    Hi Scott, I would love to know how the "stickers" work - as that is nothing like a regular sticker most people would come across. I think this would make a fascinating video and you're the only channel on youtube likely to talk about it.

    Can you explain what you mean by "sticker"?

    • @outpost206
      @outpost206 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My guess is that the term refers to something that was tampographed/tampo printed in the factory. If I recall, it's how most Lego Minifigures get their faces/other graphics

      I think it’s what used to be called “pad printing” back in the day….

    So that's why figures cost $14 and change.

    How to paint figures to the max? I might start painting my figures after watching this video.

    When i hear "sticker" i replace it with "print" naturally. But a print is a sticker process essentially.

    Do the face stickers peel?

    • @foldabotZ
      @foldabotZ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, what Scott means is a "tampographed image." It's printed on, not hand painted.

      @@foldabotZ thanks, man! I knew about tampo’d faces, just not stickers. And hey, we’ve all messed up our words at times. This one time, I mixed up dispensationalism and covenantalism in a lecture and confused three nerds!

    So just how cheap WERE Mattel’s Battlestar Galactica figures to make?
    I gladly would have traded the cape for a molded jacket and a face.

    This one was very helpful. It’s a sad fact of capitalism that the consumer won’t benefit from the cost reducing measures, but helpful to see how much we’ve lost in terms of some of the detail and quality of our play things.

    • @yauyuso
      @yauyuso ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you misunderstood the video. It's about why sometimes you get toys that aren't fully painted there is no loss for customers. You benefit by having the toy available for purchase. It's a business.

    • @SwimKam
      @SwimKam ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yauyusoI agree with you that the consumer receives the product. Much like what Nestle has done recently, reducing the size of their Halloween-sized candy, the consumer receives the product, just not the savings from that cost reduction measure which is solely for the benefit of Nestle.

    • @yauyuso

      @@SwimKam I just have yet to see a company that's not in for the profit. It's against the nature of business.
      "Oh I've made enough money, I don't need to profit anymore". Actually, TOdd Mcfarlane maybe one of those exceptions.
      He pointed out his comic books are still $2.99 when a lot of the other publishers are $3.99. His thinks that way, it encourages more title sales

    Some of the old 3.75" G.I. Joe figures had a lot of deco. Tiger Force, Ally Viper v1, just about any figure with an actual camo pattern.

      Hasbro own GI Joe so they don’t have to pay a licensing fee, lowering the cost, keeping profit. Scott did a wonderful video about perceived value using GI Joe. check it out

    • @BatFan1
      @BatFan1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toys were A LOT cheaper to make back then. I dont pretend to know where exactly GI Joes were made back then, (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mexico, etc) but outsourcing labor for american companies back in the 80s was way more cheaper than it is now so you saw more "love" put into the product. That's why companies like Hasbro keep hopping locations to find the cheapest labor to make the toys.

    Is TG really padding the run time of this video by counting dots? What is this, Sesame Street? Was this video brought to us by the number 92?

    So since so much money is spent on deco, why do companies like Hasbro put up with such crappy work on so many of their figures? If I was bending my budget so far to get a visor on my Power Ranger, I would be PO'd if it came back wonked but they don't seem to give a hoot.

    I'm kind of curious why you keep refering decals and face prints as "Stickers" because that's not stickers rather prints.

    • @foldabotZ

      What Scott means is a "Tampograph," an image that's printed on a non-flat, 3D surface.
