While I think it is amazing that this man has been offered an opportunity to potentially improve his quality of life, I find this equally terrifying.
I fear cases like this are a means of justifying the use of such technology.
Once we become comfortable with the idea and hear of stories of people’s lives improving, it will then be sold to individuals without any disabilities.
Like for example, “downloading” fluency in any language rather than having to learn it. No longer needing to look anything up, but having instant access to information.
What’s scary is who is controlling this information? What about the tracking of thoughts and the data - where is it sent to? What is done with this ? Not to mention consequences of radiation on brain or organs. We have been being gradually prepped for trans humanism - first adapting to relying on phones, then wearing devices (air pods, Apple Watch, smart glasses etc) now the next evolution will be insertion. I fear this will only continue to disconnect us further from nature, and that our species as we currently know is officially endangered. a new human computer hybrid has been born…
