People get “real” jobs through connections. Most posted jobs are either ghost jobs or shit jobs.

The corpos need to fill jobs that people will only do out of desperation or are gathering data to help them suppress wages.

mostly the latter . I see many of the ghost jobs being disappeared, now that the word it out on what companies have been doing for a long time.

A lot of employers want a candidate who can multi-task three different jobs as one.

What's interesting about the connection thing; every job I've had in my career I got from just applying at places. That's 6 different jobs over the course of a 12 year career.
Most large companies really couldn't care less about who you know; they have their process and that's it. You can't bypass the process by having a connection. Amazon is still going to give a software engineering candidate 12 interviews and 4 hours of assessments because it's what they do. Applying at those companies, your resume getting through the ATS is the least of your concerns. You need to be worried about traversing every node in a graph and ordering it into a binary search tree with an O(n) algorithm. Or explaining in detail the difference between a class and an interface.

The confusing economy is a result of the economy splitting into two economies. The asset owners and the poor. Then throw in some falsified statistics about inflation and power parity wages. Your going to have very very confusing signals about how things are doing.

It's really hard these days to find a job in 3 months, good luck. I tried getting a part time job a few years ago at a Menard's and was passed up. A simple job I interviewed for and overqualified, so they passed me up. I'm in IT, and if I get let go it will be hard to get just about any job out there.

In a perfect world we would all do the work and see the fruits of our labor. But there are so many variables when it comes to finding a job. The AI screening is hurting many applicants. If you do not have great connects that's also huring your chances. I would like to see statistics on how many people obtained their jobs without references from someone within the company. Also you have those tedious EEO questions where you can choose to answer or not and then when you do answer you could face discrimination and lets not forget the concept of many employers unconsciously wanting younger candidates with the experience of a middle aged or senior aged candidate. It's unfair, and the work assignments, that is free labor. So between the AI destroying chances, ageism young or old, not to mention being a person with a disability, or another minority group and the pay disparaties. I am shocked it was above 50 percent and not way lower.

Ken, you're theory lecture about network connections is good. But the sad practicality is that people who are decision makers and influencers are not willing to establish network connection unless the worker has something outstanding to offer. Also worker who has something outstanding to offer is usually laid off only when the company is genuinely not able to afford that employee or the worker has attitude problem. Ken grow up, Network connections with people (who can help you) are not sold on Amazon website. They form by chance.

Out of sight, is true. I see way too many people who are let go, say something like they are taking some time off and are still hidden on LinkedIn. They then show up 3-6 months later emailing their old coworkers asking for help, and they have long forgotten about them and would have been willing to help while they were in the sympathy zone of 1 day after layoff for about 2 months. Nothing is more annoying to an old coworker who had to take over your workload, than realizing you got a 6 month vacation, are now feeling refreshed and suddenly want help with a job search. Nope.

Several corporations had significant revenue growth but flat profit growth in 2023, there companies goals for 2024 is to optimize and professionalize, it is an “adjustment” year. Several corporations had to hire several less qualified employees to offset a retiring skilled workforce, this has led to retention, morale, and execution issues. Companies are trying to develop/train their staff, can’t keep filling the business with rookies -> it shifts pressure to senior staff and many will exit for a new employer.

For the first time ima say something I wouldn’t even believe but it happened to me.
I applied for a gs gov job got the interview and it was with an Ahole asking questions well above the pay grade, plus they were questions the public couldnt look up and study.
And I’m a veteran I knew from the questions he asked because I wrote them down to remember, and I asked him where I could go to find the information. He said I couldn’t because they weren’t public info. So he really was holding a position for someone transitioning out the military.
    *I know the game*
Got an interview for another gs pay grade much higher with a greater pay grade range.
Got the job and make well above what I would have been stuck with if I worked for that Ahole and have been doing it for 3yrs with outstanding performance reviews.
Long story short, interviews are a waste of time.
Set the time for resumes to be submitted. If company needs 30 pick the top 30.

Entry Level Jobs be like: Bachelor's degree, 5 years of full-time experience, 1 year probationary period, pay $15/hour. Middle class jobs be like: 2 years of entry level job or master's degree, 1 year probationary period, state certified, pay: $25/hour. Applicant number: 2,143 people have applied to this job. So, yeah, it's fairly hopeless if you need 10 years of experience, won't get benefits until after 12 months and are competing against 2000+people.
