I think I understood Katie's trick: She does her best not to listen what is being said and only reads out the words without thinking about their content, just going one word at a time.
She also takes her time, in this clip she paused after every few words then continued, like an audiobook recording, how many times have you heard someone reading for an audiobook laugh at something while recording, even if it’s a real person, they don’t, otherwise the listener wouldn’t take it seriously, so Katie basically reads it like a public speaking speech, she has the highest experience, she’s been with CH since Jake and Amir were still here, she may not laugh, but she may still get defeated if someone else gets tied at zero
She's literally following the directions of the drug songs though, so she's clearly listening. She's just got mad self control.
