I love when you are both folding in the centimeter of fabric. I had to laugh Arne taking over Carlos’ job !You can tell you have been together a long long time. Very sweet 💜🌿💚
Lined curtains and table cloths to go with the placemats. A pretty dress or skirt for those of us who wish to dress modestly but doesn't break the pocket book. Pillows for all areas of the house. The possibilities are endless. Can hardly wait to see your fabric line.
This is a great idea to make the placemats out of the fat quarters, because you save a lot of fabric and it’s expensive. Thank you so much I learned a lot today.
I so enjoy watching you two sewing. Learning the metric measurements here in the USA for us older girls is hard. Lots of things here are using metric measurements. Hopefully as we keep trying we will get. North Carolina USA
Tote bags would be a good project. Bags to take shopping to avoid using plastic. Sewing knee cushions for gardening and cushions for outdoor furniture. Pretty pillowcases made with your lovely fabric.
I prefer metric when I sew, and I have several metric Olfa rulers. Your fabric is beautiful, and you guys are a great team, Ironman and The Ripper. Thank you for the entertaining demonstration!
That's the rule: fabric scissors for fabric ONLY! Love the envelope corner. Thank you! Summer going well? Good to see you two today. Most of our measuring instruments have both metric and "inches " marked and the children in the USA are much more comfortable with metric than their grandparents.
Hi lovelies , greetings from Ireland . I would love to see tutorials for project bags , circular needle holders , aprons, table runners , placemat for hot pots placed on table . Oven gloves , pillow cases ... etc :0) Loved your video as always . Those corners were 😍
Thankyou both of you. You have helped so many people, me being one of them😁, throughout these difficult times. I have bought a few of your books over the recent weeks and so far I have made 3 lovely quilts. 12 gorgeous birds and 6 lovely ideas books, all with the help of my 7 year old granddaughter 😁 She made a lovely cookbook and is busy filling it with recipes😂 then we made grandad a bird 🦅 book to record his sightings when he goes birdwatching. We’ve been so busy thanks to both of you we have hardly had a moment to be ‘bored’. Keep well both of you and keep up the good work. Love you both 💜🌷💚
Gentlemen, greetings from Georgia, USA. I really enjoy your show; so happy I found you. I want to make these placemats; but first I'll need to buy some of your beautiful fabric. And, yes, I would appreciate a video on making project bags and accessories to match. Thank you! Stay safe and well.
Although I don't sew, I really enjoyed this video because it brought back so many wonderful memories of watching my mother and grandmother sew. The pace, lighting, and conversations were all very relaxing. I plan to watch it again. Well done. Per your request for further sewing ideas, a project bag with pockets.
Gentlemen for the scissors make a leather case using the paper one as a template. Safer to travel with and store. I have a sewing only scissors that is in it’s own little case and my family knows do not touch. Separate scissors for paper have colorful handles. As far as converting from metric to inches I am using your instructions with metric that helps me understand metric. So it is a good thing to learn something new. I do love the red fabrics that Arne showed. Would be nice for an everyday December winter time placemat. Those are sharp scissors! Like cutting into butter. I agree the ironing should not be overlooked.
I love your fabric line. I was over at the Anchor site looking at all the colourways and thinking about pillows. While it's hard to pick a favourite, the Solhatt design makes me feel happy when I look at it.
It would be beautiful to make a set of napkins using all of the different coordinating fabrics from a collection. For a family that “saves” their napkins from meal to meal, everyone could be sure they are using their own napkin. You are the best! ALWAYS inspiring!
Hi Guys, The fabrics are so pretty. I was taught by my sister to wash, dry and iron cotton fabric to preshrink the fabric before cutting and sewing. I will be trying that cool corner thing for sure. Sandie USA
Hi Arne and Carlos. How are you doing? I love, love the place mat. I just finished one pillow with the patches you designed and I crocheted a black band around. Looks pretty cool. Then I packed it will black fabric in a cross over panels. It looks fabulous and I think my son will love it. Thank you so much. Oh, I had to blow off a lot of dust from my sewing machine. Ha Ha!!
"If you know how to cheat, you know how to sew." Love this. Does it also apply to knitting? Because I cheat at that a little bit, too. Lovely video guys!
To echo what others have said -- knit and/or crochet needle cases are always useful - as are project bags (zip, drawstring, or bento closure). I have to admit though, I'm a bit addicted to project bags, both making my own and buying from others, so I have trouble being objective. Thanks, gentlemen! You always bring a smile and great ideas to the table. Hugs from Maine...
Aprons! Your fabric would be so cute in an apron. I like the kind that cross with straps in the back and you put it on over your head, but any kind really.
Came as soon as I got the notification! Your timing is perfect, this very week I picked up my mother’s old sewing machine from the repair shop, and I’m looking for new projects so I can practice my sewing a bit! Thank you so much, love your videos! ♥️
Hello A&C! Would love to see a summer tunic dress or simple summer shift dress! Needle/hook case/tote would be fun also. Plus, maybe, Arne's shirt he made in your new fabrics? I really enjoy your videos and content. Since I'm now knitting and crocheting the Norwegian way - my neck and shoulders thank you!!!
Almost 50 years ago I decided that I CAN NOT sew ! But now, seeing this, I begin to wonder if I should get a machine and try again :D Thankyou for such a great tutorial !!!! Yes, something to hold knitting/crochet needles would be wonderful . At least I can watch in awe how you do it ;-)
This comment makes me laugh because my mother tried to teach me to sew when I was a teenager and I got so mad ripping out seams I messed up that I swore I'd never sew again. Knitting and crochet are fine, but sewing just seems impossible.
Lovely tutorial and your fabric designs are beautiful. I have a tip for you should you make another dozen placemats. In order to speed up the production, iron the interfacing (that's what we call it in the U.S.) on a large section of uncut fabric. Then, when you cut the fabric the interfacing is already attached.
The placemats are gorgeous. When you were adding the muslin backing, I was thinking the mats might be made reversible and get double the usage out of them. Thanks for sharing the tips for making the corners. Have a great week and stay safe.
Thanks for another fun video Arne & Carlos! I love that you’re both so encouraging and humble. I hope you are well Arne and that you’re feeling better Carlos. Take care, we miss you ❤️
Hi Arne&Carlos, A needle case for dpns, and interchangeable circular needles would be good😀 And even a shirt sounds like fun:) Thank you for sharing a great tutorial.😘 KimXX
I love doing the snip and rip technique. Finally got myself some fabulous scissors last year after my kids moved out. Projects for the future....possibly cooking apron and coordinating hot pads, a knitting project tote, all sorts of possibilities using your beautiful line of fabrics .
I love you guys! I look forward to every one of your videos. You are so knowledgeable and you are able to explain the details very well. Thank you and I hope you guys are having an awesome weekend!!
You guys are so clever! Thanks for the helpful suggestions on how to make a great corners. I also have holy scissors ✂️ lol... my kids complain about the fact that they aren’t allowed to use them. 😂 I think it is easy for us to use centimeters even if we use inches. The tape measure has two sides and we can easily flip it and use centimeters and follow you guys exactly. Thanks and hope you have a great week! Much love to both of you!
Ooooo I would love some of that fabric in a project bag. Make a project bag in the Scandinavian Red. That would be beautiful. Thanks for that placemat video I loved it
Just watched your instruction. Those corners are neat. And making it first in paper is such a good idea! The last few weeks I have sewn Barbie doll clothes for my granddaughter all by hand, because for such small sizes it is not worth getting the sewing machine on the table. I would like to make a pillowcase for small pillows if possible. Due to our age we bought special kind of pillows for our heads on our bed. When you buy duvetcovers those come with one size pillowcases. They never fit our special pillows. But I am sadly to inexperienced to adapt a pattern. Wouldn't know how to do that. Just started to do more sewing after about 38 years just using the machine for little jobs like patching or shortening trousers. Thanks very much. Marian from Fryslân (North of the Netherlands, not Holland!!)
If you take care with the size of your stitches, it will have a 'finished' look. I like a slightly larger length stitch which can be seen a bit mostly depending on the color of the thread on the color(s) of the fabric. Proper size stiches also means the placemat does not pucker up along that seam line. Beautiful fabrics!
Your fabric line is gorgeous. I love the deep colors. I'll have to keep an eye out for it here in the US. 🌼🌸🌺🐝🌱 Luckily for us in US, our tape measures have centimeters on one side and inches on the other so no need to convert your measurements. 😁
The Japanese made scissors are the best. They are meticulous about their sewing tools and did you know, that they have a ceremony every February 8th. The Ceremony of the Broken needle, where they dispose of broken or bend needles. Maybe you could make a Ceremony of the Dead Scissors! I am of the new subscribers that will help you to 100,000. Kate, from The Last Homely House, mentioned you both in her video. Entertaining and educational at the same time.
I've found it easier to use metrics if that is how the instructions are written. If converting, you can get into some crazy fractions. In the USA the usual seam allowance, when quilting, is a quarter inch. Really enjoy your tutorials! Thanks!
Hi A&C for the moment I am sewing a lot. So this tutorial came in handy. I have made skirts from jeans I didn’t like to use anymore. Everything you do is awesome💕💕Thank you
Cool! How about matching curtains, a table runner, and seat cushions where everything matches? Nice job, Arne & Carlos! When I was first married, my husband went into the Army (October 1969). We didn't have much money, so I always made simple curtains and matching tablecloths. Your video brought back fond memories of feeling good that I made something worthwhile on my own.
I love the fabric, gorgeous. Snow in the background made me realise it was way before all happened. I promised t o make the chair covers for my sons car. I'm fond of sewing. It's a craft eh ;>D Argh, sewing scissors used unauthorised. My kids used it to cut paper, surprised I was angry. And I never ever iron. Youth trauma, refuse it now. And dresses, yes!
I believe your North American viewers will find that a standard seam allowance would be 1/4” for the first fold, and 1/2” for the second fold. Not exactly the same as metric, but close enough! Thanks for this great tutorial.
Arne and Carlos you have inspired me so much, I’m learning to knit (I’m a crocheter) and to sew again! Thank you! Love your videos and hope you are enjoying your time off in that wonderful garden of yours. 😊💕
Hi! For a small project, maybe a nice holding bag for your knitting ball so you can knit on the go. The most ambitious thing would be a unisex button down shirt. I'm crazy about the shirts but only if the fabric is really interesting (like your bird shirt.) so I'm looking for patterns to make my own with fun fabrics I find.
Thank you, I enjoy knitting and crochet but I LOVE to sew. Clothes, quilts, place mats, anything really so I enjoyed this. I use chopsticks on my corners to push them out. I used to own a fabric store and ripped a lot but there is a sound that really good, sharp scissors make and I could hear it with that pair..lol Do you ever pre-wash your fabrics so the shrinkage is already accounted for ? This was also a really pretty video to watch, not sure if it was the lighting or the room but very nice. Hope you are continuing to feel better, enjoy your week !!
Barb Smith. My mother and grandmother were both excellent seamstresses, and my grandmother sewed professionally. I regret not having the patience to continue on with sewing after having had a few rudimentary lessons in junior high home economics class. My mother was certainly willing to teach me from that point forward, but I just knew I wasn't cut out for sewing (pardon the pun). But it amazes me that I do still remember those few basics learned from my home economics teacher. From that, my question for you concerns what my teacher called "pulling a thread". That involved pulling a thread out of the length or width of the fabric, depending on the direction you were cutting, so that you would have that narrow open path to follow in order to cut a perfectly straight edge. Is that still a common practice in sewing? Thank you.
Forgot to add, ur lovely dogs r wearing some knitwears....cute as ever, happy as a lark ...truly a blessing! Enjoy ur video , brilliant!
I can never get enough of project bag tutorials.
They are the best.
I love when you are both folding in the centimeter of fabric. I had to laugh Arne taking over Carlos’ job !You can tell you have been together a long long time. Very sweet 💜🌿💚
😂
Of course we need rolls of all your fabrics. They are so beautiful!
💖🙋🇸🇪
Lined curtains and table cloths to go with the placemats. A pretty dress or skirt for those of us who wish to dress modestly but doesn't break the pocket book. Pillows for all areas of the house. The possibilities are endless. Can hardly wait to see your fabric line.
This is a great idea to make the placemats out of the fat quarters, because you save a lot of fabric and it’s expensive. Thank you so much I learned a lot today.
You all are hilarious! When Carlos said he was "unemployed again," Arne rolled his eyes so hard he almost fell over!
Ha ha ha
I so enjoy watching you two sewing. Learning the metric measurements here in the USA for us older girls is hard. Lots of things here are using metric measurements. Hopefully as we keep trying we will get. North Carolina USA
Arne and Carlos, I love watching you. Your fabric line is very beautiful. I wish you were my neighbors.

Tote bags would be a good project. Bags to take shopping to avoid using plastic. Sewing knee cushions for gardening and cushions for outdoor furniture. Pretty pillowcases made with your lovely fabric.
Thank you Frances.
Shirts, dresses, needle cases, and project bags! Why limit to just one? All would be such fun! Woo Hoo!!!
Lets make them all!
I prefer metric when I sew, and I have several metric Olfa rulers. Your fabric is beautiful, and you guys are a great team, Ironman and The Ripper. Thank you for the entertaining demonstration!

Hi lovelies , greetings from Ireland . I would love to see tutorials for project bags , circular needle holders , aprons, table runners , placemat for hot pots placed on table . Oven gloves , pillow cases ... etc :0) Loved your video as always . Those corners were 😍

Thank you so much for watching!
Do napkins, needle cases..... all of it please. Love watching you.
Good suggestions!
I love that fabric. I wish my local quilt shop would carry it.
Yes, we hope they will be readily available all over soon.
Yes, there seems to be quite a demand for project bags.
Very beautiful fabrics, I wish they sold it in Canada. Thanks for sharing always enjoyable. Idea pillowcases, cushions and tablecloths
Great suggestions.

The fabric you designed is beautiful, I love all of the designs and colour ways. Also, could I move into your home please 😁🌹
Aprons from your fabric 🤗👍

The lighting on this video is excellent! Thanks for the tutorial.
You are welcome!
Love your method of making a placemat. I'm doing it for my next project.
Hi Guys,
The fabrics are so pretty. I was taught by my sister to wash, dry and iron cotton
fabric to preshrink the fabric before cutting and sewing. I will be trying that cool
corner thing for sure.

Thank you Sandie and do try it!
Love the big flowers on dark redish background. Seems like mask are all Im making these days for the protesters here in Denver
Keep up the good work Gail, it is important.

Hi Arne and Carlos. Thank you for continuing to upload great videos. Wishing Carlos a speedy recovery. Miss you live! XO Jan
Thank you Jan.
Beautiful fabric. One idea: make the placemats reversible, with your beautiful fabric on both sides, maybe different pattern or colour. Cheers, 🇨🇦
Thank you!
Project bag tutorials both drawstring and zipper. Notion pouches, etc. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you!
"If you know how to cheat, you know how to sew." Love this. Does it also apply to knitting? Because I cheat at that a little bit, too. Lovely video guys!
It is called a shortcut! I sew, knit and crochet.
Everything is allowed, it is your project.

I love your fabric in all the colors!
Thank you Dannie!
I would love to see a video on making a large tote bag with pockets. I am a quilter and not sure how to approach a 3 dimensional project.
Thank you!
I love the fabric, beautiful.

Great video. Any more sewing projects would be fun. Perhaps pillow covers x
Thank you Sian.
Yes thanks for the placemat tutorial. A knitting case would be grand🤗

Apron would be a good project.

Love your fun tutorials! How about some nice fabric baskets? Contrasting fabric trim? Could be different shapes or nesting.
That could be nice.
Lovely tutorial and your fabric designs are beautiful. I have a tip for you should you make another dozen placemats. Hi Ingrid, good suggestions.

I would love to see some project bags. If you could include a simple bag for us beginning sewers, that would be awesome. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this nice memory.

Glad you enjoyed it !
Great sewing episode! Would love to see knitting project bags and needle cozies! Your fabric is beautiful 🌸
Thank you Lana.
I ❤️ love this! Thank you! I’m going to try this corner on a quilt top. Hope you are having a peaceful summer at home.

Arne and Carlos you have inspired me so much, I’m learning to knit (I’m a crocheter) and to sew again! Thank you! Love your videos and hope you are enjoying your time off in that wonderful garden of yours. 😊💕
Thank you Laura!
I really want to learn how Arne makes a shirt using an old shirt as the pattern, please.
Me too
Maybe one day!
you take apart an old shirt and use the pieces as a pattern. add 5/8 for seam allowance and there you go!
Ah you are no fun AMcCoco! I want Arne and Carlos to entertain me, I mean, teach me!!!🤗
Hi! For a small project, maybe a nice holding bag for your knitting ball so you can knit on the go. The most ambitious thing would be a unisex button down shirt. This was also a really pretty video to watch, not sure if it was the lighting or the room but very nice. Hope you are continuing to feel better, enjoy your week !!
Good idea with the chopsticks.
Thank you.
