    Your videos have been a huge inspiration for me for so long in my soap making, and I actually found you when researching solid shampoo SOAP with your brine shampoo bar video. This type with the sodium coco noodles, what's the advantage of these over a classic shampoo soap? (I've used shampoo soap for 2 years and change now since learning to make it and not sure I could go back to a surfactant) but other than the hearts are VERY cute :D what do you like that's different? I didn't hear you mention it, so sorry if this is a repeat question. Thanks for being so awesome and bringing us inspiring content!

    Hi. Shampoo bars look great! Conditioner however shouldn't be optional. You have BTMS 50 in your bars so they can be considered as a conditioning shampoo bar. Then the need for a separate Conditioner is not essential. The BTMS 50 basically restores the hairs natural charge (without getting technical!)which is the main purpose of conditioner. Please don't think I'm criticising. I'm not. I greatly appreciate your work. I hope I can be helpful. Also have you considered adding cetrimonium chloride to your bars? 2% makes such a nice addition in detangling and static etc.

    • @ArianeArsenault
      @ArianeArsenault  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kelley Spartiatis hey Kelley! No worries, I love constructive criticism. You know what? My boyfriend has short & oil hair and he rarely uses conditioner. For me, it’s exact opposite, I have long curly & dry hair, so I need a good conditioner most of the time. And yes, because the btms in the shampoo it helps with conditioning but not as much as a true conditioner that you would use separately. This is why I say that you may or may not a conditioner after using this shampoo. It depends on the hair type of the person using it. Cheers!

    • @kelleyspartiatis4776
      @kelleyspartiatis4776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ArianeArsenault I thought you said that conditional is optional after any shampoo. Many people do think that conditioner is only necessary for people with damaged or dry hair. In the same way people think the oil that is mostly added for label appeal is what conditions their hair. Another misconception is that we shouldn't condition the top near our scalp. Again, not true. It's something that hairdressers tell clients too!

    • @huntsman145
      @huntsman145 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kelley you thought wrong 19:31 ''you may or may not want/need to use a conditioner"

    • @kelleyspartiatis4776
      @kelleyspartiatis4776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@huntsman145 actually no I'm not wrong. I was being polite. Regardless of whether your hair is oily or dry or even if it's perfectly healthy, you should always use a conditioner. The job of a conditioner is more than aesthetics. Many soap makers don't know much about chemistry and make soap that they call shampoo which is horrible for our hair so when a soap maker who is talented and a nice person who shares her work is making real shampoo and I can give some advice then I will. It's called constructive criticism. So please, don't patronise me for being polite and choosing not to outright tell someone they are wrong.

    • @huntsman145
      @huntsman145 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kelley She's saying 'use your better judgement' instead of MUST because millions of people go a lifetime without using any just fine. We all know that. If that triggeres you so much, go ahead, help everybody out by explaining all the horrible things that have happened to those people's hair without them noticing, instead of nitpicking the word "optional". Cite your chemistry sources while you're at it. And I wasn't patronising, I didn't say anything about your advice, I was just pointing out to you she wasn't contradicting herself and you were being unnecessary pedantic. You seem overly invested in this. That's constructive cricism btw.

    Normal body pH is 7.35 to 7.45 however this shampoo bar have to be a every day shampoo bar because remember your scalp can go from normal to oil depends on sebaceous gland
    your body is also the the same, sometimes it all depends on the climate you live in or your culture and your ethnicity, making a shampoo bar at 5 on the ph scale that is at least 7 sound like a Cow-ash bar.

      HANDMADE COSMETICS LADY From all my research I have found that human hair usually has a ph between 4.5 and 5.5 I could be wrong, but so far the way I make my solid shampoo they aren’t a co-wash. They work very well to cleanse the hair and scalp and leave the hair feeling nice and smooth.

      What are you talking about? Her ph is perfect for shampoo. Ph 7 is neutral and still too alkaline for shampoo. Skin is around 5.5 and hair around 3.75 so both slightly acidic. You're meant to wash your scalp not hair and so a 5 works. Anything higher or lower will upset the balance of the scalp. Conditioner is better to be lower because you condition the hair and not the scalp. Even regular water is too high in ph for our hair.

    I’ve seen youtubers make bars of soap and call it shampoo bars but they don’t include any of these shampoo ingredients, my question is are we just washing our hair with plain soap or are the two interchangeable?

    • @ArianeArsenault
      @ArianeArsenault  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      pamela gilmore this is a surfactant based shampoo bar. We can also make cold processed shampoo bars but the PH will be slightly higher and it doesn’t work well on everyone’s hair. You can read more about this on the soapguild.org

    Bonjour Ariane, j'ai une question : n'est on pas censé chauffer le tensioactif avec un peu d'eau pour obtenir une inconsistance pateuse avant de le mélanger au reste des ingrédients ? Les pastilles ne devraient plus être visibles. C'est le mode d'emploi de celui que j'achète..

      @@Artiefrog the only chemical used to make homemade soap is lye. After it becomes soap there is no lye left over. If you could be more descriptive as to what she is allergic to that would help.

    I'm using 57% sci noodle and 23% coco betaine, but when I mix them the shampoo is too wet. I continue put cocoa butter and cetyl alcohol etc. But the shampoo is still too wet. I mean you can't press it with bath bomb press cause it sticky everywhere. I wonder if my formula is wrong? :( Am I too much add coco betaine, or should I make half of my sci noodle in powder form? Oh also, is SCI smells strong? Mine smells like strong coconut and it fragrance doesn't cover the smell at all.

    Since you've already made the shampoos before testing them... What do you do if the PH is too low or too high?

    • @ArianeArsenault
      @ArianeArsenault  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Debbie Baker the first time you try a batch, make a small batch. Downsize your recipe. This way if the PH isn’t right, you can adjust by using lower ph ingredients if the final PH is to high and you don’t have too much ingredients loss. Everything is about testing

    • @kellyw.1779
      @kellyw.1779 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Eszter, I have seen many people make these without a "press" from plastic, silicone and metal baking molds as well. I would say the metal or plastic is the way to get a good hard solid shaped bar. Just make sure you press them "really hard" to "compact" the mixture into the molds so they will hold their shape after unmolding. Get creative and have fun with it!! ; ) ((Hugs)) from Texas!! xx : )
