What was nice about the Lone Ranger series was as a young child it taught me right from wrong and good manners. The Lone Ranger and ton to were always respectful to each other they treat one another as equal partners at all times.

My father went to high school with Clayton Moore and they occasionally wrote to each other - I was a HUGE FAN! When he went through his 'battle of the mask', I wrote a letter of support to him and had every 'kid' I knew sign it to show we were in his 'posse' if he needed us. He wrote back and thanked us all. What of an example of a true gentleman and hero for young people.
I remember as a small kid watching the Lone Ranger, I was mesmerized with it. I was “serious” at that age! Lol Even today I catch a show and enjoy it very much. The Lone Ranger was a great and clean show!
I actually spoke with Clayton Moore briefly on the phone in early 1987. I was working for a garage door company in Chatsworth, CA. I answered the phone and his first words were "This is Clayton Moore, calling from the home of the Lone Ranger". He seemingly was very proud (and rightfully so) of his role as the Lone Ranger." As a fan of the show since childhood, I was very excited to have spoken with the man himself.
I believe that the opening sequence to the show was filmed in Chatsworth where the famous Lone Ranger rock is located. Clayton was by far the best Lone Ranger on tv or the cinema.
I'm glad that he was proud of his character. You find that so many stars that gives you happy memories as a child seems to dislike the character that they are famous for.

Clayton Moore was a very nice man. He lived in my neighborhood in Golden Valley, MN for a brief time when I was in second grade. His daughter was in my class. I remember on Halloween he had a bubbling cauldron set up in his driveway and he was dressed as a wizard. I remember him being very patient with my questions about Silver. I was a horse-crazy kid and although I'm no longer a kid, I haven't outgrown the horse-craziness. He handed out autographed pics to anyone that was interested. He didn't stay in MN very long. I think it was only about a year of so. He and his family moved back to CA when he was offered the Jeno's Pizza Rolls commercials. It was definitely MN's loss when he left.
Clayton Moore was the Lone Ranger. No actor was able to portray the Lone Ranger like he could. A great horseman a great voice As a kid I watched him in awe. He portrayed good wholesome values They failed miserably at trying to replace him. Even when he got old he still had the moves and the attitude. The younger actors who tried to replace him were by comparison very disappointing. They failed. He had star quality he was very sincere and tried to live up to the character he represented. I loved to see him ride his horse at full speed to the William Tell Overature firing his gun going up that hill and rearing the horse up and at other time take a running jump mounting it. One of the best role models one could have.
Agreed. He was before my time. But looking back at his movies from 56-58 he is the clear choice as being the best lone ranger. He reminds me of George Reeves.
He wasn't acting, that was who he was. A kind thoughtful gentleman, with scruples. I'm in Australia and watch the Lone Ranger through TH-cam. I enjoyed watching when I was a child and still enjoying his shows today.

The Lone Ranger was one of my boyhood heroes. I can always remember the thrill of sitting down in front of the tv to the grand musical opening of the show - the William Tell Overture. Wow! My uncle Kingsley even bought me a matched set of toy silver pearl-handled Lone Ranger pistols for my birthday. Ironically, years later, I got married and lived in Glendale near Chevy Chase Dr, not far from Forest Lawn. My dear wife Jean was laid to rest just up the hill from Clayton Moore's grave.
I met Mr. Moore 3 times in my life, all of them at science fiction conventions. The last time being in the San Francisco Bay Area when all the mask controversy came about. But it is my humble opinion that Clayton Moore WAS The Lone Ranger. It was much more than just acting and there is no doubt in my mind. Now that I am in the place where he went to gunnery school in World War II, I think I can understand him a little bit more and why I will always consider him to be a Samurai of The Old West. Someone who always fought fairly and with honour. Even as The Lone Ranger, he never killed anyone in cold blood but would do his best to capture them alive and turn them over to the agents of the law. It was a great honour to have met him and gotten his autograph on one of his movie lobby cards. My own time is growing short, so I hope to meet with him again on the other side where the Western stars of before will always shine their brightest.

I visited Brantford, Ontario, Canada where Jay Silverheels and Wayne Gretsky was from! From a museum inside the hockey rink that Wayne grew up playing in, they also had Mementos of Jay. It was there that I found out that Jay's father was a Mohawk Chief and that he was born with the name Harry Smith and later in life legally changed it to Jay Silverheels :)

Thanks for posting. Myself and two other friends met him in Toronto, Canada at a department store called Eatons’ of Canada in downtown Toronto.in 1957. I still remember it. It was about 4.00 in the afternoon and there were no crowds and he said “Hi fellas, nice to meet you.” He was wearing the black mask and a white Stetson hat and shook our hands.
I remember the lone ranger, brings happy memories. Some of these cemeteries are lovely and peaceful. I noticed some of the graves are so simple, tyvm for this. I liked Sliver.

Born in 1960 I watched the lone Ranger as re-runs on channel 4 . Growing up in Tipton County Indiana we only received a few stations. Glad he was on one of tbem.

1 of my favorite shows along with the Rifle man and The Untouchables. Lone Ranger loosely based on Bass Reeves a Texas Ranger. Nobody could play The Lone Ranger on screen like Clayton Moore.
I was a fan of the Lone Ranger. But most of all Errol Flynn was my favorite matinee idol. I fell under his spell after seeing The Charge of The Light Brigade. Loved all his following movies. He had more than his share of misadventures.
So cool you can go to his grave site. Too bad he doesn't have a better marker. The lone ranger was before my time as I was born in the 70s. but looking back it's obvious that moore is the true lone ranger. When I first saw him he reminded me of George Reeves. I really don't understand why Hollywood is not able to put out a good movie of The lone ranger in the modern era. He is a strong character and there are still stories that can be told.
Wow, I didn't know Clayton Moore died on my birthday. I turned 18 that year. I got into watching the Lone Ranger in recent years, so I'm happy his legacy still lives on. I've developed quite an admiration for the Lone Ranger character, and everything he represents.

I watch the Lone Ranger almost every day. I know most shows by heart but they are always great to watch again & again. I watch them on Direct TV channels 323 & 367 and record them if I'm not home.

Mr Moore was also a Circus Acrobat in his young days. A very athletic person. Both he and Mr Silverheels quit smoking Cigarettes because of The Lone Ranger. They did not believe the Lone Ranger and Tonto would smoke. Their concern was for the Youth of America to not be influenced by them into such an unhealthy habit. Both were extraordinary Gentlemen and the World is a better place because they were here.
I was watching a game show some years ago, and one of the questions on the show was.... What did "kemosabe" mean. The answer on the game show was that it meant nothing and was a made-up word for the Lone Ranger show. Years later we now have the internet and I looked it up and found that answer to be incorrect. It is actually a word and does have a translation to english. There’s been a bit of debate over the years as to what, if anything, “kemosabe” means, not to mention what language it is in the first place. According to the New York Public Library Book of Answers (Prentice Hall, 1990), what Tonto meant by “kemosabe” was “faithful friend.” I don’t know exactly where the NYPL got their information, but it always struck me that it was Tonto himself, not the Lone Ranger, who was the “faithful friend,” having to save the Ranger’s bacon nearly every week. Maybe if the Lone Ranger hadn’t been wearing that silly mask he wouldn’t have gotten himself into so many jams, eh? Seems to me that Tonto’s job description usually boiled down to “untying knots.” The NYPL also notes that “kemosabe” is an actual word in two Native American languages. Appears that we had similar childhoods. I visited Autry's grave but haven't uploaded it yet. I had plans to visit Roy and Dale's grave, but the day I was going turned into a summer storm, so the trip got postponed. Hmm, I don't remember the Jeep. Now you have me really curious. My Favourite hero ever the Lone Ranger TV series was the very first western show I saw growing in the 60s to 70s alongside Batman and Robin and the Lone Ranger incredible story of two friends who roded for justice in the old west a man in a mask with his face hidden the mask of justice on the side fair play and a horse called Silver and his companion and friend a native American who saved his life and gave him a second chance they roded together and made TV history. I've grew up watching lone range...during that time TV only had 6 channel black and white .and its was a beautiful movie. Now TV has over 400 channels but its never like those day.

Clayton Moore’s should say that he was the Lone Ranger. Or, is! He hasn’t been gone all that long and his stone looks all worn. I’m in my 60s. Moore is the Lone Ranger.
Really glad you have covered the Lone Ranger, Steve - while somewhat too young to have seen the series in first-run, I always made a point to catch it in repeats when I discovered it. Hard to chose a favorite between the Ranger, and Ton To, both were great, I always thought. I seem to recall tha Jay Silverheels was a WW2 veteran as well. An interesting aside for fans is that the later hero, the Green Hornet (Britt Reid) is a descendant of the Ranger, a neat tying-in of the two characters.
Absolutely astounded that there was not even a hint of “The Lone Ranger” anywhere on that headstone, considering how intertwined the two were in real life! ☹
My Grandmother took me to the Jonson Haygood Stadium in Charleston SC to see Clayton Moore when I was about 7. He had broken his leg during filming and came out riding on a pink convertible Catilllac. They gave all the kids a silver bullet. Plastic of course.
Wonderful video!! I used to watch the re-runs back in 1961. I was pretty ticked off he had to wear sunglasses that looked like the mask he used to wear back in 1979 when they had "The Line Ranger" movie. That bombed anyways. Fun Fact...Tonto's horse's name was Scout.
Yes, I grew up with The Lone Ranger and my favorites were the Lone Ranger AND Silver. I wasn't born when it first aired on TV. We didn't get a television until I was 4 or 5. I don't recall exactly when. I guess it wasn't that memorable an event. Ha.

Thanks for posting. Myself and two other friends met him in Toronto, Canada at a department store called Eatons’ of Canada in downtown Toronto.in 1957. I still remember it. It was about 4.00 in the afternoon and there were no crowds and he said “Hi fellas, nice to meet you.” He was wearing the black mask and a white Stetson hat and shook our hands.

Born in 1960 I watched the lone Ranger as re-runs on channel 4 . Growing up in Tipton County Indiana we only received a few stations. Glad he was on one of tbem.

1 of my favorite shows along with the Rifle man and The Untouchables. Lone Ranger loosely based on Bass Reeves a Texas Ranger. Nobody could play The Lone Ranger on screen like Clayton Moore.
I watched every episode of the Lone Ranger. I loved Clayton Moore, and delighted in him shooting the gun from a villain's hand.
I was a fan of the Lone Ranger. But most of all Errol Flynn was my favorite matinee idol. I fell under his spell after seeing The Charge of The Light Brigade. Loved all his following movies. He had more than his share of misadventures.

The lone ranger was before my time as I was born in the 70s. but looking back it's obvious that moore is the true lone ranger.
When I first saw him he reminded me of George Reeves.
I really don't understand why Hollywood is not able to put out a good movie of The lone ranger in the modern era. He is a strong character and there are still stories that can be told.

Wow, I didn't know Clayton Moore died on my birthday. I turned 18 that year. I got into watching the Lone Ranger in recent years, so I'm happy his legacy still lives on. I've developed quite an admiration for the Lone Ranger character, and everything he represents.

I watch the Lone Ranger almost every day. I know most shows by heart but they are always great to watch again & again. I watch them on Direct TV channels 323 & 367 and record them if I'm not home.

I watched the show as a kid I am 52 years old and still watch The old shows. We have a staton MeTV here in Chicago that plays classic shows.
Mr Moore was also a Circus Acrobat in his young days. A very athletic person. Both he and Mr Silverheels quit smoking Cigarettes because of The Lone Ranger. They did not believe the Lone Ranger and Tonto would smoke. Their concern was for the Youth of America to not be influenced by them into such an unhealthy habit. Both were extraordinary Gentlemen and the World is a better place because they were here.

I was watching a game show some years ago, and one of the questions on the show was.... What did "kemosabe" mean. The answer on the game show was that it meant nothing and was a made-up word for the Lone Ranger show.
Years later we now have the internet and I looked it up and found that answer to be incorrect. It is actually a word and does have a translation to english.
There’s been a bit of debate over the years as to what, if anything, “kemosabe” means, not to mention what language it is in the first place. According to the New York Public Library Book of Answers (Prentice Hall, 1990), what Tonto meant by “kemosabe” was “faithful friend.” I don’t know exactly where the NYPL got their information, but it always struck me that it was Tonto himself, not the Lone Ranger, who was the “faithful friend,” having to save the Ranger’s bacon nearly every week. Maybe if the Lone Ranger hadn’t been wearing that silly mask he wouldn’t have gotten himself into so many jams, eh? Seems to me that Tonto’s job description usually boiled down to “untying knots.”
The NYPL also notes that “kemosabe” is an actual word in two Native American languages. In Apache, it means “white shirt.” Who knows - maybe Tonto also had to do the Ranger’s laundry and was actually constantly reminding him to avoid grass stains. In Navajo, on the other hand, “kemosabe” translates as “soggy shrub.” If this seems an odd thing for faithful friend Tonto to call the Lone Ranger, perhaps he was just repaying the Ranger’s long-standing insult. “Tonto,” after all, is a Spanish word meaning “stupid.”

Thanks to your great videos I have taken another wonderful trip down memory lane. Saturday mornings as a child were spent watching cowboy shows on the TV. Roy Rogers, The Lone Ranger, Gene Autry, and all the adventures they made so real. Do you remember the name of the Jeep in the Roy Rogers episodes?
Appears that we had similar childhoods. I visited Autry's grave but haven't uploaded it yet. I had plans to visit Roy and Dale's grave, but the day I was going turned into a summer storm, so the trip got postponed. Hmm, I don't remember the Jeep. Now you have me really curious. I Googled it but nothing came up.

My Favourite hero ever the Lone Ranger TV series was the very first western show I saw growing in the 60s to 70s alongside Batman and Robin and the Lone Ranger incredible story of two friends who roded for justice in the old west a man in a mask with his face hidden the mask of justice on the side fair play and a horse called Silver and his companion and friend a native American who saved his life and gave him a second chance they roded together and made TV history. I've grew up watching lone range...during that time TV only had 6 channel black and white .and its was a beautiful movie. Now TV has over 400 channels but its never like those day.

Clayton Moore’s should say that he was the Lone Ranger. Or, is! He hasn’t been gone all that long and his stone looks all worn. I’m in my 60s. Moore is the Lone Ranger.

Really glad you have covered the Lone Ranger, Steve - while somewhat too young to have seen the series in first-run, I always made a point to catch it in repeats when I discovered it.
Hard to chose a favorite between the Ranger, and Ton To, both were great, I always thought.
I seem to recall tha Jay Silverheels was a WW2 veteran as well. An interesting aside for fans is that the later hero, the Green Hornet (Britt Reid) is a descendant of the Ranger, a neat tying-in of the two characters.

My Grandmother took me to the Jonson Haygood Stadium in Charleston SC to see Clayton Moore when I was about 7. He had broken his leg during filming and came out riding on a pink convertible Catilllac. They gave all the kids a silver bullet. Plastic of course.

Wonderful video!! I used to watch the re-runs back in 1961. I was pretty ticked off he had to wear sunglasses that looked like the mask he used to wear back in 1979 when they had "The Line Ranger" movie. That bombed anyways. Fun Fact...Tonto's horse's name was Scout.
Yes, I grew up with The Lone Ranger and my favorites were the Lone Ranger AND Silver. I wasn't born when it first aired on TV. We didn't get a television until I was 4 or 5. I don't recall exactly when. I guess it wasn't that memorable an event. Ha.
