Firemen carry eleders out of building - Dizaines d'aînés évacués de la résidence St-Malo

Ce matin à 9h30 un incendie s'est déclaré dans une résidence pour personnes âgées au 390 Bord de L'eau Ouest à Longueuil. Sur place de la fumée a été apperçu par les pompiers et policiers au 3e étage de la grande batisse. Des dizaines de résidents à mobilité réduite étaient pris à l'intérieur et des employés de l'établissement ainsi que les pompiers et policiers ont joint leur effort pour les sortir un par un. Des chaises ont été emmenées dehors pour les victimes qui ont ensuite été transférées dans des autobus du RTL. Au moins une personne a été traitée dans une ambulance.
This morning at 9h30 a fire broke out in a senior's residence at 390 Bord de L'eau West in Longueuil. On scene crews could see smoke on the 3rd level of the large building. Tens of disabled residents were stuck inside the building and staff, firemen and police officer all joined their effort to free them one by one. Chairs were taken outside for the victims who were then transferred into an RTL city bus. At least one person was treated in an ambulance.

Hooray for the camo pants. If anyone deserves a decent pension it is cops. But I didn't see any fire; not even any smoke? Whats up with that? Also, what is the red square (tarp?) on the street held down by cones?

Holly Rockwell RIC tarp or a RIT tarp I would assume. RIC stands for Rapid Intervention Crew. A assignment given to firefighters. Once a first truck shows up they usually handle suppression or search given the situation. A different oncoming truck maybe assigned RIC or RIT (same task different names) they usually layout tools and other needed essentials and prepare as a back up team in case conditions change. A RIC team also performs other task needed on the fire grounds while the other trucks are dealing with their given assignments.
