    A few years ago my uncle passed away. I was going to the funeral with my parents so I showed up at their house in a suit. It was my mother's brother and she was one of 12 siblings. My Mom said "You look so nice. I don't get to see you dressed up that often." I gave her a hug and said "Don't worry, you have plenty of brothers and sisters left."

    A few hours after my grandmother died, my wife (of 2 months)'s mother died. My grandmother was 94 and was in onvious decline, so everyone understood that my mother-in-law's death was "more tragic." But it was still really weird when we flew to Ohio for my Grandmother's funeral, someone my wife had met like 3 times, and everyone kept telling her how sorry they were. The whole experience of flying from home to one funeral and then back home for a second one was just very surreal.

    My grandmother passed a week ago and I have a separate funeral to attend in two days. Loved this. Also, after I had been in the room with a friend as she died of cancer, I had another friend write me a letter about his experience of his cat dying...so, yeah.

    Decades from now at a furenal a small group of people are conversing as a man approaches, silently waiting until a break in the conversation as he then pipes up "So how do you all know Michael?" The group looks about at each other and one person speaks " I was watching a very old video where he invited everyone to his furnel, I assume that most of the people are hear because of that video?". The group then nods and mummers in agreement. The man slowly slips away and begins moving between groups of people for what seemed like hours only to find that all of the guests were here due to that video. The man being a proud great grandson is filled with joy.

    People don't realize the power of the hug especially a random one. A good hug can turn a bad day into a better one and a good one into the best one.

    • @literaterose6731
      @literaterose6731 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I understand the kind intent behind this sentiment, I feel it’s important to add that any hugs, including random or unplanned, should always be preceded by CONSENT. Not everyone is comfortable with or has their day improved by unexpected touching, for any number of reasons. I’m one of those people; a “random” hug out of the blue without my consent is traumatic and can be physically painful or even damaging for me, not helpful or lovely. So please, always ask first: “Would you like a hug?” or “May I give you a hug?” If you get a yes, go on and make that person’s day brighter! And if you get a no…make that person’s day brighter by respecting their boundaries and letting them know you care! Thank you 🥰

    • @stefanmaart
      @stefanmaart ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@literaterose6731 I agree with you 100% you worded it perfectly. To me it goes without saying because even I would not be comfortable with just a random hug from just anyone so yes it should be preceded with consent.

    Thank you for the warning of what not to do at a funeral. ;-) The last one I went to was the funeral of a friend that committed suicide. That definitely had an impact on how we all felt. "Why didn't we know? What could we have done?" Etc... Great skit from you all again, but I think I always love your after-skit chats. You were geniuses to have that as part of the format. It's what makes this work and is so enjoyable.

    • @cherrybomb3595
      @cherrybomb3595 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That happened at my mother's funeral, too. I think part of the reason is that the people who were really close to the person have been processing the death while they were preparing for the funeral, the people who are more distantly connected are just coming to terms with the death at that moment.

    Nailed it! My mom died unexpectedly this year and we had a "celebration of life" gathering at the family home. Generally, everyone was very nice and supportive, old friends came from long distances to pay their respects. My poor dad, though - he is in a wheelchair and got totally pinned down from this lady from town that none of us really knew. I think she was lonely - maybe she thought she needed to get in on the only single octogenarian around, who knows?! His old friends kept trying to get a word in edgeways, but to no avail..

    At my funeral (or more likely the after-funeral services), there needs to be a party with different themed rooms. Like one room for board games, one room for watching cheesy horror movies, one room for making/taking funny photos, one room for face painting, and other stuff like that.

    My mother passed away about 15 years ago. One of my managers (who I’d told my dad for years about being just an awful, miserable old lady) attended. She walks up to my dad during the part where people walk through the line to pay respects to the family/deceased and I can’t make this up…looks at my dad who she had never met previously and says, “you just got to move on sweetheart. I know it’s tough, but you just got to pack up their stuff and get rid of it. Don’t go wallowing in the past.”
    Then proceeded to give him this half hug. She of course says her condolences to me and moves on down the line. My father barely waited for her to be out of earshot when he turned to me and said “Jesus Christ, lady. Can we put her in the ground first?” Me and my brothers had all we could do from not busting out in tears…but not from sadness.

    I found myself getting angry at the funerals while listening to things people said about the deceased. So much of it was just _fake_ and _superficial_ . I've had far too many funerals in my life and I relate to this content a ton. I want my funeral to be a giant food fest/buffet situation and my casket would be at the top of a small ziggurat in the center so that people can come up and look/talk to my body if they want but don't have to see me if they don't want to.

    • @kameljoe21

      I am not going to have one. I have told my family they can do one of 2 things. Cremate me and then toss me in the trashcan on the way out after they call to pick up the ashes or let them be abandoned or they can call someone to dig a hole in the back yard and dispose of me in said hole after they call for a death certificate. Each are very cheap and will lessen the strain on everyone. When people ask about me people will just say he passed x long ago. Its far healthier when people hear about it later as it lessen the blow.
      I have been to a number of funerals, from ones that fill up the entire school gym with almost the entire community showing up. In the thousands to one where no one showed up other than the host, myself and my two guest. I know the hardship they have on people.

      This is so real - I was 11 when my older brother died, and everyone kept telling me how sorry they were. All I could think was, "why are you apologizing, you didn't hit him with your car." Now at funerals, I usually say "This sucks, but it gets better." That usually gets a nod and a smile in return.

    Established Titles is pretty brave to sponsor this channel. Are you able to make Scottish jokes? Like with kilts and lassies, or haggis and stuff? Bagpipes are always good

    Idk if it’s not the norm but I am just as upset if not more by the death of my pets than people I care about. I love them just as much as a human child and it’s just as upsetting to lose them.

    Isn't a LIVE band rubbing it in? How about a DJ playing only songs from a band of people who are all dead? Who are all dead but were born around when you were? Who were one of your favourites? Or only a number of people and bands but they all have to be dead? Or the Grateful Dead?

      Okay not even related to a funeral I'm now imagining a band called Alive Band.
      "I'm going to Alive Band in concert next week."
      "Oh what's the band?"
      "The band Alive band."
      "Right, which band?"
      "No I saw Which Band last month"
      "But who's on first?"
      "Oh their opening act? Doors Open I think it said."
