    I purchased the 13.4 model and was blown away when I plugged it in and saw the image quality. I use a multi monitor setup at the office, so it’s hard when on the road. Ordered the 16” model and will take it with me on a 20 day trip coming up. Thanks for a very helpful review.

    Hi Alex! I am a student (that just returned from a big tech internship so I have budget for things like this haha) and I was looking for something EXACTLY like this to compliment my macbook pro, and as a student I move all the time so I needed portability and I do not need an iPad (I have a eink tablet for notes, supernote) so THANK YOU for bringing this to my attention, will make sure to buy this from your amazon link ;)

    I got the LG 2K portable monitor (16 inch, LG 16MR70.ASDU1 16” Gram +View IPS Protable Monitor, Silver) and couldn't be happier. I also like that this has a slim case/stand but that part of the base cover that reaches into the front on a coffee shop table, doesn't work (interferes with a mouse or pen tablet). Battery usage is awful. Great review.

  • @terionname

    Did you adjust scaling for this monitor? 4k doesn't play nice with mac os, it's default scaling is adjusted to 1440p and it works nice with 5k, but for 4k to get smooth image mac os renders image in HUGE resolution and downscales it to 4k. This dramatically affects performance and battery life, So usually it is better to set 1080p scaling for 4k displays - then image will be rendered in native resolution and should get far better battery life. But on the other hand 1080p scaling... should be ok for 13.4 inch, but for 16inch... dunno

    awesome! i did a „yesss!“ on the glossiness - i have to take care of reflections anyway, so i don‘t mind doing that for this external display too, as my mac is glossy. BUT i get the same look and feel (glossy, ppi, brightness) on both devices, which is more important to me.
    thank you for reviewing and sharing this, alex! 🖤
    one question on battery drain - which (the drain) was obvious to me: is there a possibility to connect that display to an external source, so only data is transported via thunderbolt? because if, i would prefer an external battery/powerbank to keep my mac my last to die and not kill its battery too fast.
    hope you can answer that.

    I am curious why you wouldn't just use an iPad. Setup is actually nothing - it just works, no cable needed. Screen is great and it has its own battery, so not draining your laptop. Weighs about the same and there are loads of cheap stands and covers. And, well, it's an iPad, too. You can get a used one if this is your primary use and you need to save money. Of course, if you are not running MacOS, this won't work.

    • @AZisk
      @AZisk  ปีที่แล้ว

      i tried the iPad route, and while it’s pretty good (especially if color accuracy is important) for all the points you made, i like having more control of the display, and Apple severely limits that in sidecar. Also I want something reliable that won’t disconnect on me. I know it’s not a big deal to just reconnect the iPad when the connection drops, but it’s really annoying. It’s probably a matter of each person finding certain things more annoying than others. Would be great to see Apple invest more in making sidecar more reliable with more resolution options, and maybe keeping touch

    If it has aluminum case how would magnetic holder would work? Also do you even need that kind of monitor? I’m also software engineer and have tons of apps open database software, vim tmux (iterm) etc, iPad also has sidecar and I tried to use it as monitor, but to be honest I felt that, screen was just standing next to me and I wasn’t even using it so, I still don’t understand why you guys prefer dragging additional displays, every time I see someone saying oh it’s so useful and I’m just watching how often they use and like never ))) I personally think that 99% people barely use second screen, it is useful if you steam and you have to watch chat or OBS while playing whatever, but dragging additional display, and other than that, those displays cost a lot for their size, you can buy iPad that is more useful and just use sidecar mode. I don’t know it’s just my opinion based on real life experience, again… every time I heard by someone that they use second monitor very often and then when you look them and entire hour and they looked to a second monitor only twice or so… anyway…

Yes, I now use a second screen on the go pretty much all the time if desk space is available and I'm not on an airplane. Oh, and this is an aluminum monitor, but it has magnets build it. Whatever holder you will mount this on must align with those magnets. The stand I bought didn't quite reach. So it's a bit my fault too.

      @@AZisk Thanks for reply, I watch all your videos and I love content, that message wasn't directly about you, I was saying in general about dual monitor setup. so thank you again for your time to reply.regarding the aluminum it's pretty terrible for that kind of stuff, that's why almost none of devices have charger or anything behind the aluminum and only glass or plastic is used. even Apple couldn't solve that problem and WiFi antena is inside the macbook display because of how aluminum is interfering with electro magnetic signal and everything inside it, so it's not your fault nor that display holder's manufacturer, it's display manufacturers fault. also you can remove this comment if you want, this comment was for you so if you already read it you can remove. also I would love to see other laptop test results, you have lots of good resources already to properly test, most of the youtubers nowadays only test laptops visually or just random battery tests, but there are barely content to see how those laptops can hold battery life when used as development machine or any other heavy tasks, lots of content creators are sometimes advertising some brand for example razer blade, which I had and I thought based on reviews was a great device, but it appears Razer is worst in terms of thermal and how consistant it is and also it has terrible software compared to ASUS Armoury Crate for example, I bought Asus Zephyrus G15, because I was so annoyed with Blade 15, and Zephyrus basically destroyed Razer with every single stat, it had better battery life even on performance mode, Razer was barely running 35% of it's power on battery while ASUS managed to almost play games 100FPS+ on battery which is crazy good I think, but nobody tests those stuff like this, even large youtubers like LinusTechtips they use laptop for 1 day to see how it works for them, and it works for them I mean, they always pay attention to stuff that matters for youtube content creation like if laptop has SD Card reader it's somehow greatest laptop of all time and numpad, while almost everyone I know hates when laptop has numpad, because it's not ergonomic, nobody uses numpad and it shifts entire keyboard left etc, also nobody cares about how it handles rest of the stuff, you tested Apple sillicon better than they did, because they have very specific tests like how well it can render video from FinalCut, but problem is that 10 times more developers use mac as a development machine than anyone else use it for finalcut, which means they are testing those devices for very narrow audience, for me their tests are useless, I personally use macbook 14^ and I love this machine, but many people have more than single laptop, including me and you as I see, for example I use PC laptop for machine learning, because there are some stuff in machine learning that Apple Silllicon still has some problems, so I think there are lots of people who need real scenario testing like you did for M1/M2 to be done on PC laptops, I understand gaming laptops are expensive and you can't test 50 laptops each month, but still it's good content idea I think, because there are lots of people interested to have this kind of test results on PC machines. thank you and have a good day.

You move around in those travel backpacks with space for a tent for 4 people, gas stove, foldable silverware, canned food in case of a snow storm that will hold you for several days in a food-less shelter. Also you always take 3 times the personal space in those coffee tables and you take all the power outlets available. I will list this as a CON against you. In a lighter note, you got like 5000 PROS, so you are still in the good side. But I am watching you - 🧐- literally. ❤

      Yes, I like to bring my office. BUT, I also carry an extension cord with multiple outlets and share with fellow coffee house heads.

      @@AZisk You could probably stick some vinyl on the back of the screen, than glue a thin plastic sheet size of the mount for extra rigidity. Than sand a plastic for a better adhesion and glue it to a mount. The screen seem light enough to even hold on some quality double sided tape to a 100mm wide mount!
