    Thank you I wondered why I could only see 3 coils ,this is 1 of the best videos I have ever watched great information. I have been getting 3 codes p0 171 bank 1 fuel mixture to lean, p01133 now p0300, I have replaced all spark plugs, coils 2,4,6 found vacuum leaks, was going to order plug wires I guess that I need to pull intake and check the other 3 coils thank you so much. I cleared code and drove 100 miles and passed emissions and it did not code after 3 driving cycles then I got p0300 I have watched a lot of videos and you helped me more than all of the others I wish you a blessed Day!

    Your comment on Denso really got my attention. I have has different Toyota models since a 1971 Corolla and have found that their engines really run BEST with Denso spark plugs. A dealer once told me it's because they are engineered for a wider heat range. Tried AC, Motorcraft, Bosch, NGK, etc. Nothing performs from idle to high RPM's like Nippon-Denso.

    • @josephwood499
      @josephwood499 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right, i have an old Toyota Sienna and at one time i put Bosch spark plugs on it and ran like crap. After that, only Denso spark plugs.

    • @bobarmstrong2122
      @bobarmstrong2122 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josephwood499 OMG, Bosch is the one company that I never ever will buy another product from. I had a Fiat that I put a Bosch replacement voltage regulator on. It failed within 2 weeks. Distributor cap and rotor on another Toyota. They also failed soon after purchase. An oxygen sensor on a Solara also was NO GOOD with the same code right out of the box. After that I never bought another Bosch and always tell the parts house NO BOSCH products. So much for German engineering, they are the worst. Use reliable Toyota parts or quality replacements. I never like having to replace something twice.

      I've replaced coils on that engine on a Lexus RX and I found that the original could starts to get micro cracks around the 150k mark. Best to replace all 6 once one then two go also replacing all 6 plugs with Iridium long life plugs. What I also found was the oxygen sensors go around the 125 to 150k mark. A great engine but a lot needs to be replaced if you plan on keeping these ageing Toyota's going longer.

    First off. Great video. Felt every word. Thanks for sharing. I have a question for ya? I'm not tech trained but 30 plus yrs also of back yarding. I have a friend that has a 2000 sienna 3.0 l similar to this motor different looking coil packs but anyways. This van runs great its intermitton at 55 to 75 ish. It will chugging like a misfire. Or bad plug. Kinda thing feels more electric than fuel to me. New plugs about 2 yrs ago. No real issues at other speeds and not every time. Toyota ran a check said possibly one of the cats. Replaced the middle. Still there. Mt question and opinion is a coil pack starting to get bad. It seems more often after it's warmed up than cold up hills at higher speeds intermiten. So my question was what is your opinion just shooting from the hip with a guess.

    Great Video, Highly informative, and up my alley since its only been this year I've started buying and fixing cars with electronics... Btw, thanx for the compliment (9:49). You obviously have quite a bit of experience, but I've never considered myself a contortionist, so here's an easy toyota spark plug hack I put together working on my '99 Sienna. An extended 17mm(11/16ths?) socket, 3 inch extention, and a 3/8ths knuckle attachment (in that order, add another 6 inch extension afterward if your using power tools instead of rachet) made it quite easy to avoid the air intake and take the back 3 spark plugs out in 15 minutes flat.

    Good video. I agree you get what you pay for, always have. I don't see how the "circuit" was bad if it was coil pack, unless you consider the circuit in the pack to be problematic. I always use Toyota parts on my highlander. I have a fairly good Bosch scanner, but nothing like snap on. REALLY liked coil pack tool. Makes it way easy.

  • @plantfeeder6677

    My 2000 3.0 engine in my Sienna has 3 coil packs with lead and boot only on the 1,3,5 cylinders and the coil is $61 at Autozone. I'm glad I don't have this engine in my van, but this has helped me figure out why every two or three weeks I keep getting an ECL reading P1050 or misfire on #5. I drive it everyday so this misfire seems to happen when I've let it sit a few days in cold weather. Have even had the check light flashing but all cleared up and now I get this sporatic code popping up and it is keeps killing me from getting the moniters to reset so I can smog it😣

    Thank you for great video. I am dealing with P0330 error on same car. Some how, it was temperature-dependable at beginning. At warm weather, it would give fuel tank evaporation error, at temperature bellow 32 F it was giving P0330 error. And it is appearing after some driving, not right away. Replacement of front spark plags and electric coils doesn't change anything - still the same problem. From temperature-dependable, over time it became temperature-independent. However, the tank evaporation error still persists at warm temperature. Any suggestion? Thank you.

    • @SandCarServices
      @SandCarServices  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A p0330 code means there is a problem in the knock senor on bank 2. As for the evap leak I recommend having a qualified mechanic that has a smoke machine check it. Evap leaks can be as easy as a loose gas cap to the most common problem of bad charcoal canister that houses the vent/purge solenoids.

  • @DanLoFat
    @DanLoFat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    on the 97 the coils are dual, so if 1 3 or 5 are bad, you change out the dual coil at front matching.
    so if one is bad you replace the coil pack that is in 2. that doesn't fix it and one is still misfiring it's probably either the spark plug or the injector if you assuming the injectors are good is probably the spark plug or the connection to the spark plug and other words that contacts spring is broken and not contacting spark plug.
    yes?

    Really appreciate your teaching. Just wanted to know, have a 1997 1mz-fe and it misfires at around 45-60mph, intermittently.
    I can't use my snap on scanner mode 6 as it doesn't allow me to but the OEM mode works fine.
    How would you find a failing coil pack or HT lead? As mine has the waste spark system. No codes and only at high speeds like a shudder bit you let off the gas pedal it stops...

      4 knock sensor code it probably set with the misfire they are very touchy go ahead and find your other problems correct the problems and clear the codes, then drive it to see if knock sensor code comes back. Sometimes we'll save you a lot of aggravation find to find something that is really not a problem. Always stay to the basics when you diagnose engine codes and a little research will always put you to the right path.

  • @scrunchymacscruff1244
    @scrunchymacscruff1244 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    CHECK ENGINE is a serious problem because DMV suspend your driving PRIVILEGE for it. First code said 02 downstream. So I changed that WITH DENSO and got a code for temperature to low. A dealer mechanic said THERMOSTAT (to dat); so I change dat; and temp. sensor. Next, codes are more stuff. I kept lookin' and found a YT vid that got me to the "overflow" hose under the intake. It was shot, all the coolant leaked once it reached operating temp's. I changed that with a new Toyota part, and as long I was there I changed the KNOCK SENSORS with TOYOTA's stuff PLUS NGK WIRES and expensive PLUGS and put it back with new gaskets. Then it gives me codes for INSUFFICIENT TEMP. AND KNOCK SENSORS AND AIR FUEL SENSOR, B-1&B-2, THROTTLE/PEDAL, it, intermittently dies/craps out once it reaches op.temp. and I am at my wits' end. It runs fine when I start it, accelerates strong, but sometimes slugs out. Still have that light on my dash. COMPUTER?? (I didn't change the oil cause WHY SHOULD I)

    • @SandCarServices
      @SandCarServices  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The function of a knock sensor is the retard or advanced timing when detonation or (pinging) occurs. The misfire most likely are the cause for the bad fuel mileage. You said you have 3 misfire codes. If they are all on same side of engine cam timing might be a tooth off.
