I am always on the look out for grammatical errors. I am an English major in college, and I am minoring in creative writing with the hopes of becoming an editor/ proofreader. The most common errors that I find are homonyms and quite a bit of mechanic and usage problems.
I’m actually finishing up the Proofread Anywhere course, I got it while discounted almost a year ago, it gives you great starting tips and practice for getting up skills, building a portfolios and so much. There are two levels of the general course offered and marketing specifics would be accessible within the plus option. I only have the regular currently but I’m sure there are marketing tips and guidance online
@@stateofconsciousness9174 I didn’t have a lot of money at the time even with a discount and the other type is more expensive (both the plus and the transcript one) and I wanted to see what the general course had to offer. I hadn’t stuck with it to completion as of current but it wasn’t a bad starting place. There is a supportive Facebook group but only to an extent. The marketing specifics are for the plus students only unfortunately 🙄 So I guess it depends on which you’d like to commit to. I hope I answered your question 😅
Thanks for the video! I have spotted errors my whole life, as early as 6 or 7, reading menus and finding misspellings. I did medical transcription for 13+ years as well as proofread other transcriptionists’ work, so I may give this a try as a side hustle. 😊

I received my degree in journalism. I worked in sports public relations for four years out of college however I have not written much in the last 14 years. I want a work from home job and I think this best suits my skills.
This keeps happening even when reading books, especially older versions of them. Many typos, and some grammar errors, but especially for emails and texts nowadays. Thank you for this video!
Great video, very helpful. Yes, I often see grammatical errors when I read. It is something that happens without any effort, and what I use to determine the trustworthiness of a product or communique. I expect professionalism in product reviews. Without it I will move on to another vendor.

In December, I will graduate with a BA in English with a focus on professional writing. I've been researching to determine what I want to do after I graduate and proofreading would be amazing! There is just so much information on the Internet that it is overwhelming. I don't know where or how to start.
I want to do this !! I used to proofread my husband’s emails. English wasn’t his strong suit. Our grammar is horrible, when I hear a news anchor “I have went…” it’s like nails on chalkboard. 😮

I am definitely someone who finds errors in something I’m ready no matter what that may be. My friends and family actually get tired of me pointing out their mistakes in text messages. Lol. My friends and family also pick on me because I use punctuation when texting. Lol. Lol.
Yes! This is how I started my job as an editor. My friend noticed I would always notice her errors when she sent me a piece. She asked why not make money off of this?

Yes, I absolutely catch mistakes all of the time in captioning and articles etc etc. I worked with a millionaire who couldn’t spell! I did sign up and have lifetime access to a proofreading course that ends with a certificate but the support was absolutely terrible I couldn’t endure it.
I always always find editing mistakes in online publications and i literally am salivating for the chance to get to make a little extra income doing this type of work.

I am on the same boat as you, Sabrina. I have worked as a chemist for 15 years. I need a change and I was looking at this as something I can do as I work on raising family and travel.
I have a tricky question: I do proofing for hundreds of clothing designs for a collegiate apparel company like making sure logos are correct, the colors are correct, the spelling for each school is correct, etc. So when doing a job search, would it be more helpful to look under proofing or quality control?
I'm an avid fiction reader and I have found a few errors as I've read. It drives me a little crazy when I find them because I want to automatically fix it, not to mention that it can potentially jar the reader out of the fiction world. I would love to spend my day proofreading because it would allow me to do something I already enjoy so much. I grew up with my mom and I called her a walking, talking dictionary because if I didn't know a word, she would be able to help me just as well as Google can these days. Any tips for me as a beginner are welcome, because I am interested in making this my stay at home job. I'm highly antisocial, so it would fit me perfectly.
A lot of times what I'll notice is an incorrect duplication of a word, like "and and," where it's clearly not an intentional choice (in the wonderfully weird ways English can be sometimes). Other times, it'll be "his" or "is" when the opposite is what was meant to be written.
And just a tip for anyone watching, that first “free resource” isn’t free. When I tried it it was a short workshop (the teaching part was short) and then basically a very long extended promo for a $600 proofreading course (this was back in 2020, not sure what it costs now.)
Even though I am not a native English speaker I find so many mistakes in published documents be they typos, grammar and/or syntax errors. My whole education and career since the age of 12 (I am currently 59) has been in English so, I believe, I am well equipped to do this. Would this work from Rome, Italy where I currently reside?
I have a question to ask? Should I pursue education first or should I search for jobs first instead? Or perhaps do both together? A response is appreciated!

How is the proofread document delivered back to the client? Do proofreaders print the document, manually correct it, then scan it back to the client? Or are there apps for this?
