - we DO have those birds in the UK!
