How to make a ballet bun. I've seen these buns called sock buns, doughnut buns, and bun molds. This hairstyle is great for ballet, dance recitals, figure skating, ballerinas and competitions. Very elegant and sophisticated, but also quick and easy!
I've seen many different methods for making these types of buns, but I wanted to show the technique that works best for us.
The "bun foundation" and "hair net" used in this hairstyle was purchased from Sally's Beauty Supply.

My twin girls are getting ready for their first ballet recital and I have been freaking out over their hair. This video is a lifesaver and I will be using this tutorial while making their bun on recital night!

I've never felt compelled to comment on anything before but I wanted to let you know how grateful I am for this video. This was clear and so easy to do--easy enough for someone like me who has never put hair in an actual bun before and who was frantic right before dress rehearsal for a ballet recital. Thank you!

I do Scottish dance (not Irish) and for the past two competition seasons we (my sister does my bun) have been struggling to use the bun maker. We finally ran across your video and she can do a perfect bun on me! Thank you sooooo much! you're my life saver because hair is counted in the points! Truly, you're the best youtuber!

This is the best doughnut bun tutorial I've seen so far. I never thought about using a hair net but it makes sense. It would make it so much easier when doing this style on yourself.

I kept this video in mind while I put my daughters hair in a bun. She started ballet and has very thin hair that is not easy to work with. I bought the bun mold and bobby pins but I did forget the hairnet. I'll have to remember to get those next. It came out well but it fell apart halfway through her dance class. I think I need to pin in better next time and use some more hairspray. Very easy to follow video though, thanks for sharing. :)

I'm warning everyone watching this that you shouldn't use Bobby pins because sometimes they can fall on to the ice and other skaters could trip on them. I wouldn't recommend bobby pins for skaters, but hair clips with the little grips on them make a fine replacement.

I'm an ice skater and I never knew of those things. I had to stick with the plain ponytail bun, I call it the loop bun because the hair is pulled halfway through the ponytail holder. Thanks so much for this, I'll now have variety when I skate!! :)

I just started ballet and it’s mandatory to wear a bun each class. Since I’m not good with hair, making buns have been a confusing battle for me but after watching this video, things started to make sense a bit more to me so imma try this next time! Thx :3
