Thanks for mentioning anemia and specifically iron deficiency. I have low ferritin (Iron deficiency) and am not anemic ( I have slipped into being anemic over the years, though). This information is SO important to get out there. I don't generally have a racing heart, but I do get palpitations on occasion. So many doctors only look at hemoglobin on a CBC, but don't test ferritin because they either don't know to or say ferritin is not important as long as your hemoglobin is ok. I finally got my ferritin tested at age 44, and I had to change doctors to do it!
This is something which makes people panik. Most of the people think that high heart beat damages heart. There is no evidence for this. I have seen some people saying that people with heart rate 60-70 have less chance of heart disease. This kind of information make people panic. My grandmother has blood. pressure 190-120. People used to get scared after seeing the reading. Some people even thought how her arteries are withstanding such high pressure. She lived 88 years. She could have lived longer if she avoided those beta blockers. We cannot make any conjectures. Every person is different.
I love your videos. You are very good at taking a technical subject matter and putting it in layman's terms so regular, non-medical people can understand it. Thank you so much and please don't quit making videos. I know you are concerned about your channel, but a lot of us...all of us...would be unhappy if you quit. We really need this information. Doctors really don't have the time to educate their patients at the appointment, The information you give is so incredibly helpful. I feel guilty for getting it for free.
Honestly, don't try and jog, walk first for a 1 week after that, jog for 20 min a day. never push yourself too hard first. until you have build heart muscle from exercise.
@@vicgocrz4914 muscles have to be built up. They rebuild stronger when you work them harder but you can strain muscles and I’m guessing you can strain your heart

Hi Sanjay, your youtubes are so informative , thank you for the content. It's really helped me understand the heart and electrical system. I've experienced all three tachycardia's, (atrial, super and ventricular). I find the atrial the scariest, its utter electrical chaos in the upper chambers when it happens, but I maintain a regular heart rythm. One technique I've learned is hold your breath and pinch your nose, for a few seconds at a time, this puts stress on the vegas nerve and helps to suppress the electrical misfiring, I have found this to be quite effective and shortens the duration of the event. down to 5 to 10 seconds The other two I've found drinking cayenne powder in water as well as juicing lemon in water and staying hydrated really minimises all three.
How timely and appropriate Dr Gupta I was awoken this morning at 4am by my heart racing! It had risen from a normal 78 odd to 91 and it frightened me!After watching this video I realise my calculated rate is nowhere near the increase so I am guessing last night's few glasses of wine, rich food and taking my tabs too late caused the disturbance! I am waiting for oblation treatment for my ectopic. It would seem this 'one off' night of indulgence upset things, however the night wasn't completely ruined because the advice in this video reassured me, once again!Thank You oh so much! !!
Your channel is fantastic. I came here today after a GP was very unhelpful, and a little unprofessional. You have eased some of my concerns with your explanation. Thank you.

Just diagnosed with SVT after an agonizing 3 months. The rapid heartbeat was there, but I became alarmed because it was random, often at rest or asleep, my BP would drop significantly, I had massive headaches and started to black out. I would throw up if it continued. Often I felt all over the place and would cry. So thankful for my cardiologist and medicine, which has helped significantly.
I’m a 34 year old woman & my resting heart rate is between 85-100. Often I’ll be sitting and it’s 98-103. I am about 50 lbs over weight and started working with a trainer 2 months ago. My trainer got worried because when I do moderate exercise it goes up to as high as 194. So long story short is I’m getting checked out…. Thank you for your videos.
Did you ever get it checked out and got an answer? Your numbers are almost exactly what mine have been for the past few months (I'm also 34). I'm planning on setting up a visit with a specialist, but I'm just curious what happened with your issue.
@@adamant5550 I did - I saw a cardiologist and had a bunch of tests done. Everything came back normal. He said I have a naturally high heart rate and that as I get stronger and my body gets used to working out again my heart rate will start to take longer to get up that high. As I’ve continued to work out this has proven to be true. My heart rate no longer gets up in the 190’s. It also takes a bit longer for me to get into the high 180’s. I’ve learned it’s important for me to slowly work up to more intense workouts and to monitor my heart rate during workouts so I don’t overdo it. I’d still recommend getting checked out though. It’ll rule anything else out and give you a piece of mind.
@@H87-u5o Glad to hear it. In the past when I've gone to specialists, I've gotten the same answer. Everything is normal. For me, I'm sure it is more anxiety related.
I’m in a similar boat. Except there are days where I have perfectly normal heart rates (72-80) and with exertion (going up stairs or playing with my kids)I get up to around 105-115. But then a day will pass and I’ll have a “bad” day where the slightest exertion has me over 100 and taking the trash bin to the end of the driveway will have me at 140. It’s so frustrating dealing with this off and on stuff. I have some appts coming up to get checked out … I’ve dealt with palpitations for 17 years to the tune of around 13000 a day. Had a catheter ablation a year ago and it was wildly successful. Palpitations are all but gone.. but now I’m dealing with this inappropriate sinus tach. coming intermittently. So frustrating 😢. It’s difficult to do any exercise as my pulse simply goes too high too fast on these bad days.
I get sudden rapid heart beats a lot. When they happen I basically have to sit down because I feel so fatigue and it gets harder to breathe. I'm only 14 years old, and I would consider myself pretty fit. I also get a lot of chest pain and last time I went to a doctor he said my blood pressure was lower than usual.
I found this video comforting , thank you. I started to feel sickly and got chills with a light elevation in temperature - this being Covid time I got tested with negative results. I was immunized but was insecure with the symptoms. I had a temperature only at night with chills and my resting pulse went every night up by one more beat per minute, from 66 to now 89. With several tests, nothing seems to be wrong. After being on antibiotics for 7 days all symptoms have disappeared but the heartrate is still up. My blood pressure is at around 100/65
Thank you for this helpful, easy to understand video. I have had fast heart beat since I was in my late 20's, so has my sister and now my daughter, age 27 is also having them. My doctor put me on beta blockers and I have been on them for years. I hate to see my daughter go on a drug all of her life, too. She is an ultra marathon runner, US Naval Academy graduate, and just seems odd that she would get this too since she is so fit. If there is any guidance you can give for her being in such great shape.
nice video Doc, I am going in for a pacemaker and an AV node abrasion this Thursday. You videos have reinforced what my Doc has told me, for that I thank you.
Thank you for having answered to many questions i had... i suffer from elevated resting(90/100) /walking(120-150) heart rate almost every day for the past 4 years without any reason. did all the possible checks without any indication of cardiovascular or hormonal problem. Still no clue .
I am experiencing exactly similar. Undergoing checks. I had an episode of Hyperthyroid few years ago and I believe something changed that time. Though T3, T4 and TSH levels are normal, some of the other symptoms like high metabolism and high pulse continue. I am trying homeopathic magnesium supplements. I have also observed that hear rate increasing when there are some digestion / blotting problems. I have also figured that certain food like dark chocolate, Wine, mint etc are triggers for me, But there isn't a correct cause known yet. Just thought of letting you know as this community need to share a lot with each other on what worked and what not? Deep and abdominal breathing does give a temporary effect. I believe all people who were anxious or too fast in actions during their young age face such things later. Not sure if you can relate to this.
Thank you dr guptay. Ive been experiencing rapid heart rates ( fitbit) at night but they are slowly rising and falling over maybe 10 -20 min. No exertion. Good to hear from you no need to worry. I did have a fluttter epos ode fall of 2018. Everything ( echo, EKGS, A TEST TO SEE IF I HAD A HEART ATTACK). All came out OK and ive been in rythym since.
Thank you so much for posting this, you have made such a difference to my life right now. I have been worried sick since my doctor told me I had 130 bpm last week and put me on beta-blockers (which I am not taking due to side effects). I have numerous other health conditions as well as being in withdrawal from Amitriptyline which are likely to be the cause. To hear it from a cardiologist has reassured me. I know I need more exercise and a better diet which I have already started to do. I really can't thank you enough for this video.
i am really proud of you doctor....why indian doctors are not effecient as like you...and you are so correct...and now i am relax from anxiety...my heart is 120 i thought i could die...
If you have 'unusually' (for you) high, or "pounding" heartrate, and prolonged, in response to big meals, after exercise, or any triggers including anxiety, it could be an early warning sign of hyperthyroidism. I wish I got tested sooner but I just put it down to "anxiety". Now I have to suffer much stronger responses, and more. My thyroid tested normal when I first noticed the symptoms, but don't ignore it if it keeps going on, or worsens. For me it was years before it relatively quickly got very bad and I finally sought help (I think for me it was triggered by a virus+menstruation) now I'm on beta blockers, and a high dose of anti-thyroid drugs, the latter takes time to really work, meanwhile I suffer day and night, sometimes it's very stressful
Thank you for explaining this . I was diagnosed with SVT about 2 weeks ago after my heart rate got into the 170s . I’m currently wearing a holter to see exactly what’s going on while I wait to see a cardiologist.. I’m only 24. I was sent home on a beta blocker and it’s helped a lot . I’ve noticed that most of the time I’m fine unless I’m triggered by anxiety . I don’t have random attacks . Usually it happens after I’m really anxious. The tech thought maybe I was misdiagnosed because for most of the time I’m fine .
Same happened to me. Diagnosed with tachycardia at 22 about almost a year ago. Did a bunch of test (blood, X-ray, MRI, EKG, echocardiogram) everything is normal except I'm anemic. I do feel a tightness when breathing but nothing has been explained to me with answers. I was told I'm too young for beta blockers.
@@tigerspiritjourney no vaccine, will not even go there. Covid, maybe. I didn't test to see but I was sick about a month before all this started to happen.
@@ColorfulCanvass I still get shortness of breath a lot but it's not as bad as it used to be. I do also get anxious here and there so I think that affects my HR and breathing more than I realized at first. It just feels like I can't take in a deep breath a lot. My heart rate at resting is below 100s. Usually in the 80s - or low 90s if I've been working out/ stressed the day before or day of. My HR gets between 110-130 when I'm walking around/ brisk walking at work (I'm a waitress) - I just started 2 weeks ago, so I hope over time that exercise will lower it. But other than that my blood pressure has lowered a little so that's great (:
This is a wonderful and informative presentation. It relieves anxiety greatly. I hope you make more videos like this for us who need the information only a cardiologist can offer.

these videos really help me to understand psvt. i am still afraid to exercise... can u explain what can cause the hear to slow down upon standing and then speed back up?
Hmm try Magnesium Glycinate u can find videos about glycinate which help the beats again "RESEARCH Magnesium Glycinate" on youtube also the York Cardiology suggested to take glycinate for PVC/PAC/PSVT etc..
Gosh, thank you so much. Been battling with this for years and it's caused a lot of concern. I think it's hard because we're surrounded by scary health messaging but most people don't know what's normal, I know I tend to panic when something seems different or unexpected...no one has ever explained tachycardia like this before. Please keep doing what you do, clearly a lot of people here getting a lot out of it! All doctors should take a leaf out of your book 🙂

May I ask why ?

I do the same!! I think the Vagus nerve is really involved in many of these issues...especially since having Covid.
Hey Doc
Thank you for taking the time make these videos
Very helpful
Your channel is fantastic.
I came here today after a GP was very unhelpful, and a little unprofessional.
You have eased some of my concerns with your explanation. Thank you.
Thank you very much sir for this informative session.☺
Thank you Dr. Gupta. I have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation for a year. I have a good cardiologist but he doesn't explain everything (like you do). I am immensely grateful for all your videos and the education you provide so graciously. JE in Santa Monica, CA

How are you now
Just diagnosed with SVT after an agonizing 3 months.
@@H87-u5o did it affect your blood pressure?
Your video greatly helped a family member to understand what is going on with their condition. Thank You
Your videos are so helpful and informative. Thank you so much!
You are excellent at what you do.
Reassuring and calm..
Thank u.I am retired nurse / midwife
Thank you so much for your channel and your advice. I have IST, and this resource has been invaluable. Please keep it up.
Dr Gupta is so fabulously reassuring.
Eat a whole food plant based diet
@@jamberry1135 your right I was laking potassium and my heart was going off
I was so worry when my heart beat so fast but listening to your medical advice my heart is well relax and I am so grateful to you. You are so amazing.
Hi doctor, thanks for a wonderful explanation, you're great! Thanks so much!
Its not a perfect worl...
So more you worry. You will have high heart rate.......WORRIES
thank you for your awareness!!!! please continue educating people like myself who are dealing with such things!
Wow you must be a role model for a cardiologist. 👌👌👌
Thank you for this info. I feel so much better now.
Every single video of yours that I have watched has ALWAYS been useful! Thank you for what you freely do for us who search for answers 🙏🙏🙏
She’s still on it? Is it inappropriate sinus tachycardia ?
nice video Doc, I am going in for a pacemaker and an AV node abrasion this Thursday.
@@sandeepgokhale5226 do you have updates I have the same problem
My heart rate 40 per minute
Is it dangerous
i am really proud of you doctor....why indian doctors are not effecient as like you...and you are so correct...and now i am relax from anxiety...my heart is 120 i thought i could die...
Everyone should watch this..thank you for your information Dr Sanjay
@@haileyanderson7870 Have you had Covid or the vaccine?
@@tigerspiritjourney no vaccine, will not even go there. Covid, maybe. I didn't test to see but I was sick about a month before all this started to happen.
@@haileyanderson7870 then how did you recovered?
Indeed you are truly teaching us alot
thank you..wish you were in Tampa fl..I need to get checked out.
Again so informative. Thank you so much for these videos. For someone that really suffers physically and mentally with these ectopics your videos are truly instrumental in understanding what the heck is happening without an immediate death sentence. Google is the worst place to ever seek for help, information and support.
these videos really help me to understand psvt. i am still afraid to exercise... can u explain what can cause the hear to slow down upon standing and then speed back up?
Hmm try Magnesium Glycinate u can find videos about glycinate which help the beats again "RESEARCH Magnesium Glycinate" on youtube also the York Cardiology
suggested to take glycinate for PVC/PAC/PSVT etc..
Thank you Doctor, been having SVT episodes for past two years noone has ever explained it to me as well as you did.
Thank you very much Sanjay it was very helpful
Gosh, thank you so much. Been battling with this for years and it's caused a lot of concern. I think it's hard because we're surrounded by scary health messaging but most people don't know what's normal, I know I tend to panic when something seems different or unexpected...no one has ever explained tachycardia like this before. Please keep doing what you do, clearly a lot of people here getting a lot out of it! All doctors should take a leaf out of your book 🙂
Great video informative
